Lucas was interviewed in the UK press over the weekend. He said he doesnt have time to read what 10,000 people think of his movies. I got the impression he couldnt care less - and who can blame him?
I got the impression that he`s an integral part of the plot. Perhaps Lucas personally really likes the character, and doesnt realize he`s so despised. Or perhaps he really doesnt care.
He also said he sees the DVD as what he really wanted to do in the first place, before it was cut/changed for the distributors, and that DVDs will be seen as the definitive `directors cut` versions, and the cinema/tv versions as merely commercials for them.
