From your schedule, since you need sleep, you will have to fit exercise in your work schedule.
Basically, you need one 20 minute break, and another 2 breaks of 10 minutes each.
Can you extract that much time out of your job?
    If yes, do this
first 10 minutes break, do 3-4 minutes brisk walk followed by mild jog.
Later after an hour or so do 5 minutes of fast walk, light jog. and then run properly for 10 minutes and then spend 5 minutes to cool down.
with 2 minutes for stretching. You should be able to do 2 miles in this time.
Your last 10 minutes should be stretching and some stuff like situps and pushups.

Getting away from your desk for these ultra short breaks will refresh you.

When you get home, just try to sqeeze out 15 minutes, and jog in those 15 minutes.

However if you booked an auditorium, hooked your phone to the mic and let it ring, it would be public performance.

I work in the EDA field now, and first 4 years of my career were spent in Design Verification.

Based on what I see, VHDL is mostly on its way out. Most new innovations in design tools center around verilog. Due it its being more "free" as opposed to the super strict VHDL, its gaining popularity in the last bastions of VHDL, the european universities.
Nowadays all big design companies use Verilog almost exclusively, with only legacy blocks in VHDL.

So Verilog is the way to go, and also easier to learn. However beware, if you come from a software background, you will have difficulty adjusting to the "time" concept of logic programming languages. So brush up the design basics first, how to blocking/non-blocking statements work, and how does an "event" driven language work.

I have a mio GPS, and the charger is a standard USB port. This means every time I connect it to my comp, it gets charged. any time I can't find a charger, all I need is a USB cable.

The downside is that companies cannot charge 50$ for a charger that costs 1$ to make. I know you can order chargers from dealextreme etc., for 5$ a piece, but frankly speaking a large percentage of the users won't go that route. Besides that there is also an issue of "warranty FUD".

So if it takes a legislation to do it, well so be it. However I sincerely hope that they do not come out with some new standard called Universal cell phone port.
USB is cheap, easily available, and almost everybody has a USB cable lying somewhere!

  23. People forget economics on Less Is Moore · · Score: 1

I work in the VLSI field. Over the years I have seen chips from 60nm to 45nm and down to 22nm in the current state.
    Why did tech shrink?
Because you could do the same function for lesser silicon, i.e. lesser cost.
From 60nm-45nm etc., the reductions were substantial.
But around 22nm, if tech is reduced(technology is there), the cost benefit is zilch.
So you may have a chip 10% smaller, doing the same thing, but it will consume almost same power and cost more.
So moore's law will actually be broken by 2010,unless something really out of the box is invented.
As of the current state of affairs, the focus in on 2 things.
    1. Optimization of architechture
    2. Reduction of power.
The shrinking phenomena is a thing of the past.
The newer chips will be slightly faster but consume less power and will cost less, thats all, no more hyper speed jumps for now. The party was good while it lasted, now with the current economic state, R&D funding is not what it used to be, so innovation will also suffer for some time
