  1. Big screen for me please on Don't Super-Size My Smartphone! · · Score: 1

I do want a bigger phone. I currently use an iPhone 4 and would love to have a 4.3 (or whatever the new defacto larger standard is) inch screen, but then again, I'm a big guy 6'4" so all things being relative, the iPhone is currently damn near tiny as far as I'm concerned.

  2. I couldn't agree with TFA more.... on Gaming Usability 101 · · Score: 5, Insightful

It's getting pretty bad these days. I can't stand not being able to bypass the logos at startup, never mind long ass cut scenes. Does it occur to the designers that maybe someone might play the game a second time and has no need of seeing the cut scene again?!? My favorite example of designers with their head up their ass is Keiji Inafune. When Dead Rising came out and people started complaing about the save system (one one save allowed). Supposedly, in an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly, he said that the saves were intentionally designed so that players would feel that there were some consequences for their actions and would be forced to make quick, tactical decisions. Right, don't bother trying to make the actual GAME more interesting. Cripple the save function so the game appears more dynamic..... I really hope if they do a DR2 he has nothing to do with the project.

I can't agree with you more. I'm a former dedicated gamer and I dying to play some games with the wiimote. Screw the other boxes, they get a big yawn from me. I do concede though that since the wiimote is unproven it could totally suck and if that's the case, so be it.

We could certainly take a long hard look at copyright law in this country. It's become clear to me that the public domain is, for all intents and purposes, closed. Everytime Mickey gets close to falling into PD congress will suddenly find it in their interest to extend copyright.

I bought a PS2 predicated on the fact it could play DVDs but in my experience it played DVDs like ass. If you were going to sit and watch a movie straight through it worked fine but if you needed to fastforward?! Get ready for some tired fingers. ONE FF SPEED! ONE!!!!! WTF! I'm not buying into Sonys BS again. I don't care if the PS3 can make me an effing dinner I'm not buying.

  12. MPG myths. on Ask The Mythbusters · · Score: 0

Why is it when you guys do the MPG myths you use such inexact methods? A gas tank is a very inexact amount. The only way to know if they were equal would be to have them totally empty but without looking inside or tipping it out how can you know that they were empty? Why not cut into the gas line then use external gas cans? That way you will know exactly what you started with.

  15. Is your ISP Comcast? on How Much Broadband Usage is Too Much? · · Score: 0

I recently moved and when I did I switched to Comcast Cable from Verizon DSL. My DSL experience had been excellent. The bandwidth I had paid for I recieved at all times. I never had an outage that was Verizon's fault (several router/modem lockups, no biggie) over 2 years. So Imagine my suprise when I tried to use the 256Kb upload that I am paying for from comcast and I could only get 20-30Kb. No matter what I did, modem/router resets, TCP/IP configs, port forwarding/DMZ, I couldn't get a faster upload. And when I say 20-30Kb that was the fastest it would ever go, as an average I would say I would get 15 outbound. So I called up Speakeasy.net and switched back to DSL. No problems since.

  20. Question for Felton on Ask Ed Felten About Watermarking Analysis And More · · Score: 1

Since it is true that anti-piracy schemes do nothing more than incovience the end user why do you think the producers of music keep trying to invent and implement them? The real pirates laugh at the attempt to protect the music and it seems to me that a fairer pricing scheme would cut significantly into pirating efforts. I.E. If CDs cost 5 bucks it would be worth it to buy those disks that only had the one song that I wanted.

    (Rhetoric for illistrative purposes)

Why does a CD still cost 15+ dollars but a tape (whose manufacturing costs are higher) costs 11?
What does that 15 dollars actually pay for?
Why is intellectual property considered worth more than tangible items (by weight how many CDs = a refigerator)?

  21. Get a NEX II on Where are the non-SDMI MP3 Players? · · Score: 1

I've been using a NEX II for over a year now. It doesn't use SDMI. It can use CF I or II type cards which means it can use a IBM microdrive. I use a 192MB CF I card. I like my music to sound good so I rip my tracks at 192kbps which gives me about 3 hours of play time, plenty for my purposes. One of these days I'll get a 1 gig microdrive so I can have the 10 hours or whatever it works out too.
