I love his projects--they're not big budget or based on any reality but, rather, they mock reality. Except for Bevis and Butthead--those guys were in my high school home room.
I am amazed by the number of people that actually participate in second life. If you're silly enough to fork over real money for "Lindens," you deserve to be parted with them in SL.
What about air? I mean, terrorists are breathing it, right? Maybe we should regulate it? What about water? Oh, man...those terrorists have infiltrated EVERYTHING!
Don't click the link to Dvorak's log--that is unless you WANT to make him more money for mouthing off. He gets paid to write flamebait to increase traffic the site.
I can't help but wonder if MS was in the wings singing the praises of the WM DRM....
It's too bad the big media companies just don't f**king get the truth/reality of digital media: folks who are willing to pay will pay as long as it isn't overly restrictive and easy to use. The people that steal/share "illegal" copies are not going to pay no matter what. You might as well sell your product to the people that are willing to pay for it.
I think it's dangerous to think in absolutes--for atheists and believers alike. We humans are far too limited in our understanding of the universe and/or God to be certain of anything. That doesn't mean you can't have faith in whatever--it just means you shouldn't poo-poo everyone else who thinks differently.
If you think about it, a thinking creationist might argue that this supports creation more than evolution--a genetic "Adam and Eve," if you will. Maybe the Judeo-Christian creation story is not so literal--if you leave room for the possibility of "something "creating the universe as we know it. Maybe it's chance that we evolved? Perhaps the truth is somewhere between?
Science is nothing more than the process of discovering what's already there--and we have a long way to go before we can declare anything is 100% certain.
I'm not taking sides--I just think it's interesting to an open-minded spectator.
Yes, those terms are stupid and annoying--but fanboy/fanboi is much easier and shorter to type than "myopic automatous sycophantic rabid weasel."
Good luck in your endeavor to stamp out those unfortunate strings from the Slashdot lexicon. I'll try to use them sparingly--unless I really mean "myopic automatous sycophantic rabid weasel."
-A guy anonymously says he found an exploitable hole in mDNSResponder (isn't this open source?) under MacOS X. -He says he's still working on it and refuses to disclose himself or his findings -A few idiot trolls post about busting a cap in his head or some such and now he's in hiding.
Jeez. You'd think he posted a pro-Microsoft or anti-Linux article on Slashdot or something.
I think it would be funny if he had the exloit on his website and all the Apple fanbois who posted from Safari were infected. I think he would have the last laugh.
On one site where the pirated copy was removed, the JK Rowling left this note:
"Shame on you! You can't bloody wait for the legitimate book? Don't you know that reading illegal copies of books will make you go blind? I hope your legs grow together, you little bugger."
I'm not trying to bash Microsoft, but they don't exactly have the best reputation in the realm of security.
I would be VERY hesitant to use a MS service that allows access to "all of my content" using a nebulous array of servers. I certainly wouldn't want to be an early adopter of this technology until they can prove a secure track record--especially given the problems with their current product lines.
Even if a miraculous thing happens and the "Live Core" thing ends up being pretty secure, my biggest problem with this technology is its reliance on networking. If a second miracle happens and the quality, quantity, and ubiquity of broadband networking over the air and standard transmisson media gets to a point where it is reliable and affordable then we might be looking at a viable useable service.
As it stands today, MS's security holes and the limited reliability/availablity of current broadband services keep Steve's Live Core dream in the lab.
If they can get them smarty-pants scientists to figure out how to make emo bullets, all of the enemy combatants will come out all depressed and demoralized.
Google is a large corporation trying to make lots of money on adverstising and promoting their clients--other corporations and businesses. This is business--big business. If you think these guys are sitting around like a bunch of disenchanted college sophomore lefties discussing ways to fight the establishment and spread egalitarianism throughout the known universe, you're wrong.
Google ain't the Peace Corps. They are trying to make a big, fat profit just like Exxon-Mobil.
All of those amenities at the Googleplex are there to help the Googlies feel better about how they're making their money--good, bad, or ugly.
It is quite possible that I do not remember or it was underreported. School bullying was never considered "youth crime" unless a weapon was involved. I remember things starting to get more violent my senior year in high school--it certainly seems to have escalated from those days.
However, the hyper-reactionary environment we live in now is palpably different. From the airport to the daycare center, we live in fear of the being the next victim. I just don't want to live my life like that. Is the threat real or imagined? Are our kids really in danger at school or did the "Eye-Witness News Team" bring us to fear that they just might be?
Seriously, man--either we aren't free anymore or the illusion that we ever were is gone.
First Buttofuoco, now Sodomsky? Who's next to be arrested for sexually deviant behavior involving minors? Maybe Fred Azmastah or Larry Kyocksmoksi?
If anyone with a suggestive names drops off a computer at my desk, I'm doing some snooping...

Yet another way to annoy your office mates and everyone at the movie theatre.
Reminds me of the "internet is full" cartoon from Dilbert.
Dammit, Steve Ballmer--quit trolling Slashdot!

"What part of 'sudden death' didn't you understand?"
The marketing geniuses who brought you this video live on in Redmond. Who else would design a brown media player and name it "Zune?"

The "slashkos" label is the funniest thing I've seen yet.
Isn't mDNSResponder and Open Source package ported for OS X?
n jour.html
http://developer.apple.com/opensource/internet/bo
Is Apple the developer of mDNSResponder or are they just using it?
All they need to do is buy a Dell XPS box...
(Mumbling in my grumpy old man voice while shuffling through my house with tissue boxes on my feet)
"f**king kids and their fancy blue LEDs...."

I'm glad that you seem amused by it. You're a gentleman and a scholar (or, at least, half that). :D
You mean misspelling, right?
(that was evil--sorry)

Let me see if I have this straight:
-A guy anonymously says he found an exploitable hole in mDNSResponder (isn't this open source?) under MacOS X.

Uh....I'd better check my box...

I'm more afraid of her than the MPAA/RIAA!
[this is a joke, btw]
Your trophy is that warm sensation everytime you pee, amigo.

I think we pre-program our kids to be this way.
