  1. Re:Forgive the obvious question... on Superbowl XXXVII · · Score: 5, Insightful

As a huge fan of soccer, i can understand why the majority of americans don't grasp it as a spectacular sport. In 90 minutes it is possible to not have a team score a single point and still be one of the best games in history. If this is the case there are no clear winners and this is not acceptable in america. You must WIN and you must SCORE in america. It is reflected in society.

This is why formula 1 is even less prominent in the US. When something as small as .009 put JP Montoya on pole once this season it isn't enough to discern a clear cut winner. When Schumacher won 11 of 17 races, and ferrari won 15 out of 17 it is seen as uncompetitive. There is so much going on behind the scenes and so many other battles then the one for the lead that it doesn't interest the US audience. In NASCAR or IRL you see 10 different leaders in one race and multiple passes. But this is through stiffling the abilityto one up competitors. Standard wings that allow cars to pass more easily and restricted power engines makes for closer, yet more predictable racing. Americans are raised with 100 topics aminute thrown pass their heads, they consume more than anyone else, and this is reflected in their choices later in life. Like someone said about watching 9 hours of football games and post/pre game shows or 9 hours of about LOTR. Football, F1, American Football, NASCAR et al cater to different audiences. Depends what your preference is.

"various democratic goverments", I think Iraq isn't considered what most people consider democratic. Yes supposedly 100% of people voted for Saddam, but if you believe that is true then you have some serious issues to consider. Or you are typing from the propaganda office in Baghdad. I don't think war is an answer to world issues, but remember what happened in the middle of the 1900s when America resisted entering other people's problems? While I don't believe Saddam has the power or population to blitzkrieg the middle east he probably is capable of killing a lot of people. Whether he would is left to conjecture or time to tell us. Saying any choice of action he would make would be a democratic decision is just being ignorant.

But this must be like the general mass production paradigm. Advance your technology to make a quiker cheaper product which enables to make MORE of the product. Artists and music pirates have long heralded the removal of the middleman from the music business. This paradigm shift will in effect allow the record companies to make more money and the artist the same amount. Until the artists have a method of promotion that does not require a record label they will always receive the short end of the stick. Maybe instead of $2million advances, a loan of $200,000 from a bank and some hardwork promoting your band as a day job, and playing at night for the band. Turn the band into your business and it might be successful. A few ands have taken that route and succeeded.

I then 'exec /etc/init.d/network restart'. Says everything starts up fine so I 'startx'.

Brilliant! Nothing has changed, I get into byzantineOS and i still have no network connection. Beats the hell out of me why, so can you help? How would i go about changing interface.lo to interface.eth0 i think that might be the problem. I checked in composer to make sure the files i changed were still change, and behold, they were.
