You are thinking way to small. We need to move Mars and Venus to the trailing Lagrange points in Earth's orbit. That will put them both in the water zone. Then, send a stream of comets from the Oort cloud to crash into Mars - just need to be careful not to miss. Venus just gets the good old fashioned algae/plants method of atmospheric reduction.

By the time we use up Earth, Mars will be ready for wholesale migration, and by the time Mars is used up, Venus will be done simmering. By that time we will be assembling new planets from scratch with asteroids, Mercury, Pluto, Sedna, and whatever other junk we can find.

Huh?!? You mean, when I quit my last job and took this one, that was somehow impermissible? Or that it wasn't my choice, but some other person's?

There have been plenty of examples through history of folks not having a choice of who they worked for - company towns, the Soviets, and slavery. And I also agree that some people have little choice in the TYPES of jobs they must take - if I'm only qualified to be an angineer, I can't expect to set up shop as a doctor, or if I'm a farm laborer I'm perhaps not qualified to finish drywall. But California and the US in the year 2007? Come on! the vast majority of workers can choose their employer, and those that can't tend to be in illegal situations - slavery or other coerced employment.

Of course, those choices have consequences. When I left my previous job, I walked away from $40k in a "golden handcuffs" stock plan. But I did it anyway. Was my power to choose illusory, and I'm really still working for that old company in some sort of diabolical Cartesian plot?

I agree that allowing employers to require RFID implants is a bad thing, but using the "Gov't must protect the poor helpless worker from the soulless capitalist exploiter" just makes you sound stupid.

He had woken up on a stretch of the PA turnpike which is quite monotonous, and could NOT be convinced that we were still heading in the right direction - adult logic did not avail him any insight. We spent another hour in the car with him sobbing, until I pulled into Mom's driveway - then he was his little chipper self again.

One of the key points is that the employee must come to you with their problem BEFORE you discipline them. They can't wait until they get a pink slip to say "But I'm and Alcoholic!".

I believe that was one of the sticking points with the liberals and the ADA - they didn't want to force people to come forward, for fear of the "scarlet letter". Of course, the conservatives didn't want it at all, so they compromised.

So if you are an employee with a problem, stay clean long enough to get the job and establish your performance well. Then go to your boss one day and say "BTW, I'm an alcoholic, and I need to leave early on Tuesdays for my meetings". The boss is required to say yes, but he may also require that you come in early to make up the time.

The problem is that researchers have been looking for medical treatments for addiction for decades, and haven't gotten there. Likewise, psychiatrists and psychologists have been looking for a better treatment program for decades as well, with no better luck.

Whether you agree with them or not, *Anonymous programs have the best success rate at treating addictions. Period. Whether the contents of that program offends your sensibilities doesn't change that current reality.

From your post, it sounds like you have such an addiction, and won't go to a 12 step program because the belief in a higher power offends you. Aside from the fact that you appear to be confusing the higher power with the Judeo-Christian God (there are plenty of atheists in AA), that's your choice to make. If you are "managing" your addiction with therapy, good for you. But that doesn't mean that 12 step programs are worthless, or only for the weak minded. Your post makes you sound like you have plenty more issues than gaming addiction.

No, but if you are addicted to legal drugs, i.e. alcohol and maybe pain meds, and you get to a medical practitioner before getting into legal trouble, you could fall under the ADA and your employer would need to make "reasonable accomodations".
