I haven't seen anyone here actually indicate that they have read this report in full or the book that is coming out... No, I admit I haven't read the book yet. Did read the article. I had a question. Did the AdTI actually interview Linus?

Trying to hide things is improper. I once had a period of unemployment that I felt I had to explain. So I created a response in case I was asked. During that time I was actually studying some different (for me) programming stuff, and doing some volunteer work. I never felt uncomfortable at all- but I did prepare in advance a reasonable and truthful answer for those down times.

Yes, the more the better. One bit of advice, and it's free, so think twice before applying! When I've been out of work- I'm a programmer- I have tried to keep my resume going by doing volunteer work. Programming, that is. The interviewers don't know my salary is zero, and I keep my hand in. I have gotten a cert or two, and they do look good on the resume.

Shorted Shares..... This Risk Alert tells us that members of the investment community have become more skeptical about the stock's prospects. Because short selling can be especially risky, we can assume a greater degree of bearish conviction than is the case when investors simply sell existing positions or avoid the stock. It is therefore important that you investigate to determine why short interest is rising.

This is an interesting comment- that many people are looking for a cheap way to get what we think of as the minimum. And this distro, dressed up a bit, might be a great idea. But lots of people would ask about AOL and chat rooms. I don't think AOL likes Linux yet, does it?

First Report from Grokker Inside Hearing: IBM Wins Both Motions to Compel Friday, December 05 2003 @ 02:30 PM EST Our first report from a Groklaw volunteer, sam, who attended the court hearing is that IBM won both of its motions to compel and SCO's motion was set for a later date. Here is what sam is telling us, and it's subject to further information and confirmation as more news arrives. We have several attending and I'll do a followup, but this is the first word. Here is what sam is telling us: "Just returned from the hearing. "Needless to say there was blood all over the floor on the SCO side of the aisle none on the 'left' side. "Judge granted both IBM motions to compel, gave SCO thirty days to comply 'with specificity' and suspended further discovery. Did not rule on the SCO motion until next hearing scheduled for Friday, Jan 23 and 10:00 am. "SCO did say that they will be filing a complaint within days on copyright violations. "More to come" So it looks like they have 30 days to finally tell us what code they are talking about "with specificity". Finally.

What if you concentrated on apps that were easy, and with stuff already written. For instance, if a user wanted to compare last month's report with this month's: You'd need a network connection module, an editor to view the final compare, a little compare tool for the user, and a drag and drop interface. How hard would it be to generate some code for simple stuff, even database lookups.
