Me too. I happened to be at a Bestbuy, and I shit my pants when I saw the entire shelf of Half life2 games available. I paid and scrambled home with the game. Only to find my setup.exe STUCK at the "agreement" screen. Which brought me here to slashdot. To my surprise everyone's having the same damn problem.
Is there any way of getting around this so I can play the single player at the least. This is torture, the box is 2ft away from me. I am not mad at Bestbuy at all, but I am mad at Valve for making this encryption garbage.
1.) Soulseek is far better than Kazaa. http://www.slsknet.org.
2.) If I didn't have a miniPod, I would have NEVER installed iTunes. What does that say? It says the user must pay $300 for a miniPod before there is a reason to try iTunes.
3.) For iTunes to gain ground, Apple must sell the miniPod in the $150 range. The iTunes music-buying experience is mind-boggling when you can sample every song in the entire store at lightning speed. Too damn expensive when you got walmart.com selling songs at $0.88 a song, and 40GB players everywhere for cheaper.
The question is HOW do you get a Gmail account? It's still beta. I have yet to find 1 person with a Gmail account. Hotmail is the only free alternative, since you can sign up at will.
Forget Clippy, they haven't even gotten Outlook right. So far even the latest version of Outlook can only check 1 hotmail account at a time. I got so many hotmail accounts that I have to login manually. And... I refuse to use Outlook Express.
The quick solution is those One-Touch Maxtor storage drive, where it supposedly makes a backup to a mirrored drive inside at the press of a button.
Though I haven't tried it. And I too have mountains and pyramids of CDs at home waiting to be converted over to dual-layered DVDs whenever they are more affordable.
Don't mention Celeron. I don't know why Intel keep on releasing it. They give low-budget a new low. In today's market I just don't understand the need to have a low-end Celeron line.
I just don't believe Customers can't wait 2 weeks before the price of a Pentium-4 drop, and they MUST have a higher-Ghz-count Celeron today. What's even worse are the laptop Celerons, which perform like 486 chips relabeled.
That's the part I never quite understood about companies that want to be built in downtown areas.
The commute sucks cause everyone has to drive to a subway station first. Then take a subway as the 2nd part of commute.
Even if you want to drive, chances are you won't find parking.
The office lease is far more expensive in the center of a city than some suburbs.
The network speed is the same.
The company may be in some skyscraper building sharing it with 50 companies. That means your company is on the 20th floor. Management gets all the window office, and everyone else cubes.
Just to extend on that EA monopoly power. When you watch SportsCenter, they always use Madden as a football demo. ESPN fears using their own ESPN Sega football game, since it may jeopardize $$$ of marketing dollars. That's when you know EA's got you by the balls.
Everything iPod related is overpriced. I own one, and I am pissed off that all the accessories just never drop in price. As if the original iPod unit wasn't enough.
Just don't buy EA sports games. They have a marketing lock on the video game industries. Their sports games overall don't compared to Sega ESPN games in cost or quality. The only reason why Madden is a success is the 15+ years of football game monopoly. They are slipping away every year.
EA's best games coame from small-mid size company acquisitions. Electronic Arts themselves are just martketers. Like SCO is to lawyers. The real product comes some where else, and the company is just abusing the hell out of all the developers with their over-achieving marketing tactics.
So far I am sickly blown away by firefox. I figured by now, I would have some temptation to float back to IE, but nope.
The only thing lacking (IF MOZILLA FOLKS ARE READING) is the bookmark management. Which is so hard to deal with in html format compared to the way IE has it all in a folder, and you are just moving folders in and out. Granted the bookmark management thing is compatible for every OS. It still seem slow compared to any native windows system explorer or file manager in linux.
Hey it's not easy to block any gorilla, nevermind a trillion dollar one. Though again, Google should just block the word "windows" and "microsoft" at the javascript level on the main page.
Yes, but M$ is smart. The readme.txt on the source code would say, need Xbox to compile. So you'll be forced to buy their console just for that purpose.
If that's the case, Xbox2 standard will be different than Xbox2 professional by a piece of plastic and a logo.
Look at windows XP home and professional, which can even be swapped in between versions with NTswitcher.exe. M$ is notorious for marketing the same garbage 30 different ways.
Tell me about it. Umm... yeah, we should ban microwaves too. Since it CAN explodes with aluminum foil.

I have been screaming to tell people to boycott EA sports games for years. There is no reason why a company that charges 2x more than the ESPN/Sega's $19.99 for sports game should have the same size development staff. They should be twice the size, and the games clearly be twice as good. It's NOT.
Madden is the only game that is supposedly comparable to a Sega sports game. And the win margin is smaller every year. My personal opinion tells me this year's ESPN NFL2k5 finally topped Madden. ESPN already have a better basketball, hockey and baseball game. Yes, I rent enough AND play thru enough franchises to make this kind of judgement. Perhaps the only reason why people haven't changed, is they have gotten used to the control schemes or they are EA loyalists for life. In that case keep paying twice as much.
Cubicle life nowadays is nothing compared to cubicle life in the past without Internet. Ouch, now that's an impossible 8 hr if I am just staring a mechanical type writer all freaking day.

They are not smart enough to be Microsoft.
They are too small to be an HP or IBM.
They are too big and slow to be a Redhat.
They are not unique and creative enough to be Apple.
However, despite all the stock prices and layoffs, they are doing far better than SGI, SCO and Novell.
That's the part I never quite understood about companies that want to be built in downtown areas.

I just called 4 EBgames around me, and not one of them had it. If anything they all confirmed it was redated to Nov 16th.
There is nothing in the entire corporate universe more important than management folks getting richer.
Your creativity, your breakthrus, your love of projects, your family, your rights... are all secondary.

Ahhh... that explains the Marvel police I saw on Halloween arresting some little kid dressed up as Spiderman.
Everything iPod related is overpriced. I own one, and I am pissed off that all the accessories just never drop in price. As if the original iPod unit wasn't enough.
Please, nowadays classic toys mean buying PS2 games from the Greatest-Hits bin at $19.99.

Of course, Jurors need to play Grand Theft Auto too.
Yeah nothing like REAL electricity flowing through the air waves. Get electricuted without knowing it.

Tell me about it, I got a christmas list the size of the sun. Just ESPN basketball 2k5 and ESPN nfl 2k5 alone is eating up all my time.
[Here's top 5 on my list]
-GTA san andreas
-WWE smackdown vs raw
-Half life 2
-Resident Evil online
-COD united offensive
Holyshit I am glad gran turismo 4 won't be out till 2005. Anything else worth being in my top 5?
