no, I will not publish the encryption key or the boot block. That's Microsoft copyright material, and I respect their copyright.

Microsoft is not particularly happy about the paper, but they seemed to concede that well, reverse engineering is protected by law, so there's nothing they can do about it. Let's hope they don't change their opinion...they've been known to go back on their word before. "

    also, from his website...

"You are actually allowed by law to reverse engineer copyrighted code so long as it is necessary to discover the ideas or functional elements behind the code (still, I'm not allowed to post copyrighted code for free distribution). Hey, microsoft...what are the ideas and functional elements behind your BIOS ROM? ... hmm...patent search turns up nil on the Xbox...guess we'll just have to reverse engineer it. The concept of high definition DVD is around the corner. In theory, the players would cost around the same (as D-VHS or any DVD Progressive Scan) and the discs would cost around the same as DVDs now. Plus you get all the bonuses of the DVD format.

  18. MSFT wins out [bg ingo] on AT&T Broadband To Merge With Comcast Cable · · Score: 3, Insightful

As an ATT Broadband subscriber for TV, Internet, and PHONE, I can say that I have been following this case very closely. To sum up the whole bidding wars: its basically AOL vs. MSFT.

AOL was heavily looking into buying the corp which made MSFT very scared. MSFT's entire coming business plans rely on broadband: .NET, My services, even the Xbox cant be fully used without broadband. Earlier, Bill Gates said he thought the BB market was moving to slowly. If AOL were to get the deal, MSFT's plans would be severly crippled.

MSFT started backing COX and COMCAST in the bidwars. I can say I am thankful that comcast won, even though its basically the least of the two evils (AOL vs. MSFT).

This deal is a lot more important than just ATT. It could play a huge role in both AOL and MSFT's core strategies.

No, no, no. After living in Israel for about a year, I can tell you that copyright infringement (especially cable/sattelite/software piracy) run rampant. I'd say around 80% of all software was pirated, and most people I knew stole either sattelite or cable television.
