"So my point is if you align the launches there's not much difference in performance of the 360 and PS3, but that's not nearly as newsworthy as a zealous mob screaming about the demise of one or the other."

Only if you look at total worldwide sales. But if you look at specifics, the PS3 is lagging behind every other console except in Japan. It's getting KILLED in American sales and is behind in the "All Other" category as well. And while both are still dominated by the Wii in Japan, since there are almost no 360 sales the PS3 is ahead of the 360 quite easily.

But outside of Japan the PS3 is lagging behind.

But as another comment has pointed out, this is a month of Apple bugs, not OS X bugs.

Ok, I'll play that game. To get a comparable system, you need to do some serious upgrading to the Gateway. XP Pro (which is free for a limited time), Office Basic (as the mac comes with iWork '06), a single 512mb stick of ram (only available in 533mhz modules, oh well), upgraded graphics, upgraded monitor (the MacBook has a 1440x1960 resolution, closest option on the gateway is the 1400x1040), upgraded hard drive, upgraded optical drive, and upgraded bluetooth.

All of that to get it *almost* equal to the MacBook is $1814.98. Plus, that does not come with a firewire camera, nor a remote control, not to mention all the software Apple bundles in for free.

So the premium is $185.02, and that's only if the additional hardware and software standard on the MacBook are worthless to you.

As someone who records "unreleased live musical performances," I think I have the authority to say you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

The term "bootleg" usually refers to a recording of a band who does not allow recording (usually called a stealth recording) that is offered up for sale. Tapers hate bootlegs, we tape for our own and others enjoyment, not to make money off someone else's hard work. However sometime some shady individuals get a hold of our recordings and put them up on Ebay. There are entire groups of tapers dedicated to bringing these illegal auctions down.

The record stores that were raided deserved it, but offering up the shows for free to anyone who wants them is ok in my book.
