Don't forget about Sierra's reillustrated line. They only did it with their earliest games (e.g. King's Quest 1, Space Quest 1, Hero's Quest 1 and a few others).

They basically took some of their old adventure games done with ega graphics only and updated them to full 256 color vga and better sound. The story was exactly the same but sometimes with a few extras and minor changes.

I can't think of any games off the top of my head that have been remakes quite at that level.

I agree with the parent, if you buy a retail box that includes the fan and you follow the instructions in the manual while installing, then you shouldn't have to worry about the cpu dying. That's assuming you operate it as you're supposed to. If it burns up from overclocking, that's your own fault for not taking extra precautions.

Your car analogy doesn't work as most car manuals have a maintenance schedule that tells you to change the oil every so often. You don't have to mount a big fan on the front of your new car to keep it cool enough to operate properly.

Now, with that being said, I've never had an AMD cpu burn up. That claim sounds like a bunch of BS to me. As for the guy that thinks it's better to buy an oem cpu and super duper fan, I'd take a retail box any day. I've never actually had to use a warranty before but the retail box comes with a 3yr warranty (+included heat sink and fan) for maybe an extra $6.

First of all, non commercial software may mean less profits for businesses that develop software but not businesses in general. If a bank uses free non-commercial software then they make more profit. That's assuming the non-commercial software is of high quality and doesn't reduce productivity to a level that causes their profits to go down.

Second, open source doesn't necessarily mean free or non commercial. It's entirely possible for a company to produce something that's open source and sell it.

My university's administrative system is far from free but they ship all of the source with it so that it can be customized to fit each of their clients' unique requirements. This also means that my university hires programmers to make those customizations.

With any luck, they'll learn enough to try to fix new things on their own. You might have to actually be social and try to educate them though. Just over a year ago, I got some kind of bug bite (or at least that's the assumption). A big red spot developed around it which kept growing so I went to the doctor. The doc gave me a shot and an assortment of pills to stop the itching/inflammation.
So, what's that got to do with blogs? Well, later that night I got the hiccups. After maybe an hour, they went away. Then I woke up in the middle of the night with hiccups again and couldn't get rid of them. Since I couldn't sleep, I decided to do some googling and found another person talking about this side effect of the drug on their blog. My doctor of course thought I was a nut when I asked her about it even after I found a write up from the company that makes the drug listing hiccups as a possible side effect.
This person's blog was just about their life and battle with some disease. While I wouldn't have found it all too exciting under normal circumstances, I appreciate the fact that I was able to get useful information from it when the need was there.

As for my doctor, well I won't be going back there. I don't really care to have a doctor that blows me off when I tell them there's something wrong with me after they just shot me full of drugs.
