how exactly can the BIOS track the software on the machine? Seeing as to how the type of file system used is bios independant.... can they see my.mp3 files if the drive is formatted as a novell partition, or an os2 partition?
I dont really see how the BIOS can have anything to do with DRM. and no, I didnt rtfa.
its really more of an OBSERVATION than a LAW. a THEOREM at best. While it has held true through my short lifetime so far, it certainly does not qualify as a LAW.
im not in charge of the servers. im just a programmer. my boss is in charge of our 5 servers. i know for a fact one of them is currently being used as a spam relay. its exchange 5.5 on NT.... the reason i suspect this is that there is a large amount of outbound messages rejected, being sent during non-working hours. I shudder to think of the messages that are getting through compared to my reject log.
well im not in charge of the servers, it took several days to convince my boss that there was a problem, several more for him to understand how much this problem sucks...
so if you could tell me how to secure my(bosses) server i would greatly appreciate it... (and yes, i understand linux would not have this problem but that is not an option right now)
i dont want to get blacklisted. the economy sucks enough right now.
If my hypothetical fiance presented me with a $14,000 lump of carbon, my first response would be "Are you fuckin' insane?!"
My second would be "Sell the rock and let's get a plasma TV."
Our company of 100 people averages 14,000 legit email per day
What could your company possibly do that has everyone from the CEO to the temps reading and responding to on average 140 emails per day? other than a spammer, I cant imagine what sort of business would have that kind of per capita email volume. Not trolling or flaming, just curious...
yawn.... have you read 1984? if ford decides to modify their tires in the above prescribed way... what does that have to do with the government watching you? I dont see how the government is involved here. You could make the weak argument that what ford is doing is anti-competitive, but you still have the option to buy a different brand of car, dont you? If you dont like ford's scheme here, dont buy it. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the government or 1984.
yeah pretty much....... any p2 properly configured should be able to handle all that and then some. the cpu is STILL not the bottleneck, its the bandwidth.
(also having a university-supplied BIG PIPE doesn't hurt).
well there you go... having a massive amount of bandwidth will allow you to survive a slashdotting. In most cases of slashdotting, I dont think the server was the bottleneck... its no problem for a server to dish out static pages... its the bandwidth, especially for serving pictures or videos....
I used to do this as a last resort, and was surprised how it did work once in a while. Of course the drive would fail again shortly, but it will give you time to get data off...
Its a good idea to put the drive in a ziplock type bag to prevent unwanted moisture.
The Netware console is so primitive, that there were numerous times when I would have loved being able to have plain old Bash around for simple things like file copying, scripts etc.
sort of agree I guess but look up TOOLBOX.NLM sometime... this will give you the ability to do much of what you want. I think you will find between toolbox.nlm and the other tools on the server you can accomplish most whatever you want from the server. I also think it is really, really stupid that they dont provide toolbox.nlm with the standard distro, since you can get it free from novell's site anyways
In Minneapolis anyways... my phone will drop connection just going under an overpass! it seems random how much signal strength I get. I can be in the same place, sometimes the signal is strong, sometimes there is none. My friend has verizon and he can get signal in many different places that I cant.
When you write a.NET web application you use the same code (meaning VB.NET, C# etc, as opposed to ASP, or VB Script) that you would use when writing a desktop app,
I also like.NET, it is the first good thing they have put in a while, it beats the hell out of COM...
but your statement is not quite correct, unless I am not fully informed which is definately a possibility.... I have been finding more and more differences between programming for.aspx versus a standard desktop application... Still it beats the heck out of VS6...
The redhat iso is about 0.00000000001% of all bittorrent traffic.
really?
the ONE and ONLY thing I have EVER downloaded off bittorrent was RH9
now lets figure this out.... given your percentage (0.00000000001%).... combined with the number of slashdot users (lets be really optimistic and round up to 700,000)...
that means that I am exactly.000007 of a person...
or conversely... for every person like me, there are umm... more than trillions of people. Given there arent that many people on the planet...
we have a scanning department that scans millions of docs/month for other companies.... we checked out various delivery methods, from uploading to burning CDs and shipping... we found for almost every job the most efficient in cost/time is by using USB hard drives... we have like 10 of them... 120gigs a piece, at 250$ per device. we just bring these to a customers site, upload the data to their network, and take it back. quick and painless.
It would be so much easier to hit a button, have my phone ring, and watch her go mid-evil on my schlong.
... sounds cool, until your phone gets a virus that changes the ringtone, and suddenly you find yourself a love target for every pitbull in a 2km radius...

-----but my 14.4 modem is working fine...
you lucky bastard... my 300 baud double-wide 8-bit ISA hayes just doesnt download the pr0n fast enough...

ones and zeros, of course.
do you have a better idea?

Will you marry me?
> I bet we'll never see Microsoft patch a theoretical exploit.
I bet they do it all the time and just dont publicize it.

I remember such classics as Wavy Navy, Montezumas Revenge, and Karateka...
on an apple II, later a IIgs
and all while I should have been doing algebra
does that cost include count the SCO license?
oh come on, thats not flamebait!
well if you can get power from an Anonymous Coward, slashdot should have the energy market cornered...
get the SCO execs some Creatine!!!

but as to this
I have found that I can do both. I have my TV in the same room as the computer, I write plenty of code while watching sporting events, movies etc...
