So, is it going to be replaced with a online library? Are they going to let students rely on Wikipedia for reference? what about all them books that are too old and fragile to be scanned. Seems like a very short sighted decision to me.
Okey, now it made sense when FunCom gave free access to there MMO Anarchy Online, they put (real life) adverts on the already well used advertising boards throughout the game. People who paid monthly for their accounts would have the adverts removed.
This just seems to be another way for the MMO people to get another few $ from your account. They're breaking the immersion of it, imagine having a "Diet Coke Lemon" advert while hacking up some Orcs in a far far place...
Anyone have a real-world example of Rails scaling to a large project and lots of traffic?
While theres no sites i know off with massive traffic that run rails, theres a few large projects. TextDrive run StrongSpace which is basiclly online storage using SFTP and RoR. Also theres a few from the creators of RoR, BaseCamp, BackPack...
Sorry, should of really explained that a bit better. Recently released mobile phones are expensive... i know you can get like a T610 on PAYG still for pennies.
I was really trying to empasise the fact of a cheaper chip in the phone wont mean that prices for new phones will drop.
Then again the must buy now attitude can play into your hands, like i got my digital camera from dixons. It was the last one in the shop, display model, got £50 off the price and a 256mb XD card for free, all because it had a very minor scratch on the bottom of the case.
Afterwards i checked online and i managed to get it about £30 cheaper than whats available online, and all boxed and bits included, just the slight scratch
Thing is, Dixons have a hard time pushing display models, and you can abuse that and get stupid discounts just cause the manager wants it off the shelves so they can get the next camera on display.
I doubt this will reduce the cost of mobile phones, if anything it will just make the likes of Nokia and Samsung even more profit.
in the UK, Mobiles are already stupidly expensive, so much so to get a top of the range phone you have to get it on a contract to cut 90% of the cost of it. Having a contract is like a loan these days... pay for your phone over 12 or 18 months.
While the big corps maybe more hassle, they are also a bigger prize.
On the point of wireless networks, thats not the only weakness in big companies. A telecoms company i used to work for are very lax on the employee leaving proceedures. I was finished up on a temp contract and left the company. three months later i had a new contract and i was back there. I sat down at a desk and typed in my login details... they worked, only my password had expired. I still had all the access i had previously.
Also a friend of mine still had the security card that was issused to them when they started, she left for about 6 months. She came back and the card still worked on the doors still...
Do i really care for someone who can't notice the diffrence between Mac and MAC?
The remaining being divided between Linux, MAC etc. now lets say MAC has 1 percent...
Also another point:
The question is why do they? I love Microsoft. Absolutely adore it and what's more, I hate Linux. I think it's the most over rated piece of software ever built and survives simply out of spite and not because it is terribly good at doing something because it is not!
The guy obviously loves GUI, and his WindowBlinds themes... fine Linux desktop enviroments are not up to play with the big boys yet, no reason to dismiss a whole OS on a few faults when your never going to come into contact with the real power. Its like saying AS/400 is crap at running games... therefore its crap full stop.
Did you know that Windows XP can keep your computer up-to-date automatically with the latest updates and enhancements? You can set Windows to recognize when you are online, search for downloads from the Windows Update Web site, and deliver them directly to your desktop. Genuine Windows validation is not required to use the Automatic Updates feature.
For a equal game your looking at the likes of X2, but even them are far too complicated with plot. Why dont game devs just understand we want to do anything, and play a bit of plot if we want to!
Anyway, im playing EVE online which is pritty much as close as Elite your gonna get, with the added kick its MMO
I was in pritty much the same situation, but this time it was local goverment, and not only that but they'd been caught with it before. New IT manager, new mistakes. He ordered everyone around to "bend the rules, and we'll fix it later". but they never got round to it.
Problem was he started getting shirty about my personal blog when i made a joke about one of the councillors in the area. So much so i ended up resigning. A quick talk with the BSA and now i hear that idiot is also out of a job.
While i've technically done a "Good Thing"(tm) i still feel a bit evil as my actions generally cause another person to loose his job.
While being a snitch is the best way to fuck someone over, make sure you have the heart to commit fully to your actions.
Woah, i downloaded this like....8hrs ago
on
DivX 6.0 is Out
·
· Score: 2, Informative
Wow, i downloaded divx 6.0 this morning and didnt even realise its this fresh off the press.
After a quick play around with it, there didnt seem to be any noticable diffrence in encoded quality but the file size did drop a bit
Fine i had to babysit my upgrade, it wasnt a simple apt-get dist-upgrade...
At first when i did a apt-get upgrade it wanted to a REMOVE all the core packages i use that machine for (ssh, apache, mysql, courier...) i had to upgrade one at a time, making sure nothing would barf. Only at the end did i upgrade APT and then do a dist-upgrade to get everything up to speed
This was a long time in the waiting, of course it wasnt going to be really easy.
Also happend in UO, with popular blacksmiths inflating prices for a week, worked well, lots of money made then the undercutters came in and made a killing. Usually the system adjusts for any arranged price fixing.
If its a simple SCSI interface, network card / fiber interface, or summat pritty standard you could probably spend the dollars on a USB/Firewire bit of kit. If your using something really specialised (special render cards) then your probably better getting a desktop and spended the extra money on sync software.
Only laptop i know of that supports some PCI is Dell laptops which had 2 PCI slots on a riser card in a docking station.
I use PuTTY on a Nokia 6600 (Series 60). Excellent and works (very slowly). I use it on O2 UK with MobileWeb settings...shame i've not got a easier way to input onto the phone.

Sorry to say but the "hot chick from farscape" has gone this ep and amanda tapping has returned.....sorry dude
Now that selling items can be a full time job for some people i could see it heading down the "loss of profits" routes to charge this person.
If you took the free speed upgrade from NTL then you are also currently under download limits, though at the moment they're just "guidelines".
Just wait for NTL to stick the knife in like they did to me ("we want you to pay £10 per GB over your limit"). Off to court and moving to Bulldog

Heh i'm perma-banned as i'm behind a isp's proxy...no way i can ever get round it. I'll get maybe one refresh per week.

To quote from Microsoft's own rejected key page:

So... whats the point?
Yup, come to that conclusion myself.
All posted in TV Anytime format, even the BBC have wrote a little opensource Java API for it...
Now to hunt down a parser in PHP...
Probably better to say the most advanced home computer then...

Green Nuns of the Revolution? finding them anywhere except on TIP cds is amazing, so good luck...
Depends what your using them for!
