of course SCSI is still way more expensive than IDE/ATA 100 so for the average person (like myself) we'll stick with that, but I hate it when people start saying IDE is faster or just as fast as SCSI drives - because unless your comparing New IDE/ATA drives to OLD SCSI drives it ain't happening.

I know a lot of MAC enthusiasts here will start commenting that "See you can build a mac just like you can a pc!" and I myself don't wish to start a flame war here but Building a MAC is no where near the ease of building a PC.

For a PC you need 2 main things the parts and 1 Screwdriver.

Building a MAC on the otherhand requires the parts, a Screwdriver, a Wire cutter, Dremel and cutting discs, 4" nylon wire ties, Electrical tape, Die, tap, and drill - (see the macoptz link on the article if you don't believe me)

The reason for this is because Apple - although they sell parts separately DOES NOT SELL THE MAC CASES BY THEMSELVES - so in order to make your powersuply and mac board work with a pc case requires all the time and effort of making a custom mod of your pc box. IMHO a very time consuming process unless you do that sort of thing on a regular basis and have all your stuff readily at hand.

I'm totally in favor of people trying this - just be forwarned that this is not a simple buy the parts slap the pieces together turn it on project - it's time consuming and requires a lot more tools and skill than needed for pc building.

Apple has taken legal action against coworkers that leaked info in the past (also mentioned in the article) but I think the real reason why they got upset is

"Steve uses Macworld and other appearances more effectively than any other (technology) leader," Bajarin said. "In that context they want to have that surprise element," because posting those secrets early dilutes the impact, Bajarin said."

of course the lawyers will argue:

"Innovation is in Apple's DNA, so the protection of trade secrets is crucial to our success. Our policy is to take legal actions where necessary to preserve the confidentiality of our intellectual property," Apple said in a prepared statement.

Either way I'm all for getting rid of legacy software - one step at a time. I know most won't agree with me on this and I also know that it wouldn't be the best thing from a financial point of view either, but I would rather strip all the support for things like serial ports, parrell ports, ps/2 ports, etc... no longer include them on the new hardware and no longer include any type of built in drivers/api's...etc... for any type of legacy item (that goes for floppy drives too) in the OS - which would probably allow for a much faster OS with a smaller install size - IMO
