  2. Re:Link to CNN article on MP3 Download Prices to Rise? · · Score: 1

Let not forget that music on CD costs $16 a track in this age of one hit CDs. It's rare that you get 5 or more listenable songs on a cd in the first place. Even that could come out to $3 per track.

As for the RIAA pissing about recording cost and production cost and sales, just ask how much goes into the average CD production. Most musicians buy thier own studio time just to get CDs pressed for distribution at local shows. Very acceptable quality comes from this. The goal of course is to someday get "signed" by a marketer. Then go on tour, which is the only place newly signed artist REALLY make money.

Live Performance is it. Just like You and I. Musicians should get paid for showing up to work each day (or each night). In this day and age we do not need the RIAA. We (musicians and supporters) could create music, market it, distribute it and advertise tour dates via cheap internet resources. No RIAA. Give the musicians what they would normally get per download and give the rest to the newly create music service. I know some of this goes on already but it needs more resources, better rating services and better advertising. It also need to be compatable will all MP3... no... OGG players.
Many "labels' could be created and all would be welcome to participate in the new system using a standardised data interchange format.

I declare bullshit on you. An advertiser has to actively ask google to display ads for "scott tissue" when someone googles for "kleenex". It's very easy to google for tissue and see if the advertiser is "borrowing" the scott name. It's easy to ask the advertiser to do the right thing or be banned. Google simply needs to carry a policy to warn advertisers that google will bill for legal fees if your a name stealing butthead. plus google can do a quick check on thier own for good faith.

Isn't the internet an system by which you can interact with your friends and associates in various connected ways that make this patent kinda redundant anyway. There are no limitations to the way you can link your apps to be relavant to each other in some way or another. For instance, loggin into the game network could send emails to your friends. your friend (had they still used email for communication) would receive an email with a link to launch an application (GameX, Business whiteboardY, shared spreadsheetZ) and join in the interactive meeting. Big Fucking Deal. This whole software patents thing has been bullshit all along. There is "virtually" nothing you can't do, pardon the pun.

Simplification is good. I have a Nokia 6800. Got it for free from AT&T before they were bought by cingular which is just as well. It looks like a phone and flips open to reveal a keyboard. They now have the 6810 and 6820. To me it is a good mix of features. Cell phone with great coverage, Planner, email, prioritized TODO, IRDA, text notes and mesaging, internet to check/buy/sell your stocks (and lots of kids features too).
I was about to buy a PDA when I found 6800. I recommend that any should at least have a look at the 68xx before buying a cell phone/plan. It's small and has a (thumb) keyboard.
