    I wonder why someone would like to go with plain LDAP instead of sticking with the Kerberos default?

    Kerberos is a network authentication service while LDAP is a directory service. In fact, access to LDAP should be restricted using Kerberos in that case for better security given the environment IMHO.

    Amazon itself avoid using its patent in order to avoid to pay itself royalities for using it.

    At least, that's what they left me to think since I ordered a couple of books in February I am still waiting for and they changed at least three or four times the delivery date for them.

    Maybe they are just waiting for the patent that will enable them to change the calendar days at will in order to synchronize everything perfectly.

    And while I am at it. The FA is clear about the kind of facilities needed to achieved some destructive "useful" result. The enrichement facility alone is a challenge. This is the reason the main treat is countries already having such facilities for civilian purpose and trying to recable them to produce military-grade uranium. To do that, they must avoid inspections from the UN organization in Vienna. So, about Saddam, it was not impossible he could produce military-grade uranium, since he was having some pieces of the puzzle, but from this point, you still need the proper explosive, being able to machine the core, berylium envelop, explosive lense, do some testing, etc.

    Surely not something Joe Doe can do in his basement with the latest nifty: Nuclear Weapons for Dummies.

    It's strange, but my Firefox 1.0.3 setup on Linux, which has never been changed with regard to this option, has install software switch on, however, the whitelist is empty. So, it is not vulnerable by default.

    I agree a browser has nothing to do with the capability to run arbitrary programs on the system it is running on. That shouldn't have been possible in the first place.

    What I found an order of magnitude much more useless is the design of sites which are 99% container and 1% content. Why should we bother beefing up our browsing devices for such a nuisance?

    Just for example, last night I was about to order chicken on the internet. The restaurant's site insisted to show me an animated introduction, then open a multi-frames colorful page with ads on specials and how good is their chickens. Not only it requires Flash to order chicken, but you need also a fast connection for all the images. It crashed twice during the process, I decided to go out and bring some sushis. Should it be so complicated to order chicken?

    Of course, I may used phone, however, in this specific case, I was using my phone line to surf from a location having only a 56Kbps connection.

    Just make sure you are trying to access a system which is really owned by the linuxense company. Otherwise, it may end really bad for you. Instead of applause, a bunch of FBI agents will knock at your door.

    Well, I guess. But how would you define a defect in marketing? And then, reduce them to this thin number that six sigma represent?

    For example, a bad answer to a customer call or a mispell in document maybe a defect. In a team of about 1000 maketing peoples, how many bad answers or mispells in e-mails can you tolerate? Is marketing ever possible under such considerations?

    In anyway, if you are right, I am pretty sure they haven't hit the six sigma target or even been close to it.

    Hey! That remembers me when IBM tried to implement six sigma standards in marketing. They end up laying-off many workers and continue business as usual. I always wonders if this six sigma was not nothing else then the name of the team responsible to lay-off people.

    A small techy business will need a more technology-fluent CEO than a big corporation which can rely on many specialised counsellors in-house and will look more at the management capabilities of his CEO, as well as his business-ethic (if such a thing exists).

    I wonder which freeway it was. I drived Montreal down to Dover DE, crossing Newark NY and Albany NY and I left kismet open and I never picked a signal. Maybe I was driving too fast. ;-)

    Since almost any bad guy can have a kid mail his package and use the machine or just rent a Krusty the clown costume to use the machine, how don't see this as very useful to prevent terrorism or anything else related.

    So, here is my suggestion to improve the system. They should add a web interface to the photo gallery and add a "show your tits for free stamps" function. This way, at least, it will be turned into something useful.

    Well, don't you give them your money to manage it in first place? You still can store it in your mattress and it won't cost you a penny to access it.

    I'd rather than say you are yourself arrogant telling them they should not charge you for the service they provide. Perhaps you were never confronted to the situation to need to access your money while being 1000 miles away of your mattress.

    And I don't see how they should be legally obligated to serve you at counter tellers without charging you for it? And expect the bill to be much higher than the ATM fees. Or maybe, they will simply choose to not let you open an account.

    Right, that's not cheap at all for what it is. So, you can imagine the benefit margin for the architects...

    About 10 yesrs ago, architects from McGill University developped tunnel like houses, they were real houses, insulated for winter, heated, etc and they were selling for about 40 000$ CDN. I don't believe prices has sky rocketed, the land yes, but not material to build the house and plans were very simple, so, this is not very long to build one and it is even cheaper to manufacture them and just assemble them on site.

    Taking into account this cardboard house is not heated, nor insulated, nor storm proof, it's not cheap at all.

    Seriously, Gentoo doesn't overwrite your config files, it drops updated files with the ._cfg prefix in the directory with a number and the name of the file as a suffix. You simply have to do a find in /etc to find them all diff them to see if something important has changed in latest version. But this has nothing to do with the distro. If a package is changing its configuration files format o is adding or removing important stuff you will always have to modify your config file if you want to use the latest version. So, if you don't want to spend time migrating a package version to another one, just don't upgrade in the first place...
