Sure Broadband speeds are awesome for downloading pages and stuff, and the ping is very very nice too! But the main draw for be for BB Service is the convenience- my house is wired with network cables & wallplates and it all just goes through a basic home router- so I can take my laptop or whatever computer and plug in and do whatever I need to do on the Internet with no dialing in or anything.
Hmmm come to think of it the speed is truly useful - i can sit at home and go into work through the VPN and run Citrix- don't have to drive in to work at 7:00pm when some query needs to be run, plus I can talk on the phone with the user while doing it. Lol actually was running P.SQL queries over a VPN connection directly (Citrix wasn't set up properly).
Anyways BB is important enough to me that I'd spend $100 per month and change location to have it (within reason).
Enough already! This is getting ridiculous, soon we're going to get fined or executed or something if you're watching your TV and someone who does not have a valid MSNBC license to see that programming walks in the room and happens to look at your screen.
Heh I still haven't fully figured out just what.NET is - as near as I can figure it's a framework to allow for easier Application Hosting? I also get the idea that MS is going to be cramming it down our throats:)
Reminds me of the Panasonic branded 3DO, only this sounds more useful and will probably have more games (though I did love my 3DO). Nintendo should have the name recognition to help this thing along too. And it looks even more like a DVD player than did PS2- so lots of guys can sucker their girlfriends & wives into buying a new 'DVD' Player:)
What's the big deal with this email, even if it is from Microsoft? So they are priming their sales force to make arguments for their product...um isn't that what sales and marketing departments do? There was nothing in this email that was really shocking or surprising in any way whatsoever. They are preparing pro-Microsoft sales materials- um, duh. They are trying to find out if they have competitors running on their customer's systems- um, duh.
And they must know that there's not much they can really do about Linux anyways- there's no one company they can just buy out and the people that are using it tend to be 'in the know' already and won't be fooled by MS ad material.
Well dunno how I missed that...must be too close to Christmas or something:)
Well that's not gonna keep me from making half assed comments!
Don't think there's enough content out there for a whole videogame channel- heck look at TechTV- they can hardly fill the days and their channel should include the videogame industry- I mean it's the freaking Dave Chalk's channel as far as I can tell!
This article is confusing- are they saying there are no video game shows already or something? There are already several shows out, perhaps the best being Electric Playground (www.elecplay.com).
Entertaining and they have a good number of interviews and such too.
Why do fans of a given system feel the need to freak out when there's even a hint that their pet system may not be the number one selling system? They foam at the mouth and rant and rave about stats and 'they're only selling more of the other system because blah blah blah'.
Can't you just enjoy your system? I've never understood die hard system loyalty anyways- all that matters to me is the games.
For this year, I think you would be very, very hard pressed to try and say that any other system other than Playstation2 has the best & most games.
Will this still be the same next year? Possibly, but I'm pretty sure that we will see X-Box with a respectable library of excellent games (even if MS has to purchase game companies out right to get 'em), and Gamecube will have a larger library than N64 enjoyed, though I think the big N will still rely on its solid core of 'kids' games and branding to earn them most of their money. PS2 should continue to be quite strong, and there are probably tricks in that screwy little EE to be dug up yet- though I would expect that many games may be starting to look a bit greyer when compared to its competition.
Interestingly though- there seems to be a whole lot of cross release games this time around- which may give glimpses of the various systems' underlying strengths and weaknesses.
But really lose the foaming frenzying fanboy fixation on your favorite platform and just play the games that you can get!
Oh accounting is very important- just that there are plenty of packages out there...the manufacturing software (assuming you want it integrating) limits your choice of financial packages.
In my experience (manufacturing, specifcially chemcial manufacturing), the accounting software is almost irrelevant. The trick is finding a suitable manufacturing package and then you just use whatever accounting package that works with it.
That being said I'd be ecstatic if there was good process manufacturing software available for Linux! But the gamut of features would be rather daunting- solid flexible modules for inventory with lot tracking, formulations, hazmat and environmental reporting as well as MSDS and labelling, production BOM, scheduling, heck throw in HR...and of course the mentioned accounting package.
Heh, give me all of this and our company switches to Linux!
Anyone read David Drake's "Northworld"? It's a cool scifi-fantasy book based on Norse legends. Kind of hard to explain- it starts off as a sci-fi book, but when the main character travels to investigate this one world it gets rather odd and almost mystical and it's a neat cross between hitech in a very primative and low tech society.
A great read! Just ignore the totally gimpy looking cover on the paperback edition!!
Arg why I oughta haul them out of their cars then back over them and leave the car there- then nuke the ambulance when it comes creating a chain reaction of exploding cars and flaming people running around and...OH you're talking about the game!
Bah games are just well games...I mean does any normal person not know the difference? I wouldn't ever think of doing stuff like that in real life, same for every game, movie etc I've ever seen. Now maybe six year olds shouldn't be playing these games but will...DUH maybe their parents should be keeping an eye on what their kids are up to? And as for the people who are unbalanced and apparently 'get ideas' from watching these games there's no shortage of places for them to 'get ideas' from- how about the evening news?
This is why GTA3 is such a successful game I think; there's plenty of challenges- but you aren't forced to do them all at once, in the game's order. And when things do go wrong you don't *have* to reload you can just suck it up and steal another cop car >:) When a mission is to hard there's lots of other things to do...random cab missions or finding a new jump.
Come to think of it, the games I've enjoyed the most are mostly free form games- Elite and X, many RPGs including Daggerfall and EverQuest, Star Control 2 and many others. They all allow the player to decide what happens next at least to some extent.
Ah nuts, and here I was happy that I rarely get any spam at all! Maybe two spams a day if that. Anyone actually get hundreds of spams or does that really happen all that often?
This isn't anything new, I remember Cable Regina (a cable provider that was always ahead of the game) more or less had live TV ratings and this was five or six years ago- but due to CRTC regs they couldn't just go around releasing them. Or something like that- my memory's a bit fuzzy.
Heh another interesting thing about Cable Regina- it was like a collective or something- profits all went back into updating services and even producing some local shows (all hail James & Kevin!)
But tracking what you watch is easy for cable companies! Hate to say it- but this is really only a story because it's Microsoft correct?

Hey just in case I wasn't quite clear- this is a totally new car stereo, not an add on component, so it's probably not that useful to you if you're not in the position to buy a new car stereo!
I've heard of portables that can transmit FM signals though- so they could be used on any FM car stereo (or other system I guess...maybe good for music throughout a house??)...haven't seen one myself yet though!

I have the Jensen MP3510 player in my car- works pretty good; it plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs filled with MP3s...so far so good! Cost me $400 Cdn (hehe including our 15% total tax in Ontario and the adapter parts for a Ford Focus--base price was about $300 Cdn I think).
It also has a handy AUX input (1/8" size earphone jack type), though why I would need it with the MP3 on CD-R is beyond me---but it's nice to have in any case! Also has a remote (again why? but i'm not complaining).
So far i've been pretty happy with the unit. 700MB of MP3 music is actually more music than I have at the moment and the CD-RW thing is handy- takes like 10 mintues for me to adjust the CD and reburn:)
I think we are moving towards at least partial (read: sensible) convergence- I could see features like this on DVD units in the future (actually doesn't the XBox- yeah yeah the satan box I know - have the ability to store some songs for playback during games...or is it the games that are stored so that you can put in your own CDs??).
For now I picked up one of those CD-RW MP3 capable discman (SORRY personal Cd player dealy...don't want to get sued by Sony! hehe it's a Citizen) - is it just me or does *everything* able to read MP3s these days? The discman just hooks up through a standard 1/8" to RCA splitter through it's line out....if only it had a remote!
But it'd be cool to have functionality like this built into my 12.1 Dolby Digital stereo receiver some day in the not to distant future! Although there is something to be said for having different components...
Well I liked some of the different types- Vandal Hearts, King's Field. I remember going through Lunar on Sega and that was kind of cool...but even then it still annoyed me at times:) I finished Phantasy Star 4 as well.
Ugh not looking forward to FFX at all...I couldn't even stand FF7. Well at first it was okay, but the random getting jumped every 2 seconds, combined with slow combat just drives me nuts! The summonings are cool the first dozen times you see them... I think I'm too stuck in my CRPG ways:) Can't wait for Morrowind myself!
How could they miss GTA3? They'd probably have coronaries if they ever saw that game...now I can just see it...oh that's a cool looking driving game..neat! Um did you just hit that person? Those people are all on fire...there's flaming cars everywhere...STOP IT...he's already dead!
hehe...naturally it goes on for a solid hour >:) But seriously folks, these people don't necessarily represent all Christians!
Heh that's what happened to me with Sony Vaio exactly...the thing came with the foil sticker on it that said "Designed for Windows 2000 Professional", so I was like great we'll take this laptop and stick 2K on it later.
No drivers available at this time...few months later, some drivers show up on sony's site. They don't work properly.
Anyways $200 or so and 9 months later the laptop is still on ME which sucks for business use compared to 2K. Hehe I was quite pissed on the phone a few times also.
Rrrrrrrrr....no more vaio's here to say the least!
Anyways off main topic I guess. But a black mark on Sony in this company!
