It is now official - Netcraft has confirmed: *Project Faustus is dying

Yet another crippling bombshell hit the beleaguered *Project Faustus community when recently IDC confirmed that *Project Faustus accounts for less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of the latest Netcraft survey which plainly states that *Project Faustus has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. *Project Faustus is collapsing in complete disarray, as further exemplified by failing dead last [samag.com] in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.

You don't need to be a Kreskin [amdest.com] to predict *Project Faustus's future. The hand writing is on the wall: *Project Faustus faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for *Project Faustus because *Project Faustus is dying. Things are looking very bad for *Project Faustus. As many of us are already aware, *Project Faustus continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood. FreeProject Faustus is the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of its core developers.

Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.

OpenProject Faustus leader Theo states that there are 7000 users of OpenProject Faustus. How many users of NetProject Faustus are there? Let's see. The number of OpenProject Faustus versus NetProject Faustus posts on Usenet is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 NetProject Faustus users. Project Faustus/OS posts on Usenet are about half of the volume of NetProject Faustus posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of Project Faustus/OS. A recent article put FreeProject Faustus at about 80 percent of the *Project Faustus market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 FreeProject Faustus users. This is consistent with the number of FreeProject Faustus Usenet posts.

Due to the troubles of Walnut Creek, abysmal sales and so on, FreeProject Faustus went out of business and was taken over by Project FaustusI who sell another troubled OS. Now Project FaustusI is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house.

All major surveys show that *Project Faustus has steadily declined in market share. *Project Faustus is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If *Project Faustus is to survive at all it will be among OS dilettante dabblers. *Project Faustus continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, *Project Faustus is dead.

    Fact: *Project Faustus is dead

I'd like to celebrate my 0xFFth post by presenting these writings from trollaxor.com

By no means, do I claim to be a master of the art of Trolling, but here are my 2 cents.

Exploring the troll within one's self can be a confusing experience. First, one must recognize the term troll often is used to describe several different style of postings. It can be used in a general sense to describe crapflooding posts, flame-baiting posts, page-tweaking posts (PLP's and PWP's), and true trolls. After one makes the distinction that a more specific definition of "troll" exists, the curious mind must find its meaning. Is a troll simply a post that contradicts popular opinion? Is it a post that gathers many replies? Is it a post that argues a point that you don't really believe? Is it a post that argues for an opinion you don't even understand? Is it a post that is only meant to annoy a large number of people? Or is it a post that is purely intended to encourage real debate? There may be many other possibilities that I haven't considered yet, but these are the ones I can quantify.

These all appear to be valid motives of the many veteran trolls. So, how to you become proficient at this art? Well the following is a quote I found etched within the inner chambers of a 1000 year old temple in Nepal. I share these publicly for the first time, here on Trollaxor.com.

It seems one must have a well defined perception of their own beliefs, and then be able to dis-prove them all... in ones mind, build an undeniable proof of a fact, and then be able to prove it fiction... understand ones audience, their weaknesses, their strengths, what irritates them, what they believe as holy truth... one must be resourceful with their research on issues they don't completely understand, and be able to project confidence in the knowledge they find...

One must become Tuan-chi Muho. Find your beliefs and remove your mind's limitation to only believing that single thought path, then understand all other possible thought paths... understanding the individual has the ability to choose any of these paths, but chooses not to limit one's thoughts by only exploring a single path. One must be able to take these insights and use them against their foes.

    Go forth now... and troll.

Why can't folks like you figure it out that not everyone wants to study the internal workings of obscure OS's. That has nothing to do with stupidity. Do you think most people who use windows even know a definition of "Operating System"? No! Because they don't need to and shouldn't have to! The interface is intuitive enough so that people can quickly figure out how to do what they want to do, move on and be productive. Learning thousands of rediculous shell commands with all their options is not intuitive and makes people become distracted from what they want to use their PC's for. Hacking config files, compiling software, unsucessfully hunting for apps with well thought out user interfaces... these are things that drive away linux users. Look at this story!
