    This is slashdot, so sweeping generalizations are to be expected, but that's just silly. Even when solid state amps were new they were used on records, and they've certainly come a long way since then. The Roland Jazz Chorus is one of the best amps ever made and it's not tube.
    These days, a lot of people record with a small SS practice amp or just direct-in. Then apply effects in the box or re-amp the signal through different rigs to see what they can get. If it sounds good, it sounds good; it doesn't have to be, and sure as hell isn't required to be, tube.

    For gas station joe, everything after the first cup sold is profit. I'm sure the big chains have much higher numbers.
    Besides, many folks don't go buy coffee, they go buy Dunkin Donuts(tm) coffee. Can't do much undercutting when you're not selling the same product.

    Corn lobby is pretty big, they're probably worried about people trying to avoid HFCS and started looking for other revenue streams.
    I'm extremely confused why this is at all an issue. The Big Three all have current diesel tech or connections with companies with diesel engines. Japanese and European manufacturers almost universally offer diesels outside of the US. There would be no need to retool infrastructure or build a new fuel distribution system.
    Why aren't we all driving diesels or small displacement turbo petrol cars? It seems to work everywhere else.

    This is actually for noobs. Noobs who want cheap gaming from their Dell instead of a GMA.
    I imagine the next step that will actually make a difference to AMD's marketshare will be the laptop version, since intel pitsgraphics are still very common in portables. This is all good for AMD; OEMs are where big money is, not us geeks buying parts on newegg.
