Hell, you can get a purpose-built-for-education Dell 2100 starting at $369. That's retail, I'm sure the school could work out a bit of a discount on top of that. For the money you get a more rugged machine than the macbook. The options are better too, touchscreen, carrying handle, charging cart capable, antimicrobial coating, you can even get it with linux! I'm not affiliated with dell in any way, they're just sweet little machines.
Fail? I don't know about that. My ten+ year old Palm has one of the best reading screens I've seen, outside of the Pixel Qi. If modern monochrome LCD bests it then I think that's awesome. Why not use it?
Hell no they're not. In the wonderful commonwealth of massachusetts, not only do fuel taxes go into the general fund, RMV revenues do, too. The same RMV which is, afaik, the only state agency that sees massive profi^Wsurplus. The same RMV that has cut services and locations this year. Roads are a complete mess pretty much statewide, the big dig was a massive boondoggle and, for some reason, the mass pike is still a toll road. The problem with legally binding taxes to something is that politicians write the laws.
It's macabre but this is the truest statement of any kind you could make about Apple right now. I don't think anyone has the insight or the stones to take over after Jobs is gone.
It's even worse than that, one of my old favourites has gone down the tubes pretty quickly. WHDH-7 will now show video from damn near anywhere if something is on fire or there's an animal loose. It's like a parody of those "When foo attacks" shows, but sold as news.
Not until they start putting real controls on their products. Being able to play games for longer than a couple hours would help too. I don't see either happening any time soon.
I was a subscriber to basic but they kept moving channels I watched to digital-only, meaning I needed to rent a box to watch them. Then when they kept replacing those, now, empty channels with shopping, religious and spanish-language stations I dropped it. All the content I wanted is available OTA or on the net so, I'm missing nothing. I'm certainly not missing the monthly bill. If they offered digital tuners for free or, even better, had ala carte plans, I'd come back. It'll never happen though.
Graffiti 1 is, imo, still the best quick way to get text into a portable device. I'd take even G2 but no one will license the damn thing. With all the MIDs and Windows tablets getting cheaper and cheaper, I wish someone would port it. I'm sick of on-screen keyboards.
As a fellow resident of Mass, I doubt this *one* farm will be finished by the year 2500. Big Wind? Wild Wind? Whatever pet name it finally gets, it's going to be a massive hackorama that misses every mark and goes ridiculously overbudget. I'm thrilled, too!
...supposedly tastes much better than the HFCS version.
Oh it does. If you're old enough to remember getting your thirst quenched by original coke at first sip on a hot summer day, it's basically the same as you remember. I almost wonder if the reason people have gone from sharing a 12oz bottle to chugalugging 1l bottles is that corn syrup soft drinks do nothing to thirst. Anyway, hooray for passover! L'Chaim!
I was hoping 3D would kind of peter out in a couple years but it's getting ridiculous. As a man-child who hates change, the Nintendo handhelds have been the last bastion of sprite-based gaming for me. As a cyclops who doesn't see in 3D anyway, I have no interest in the gimmick. Don't you do this to me Nintendo!:(
I know it's just DICE being DICE but for all the whining there was about no dedicated servers, myself included, MW2 has been a much more stable and smooth game for me. It's kind of depressing.
I can only speak for us massholes, but the state government here has made driving a, let's say, well-loved vehicle damn near impossible. Inspections are every year and more stringent than ever. There aren't any "friendly" inspection stations that make sure your lights, brakes and radio work and then send you on your way. Your inspector, inspection, title and insurance are all linked at the RMV now, as well. So, the old trick of picking up a beater with a recent sticker doesn't work. I've been in financial dire straights and driven some $50 specials in the past that simply wouldn't be allowed on the road these days. Expensive gas and part-stripping has completely drove up the prices of 80s/90s econoboxes too. Used to be able to find beat up civics/tercels/cavs for 500-1000, I don't see them for less than ~2k anymore.
I know Syncrosoft makes a software dongle product called iKey (steinberg user~). I'm not sure how far reaching their mark is registered for, but I can't imagine legal sitting still with the potential for an out-of-court settlement from apple.
How much is really being saved by not having linkages to the throttle body? How many more models and manufacturers are going to be affected by funky electronic throttle controllers? What the hell happens when the pots get dirty?
I don't even bother with the current crop. I'm still using a Treo650 and will probably just buy another one when it dies. The Palm PIMs are still my favourite, I don't have any problems syncing over usb or IP. It's, of course, not as sexy or connected as current smartphones but I don't want a toy. I've already got a DS.
I don't trust Palm not to screw this product up
As a longtime palm user, I don't blame you. I'm amazed they're still around. Technological pros/cons aside- someone needs to fire whatever marketing genius was behind the Pre name and campaign.

It's not exactly a perfect nor complete solution, but this has sure made win7 a lot more bearable for me.

At least now there's RASSLIN'

I got a chance to see some of his work at a show in Amherst, MA. He really is a fine photographer, I went in not expecting much.
Will massive beer consumption save the Aussie populace!?
There's more than one song on the album?
I know this is slashdirt and NO FUN ALLOWED, but I was ripping on him for being vegan not a cancer survivor. He's been gaunt for a while.
More like gaunt. Someone get Steve a steak and some poutine or something, damn.

Have you played any EA games this century? While I'm enjoying their current paid beta, they've been at it for a while.

Stay frosty.
