Interesting enough, I just read an article on how getting more sun is proving to be extremely beneficial, and that a lot of the cardiac issues darker skins folks have are likely caused by their skin blocking the sun!

It appears that the risk of death by skin cancer for too much sun is overwhelmed by the risk of cardiac issues from too little.

Money quotes "People with low levels of vitamin D in their blood have significantly higher rates of virtually every disease and disorder you can think of: cancer, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, heart attack, stroke, depression, cognitive impairment, autoimmune conditions, and more." and "Yet vitamin D supplementation has failed spectacularly in clinical trials ... it showed zero benefit"

It isn't about power, it's about friction on the wheels. If the two vehicles have roughly the same friction coefficient, the Tesla wins because it is heavier. It also has higher starting torque, but that doesn't actually matter because the truck's wheels will be free-spinning while it is dragged forward.

    You are obviously under 30.

When you get to be 40, see of you still believe that.

In my case, I lost the ability to walk or perform almost any exercise for 20 years (ages 19-41). I gained a moderate amount of weight, but nearly constant dieting kept me below 290 lbs. Then I finally had a doctor that fixed what was wrong with me, and I started exercising. (My first exercise: slow the rate of fall as you slide down a wall, I kid you not)

Upon exercising (and being 40), I gained weight. I only eat 1 time a day, just to maintain. I work out heavily (extremely motivated!), and am constantly exercising.

My point: not everyone is like you, so stop acting like a butt.

  15. Re:Gut reaction before reading the article or summ on Why It's Easier To Make Decisions For Someone Else (hbr.org) · · Score: 2

    Um, utterly wrong.

In "normal" human societies (as in, non modern ones) females vastly outnumber males. Males are born at a slightly higher rate, but die much faster. There are always enough women to go around, in fact, there are too many.

This explains a lot of evolutionary biology - height differences, muscle mass differences, women being bi-sexual and lesbian at a higher rate than males, the male tendency to increase in violence until a "positive" sexual outcome, and polygamous relationships.

I think a lot of the marriage/dating/whatever issues we have in society now can be traced back to the change in male survival rates.

(I also think that China and India are in for some bad times due to too many males relative to females)

This is incorrect. Uranium is approximately as renewable as solar.

The sun will eventually go out, after consuming most of its fuel. You could say we will be dead by then, but we actually have enough uranium in the Earth to last the same amount of time. So they both get "used up" at about the same time.

Also, once the sun is gone a new star will likely eventually be formed. So the sun is actually "renewable". But in a similar way, the old sun's final moments will likely produce more uranium than was ever used on Earth. So uranium is just as renewable as solar.

(And since wind power is really just extremely inefficiently harvested solar power, it has the same issue with the word "renewable")

So you can get a lot more detail there for free, essentially.
