OpenID is normally pretty simple but it seems MAKE's implementation is totally borked. A lot of sites make it really easy by giving you a list of OpenID URLs to pick from, for example StackOverflow does this, http://stackoverflow.com/users/login.
Since your Google profile IS an OpenID you can just put your profile URL into the login box, http://www.google.com/profiles/yourusername. If you don't trust the website with your profile URL Google also provides a redirector that works as an OpenID at https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id.
From the ctunnel website: "Because government subpenoa could require us to hand over our server access logs, access logs are regularly deleted to protect your privacy. "
This guy is a dick because he should have deleted his logs right away when he first caught wind of the Palin thing. Instead he waited for the FBI to call him and threaten him not to delete the logs before they got a subpoena.
Actually, I always wonder, why keep logs at all?
Considering how paper has proven itself as a storage medium over millenia, why hasn't somebody come up with a mechanism for storing digital data on paper to be read later by a scanner?
If you consider an 8x11" page and a 1200dpi printer, you could store 253MB on a single double sided page, 126GB in a 500 page 'book'. You would probably need to develop a special printer and scanner system, it would be expensive, and the 'access time' would probably be slow, but it would last for ages, unless barbarians burn down your library.
The attitude of all you LAN Admins in here really pisses me off, "it's easy, lock 'em down, don't give 'em admin, take away all their PC privilages". It's easy for you to say, you have admin! You can install any software you need.
I wonder how much productivity you lock-'em-down admins are costing the economy as a whole. You wanna know something? LAN administration isn't the most important part of a company, you aren't making the company any money. Your job is to help us users be more productive in doing our job, it isn't to cause you the least hassle.
How does it help the company when everytime I need to install some software to do my job I have to call you up and waste a couple of days for it to get aproved by the all-mighty-admin? How does it help the company when I can't immediately respond to a customer!?
OK, so there are stupid users, but I don't care about them, they don't affect me, I'm just trying doing my job. Leave me alone god damnit!
This is really good stuff. They've got the 6 most popular plugins covered: - Adobe Reader - Java Plugin - Macromedia Flash Player - Macromedia Shockwave Player - QuickTime
Real is missing, but Windows Media Player is slowly overtaking Real. If Microsoft doesn't cooperate alternative brosers won't have a chance. The web still "won't work" on the alternative browsers unless WMA can be seamslesly incorporated.
The trick to using Real's player is to stick with an older version. The older versions don't have the spyware or popup "messages" and all the other crap. Personally I stick with version 7, i've never had any problems with it.
Paul Graham's ideas have undergone a lotofimprovements. Some of the best improvements and tweaks have been implemented by the SpamBayes project. Their Outlook plugin makes Outlook the best spam solution that I have seen (better than SpamAssasin).
I don't know if it will help, but you can vote for the bug to improve Mozilla's spam algorithm.
I've been seriously considering shorting some SCOX stock, but Microsoft has me worried.
SCOX is up over 2000% in the last year. It seems inevitable that after the insane hype dies out the bottom will eventually drop out. But if M$ keeps pumping them with cash maybe the price will stay up.
What do you think?
I'm supposed to feel sorry for these multinational media conglomerates? Screw them!
I pay $50 a month to watch TV. I don't know anybody that gets their TV 100% free. We all pay too much money already, and they keep hiking the rates!
"But", you say, "those are different companies, cable and TV".
The cable companies are monopolies, they should be regulated, put price controls and make 'em give some of the money to the TV people.
What about user ratings for the content, a la slashdot?
I can think of all kinds of good things that could derive from that. If you could do a search based on the ratings you might be able to find new music you like. Maybe they could develop a list like amazon's "users who downloaded this also downloaded...". It could allow the growth of grassroots supports for bands.
Too bad Fastrack is more concerned about developing spyware than with coming out with cool new features.

If this shell lets me widen it to more than 80 characters I'll be happy. Nothing, not even cygwin, let's me do that on any Windows.
If this is true I'm kinda sad about it.
Without blackholes we lose all kinds of fun possibilities. No wormholes or time travel or moving to other dimensions.
Astro-physics loses a lot of romanticisim.
sad
Just thought I'd plug my company.
I work for Intelsat, a satellite communications provider. They are providing free satellite service to the UN for establishing field offices.
I uploaded it here

SpamBayes works REALLY well for me.
What's really funny is that a search for XFree69 now returns a link to this article! Cool
You won't find the older players by navigating their website, you just have to know the link http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html

Here's a good overview of the new features in 2.6.
You're never going to use that crap again. And even if you wanted to, you won't be able to find it when you need it.

How can you possibly compare 15th century thinking with 20th century thinking?
Those centuries are called the 'dark ages' for a reason.
Prosecute the advertisers.

Could the "mysterious force" just be friction? Deep space isn't a perfect vacuum, there are thin gasses.
I had never heard about corn. Sounds interesting. Do you have any further information or links about this?

The real real question:
How does the Bush administration use this to take away more of our rights?
