This has been a problem for at least 20 years. My own experience has been that after age 45 I couldn't get interviews for jobs I could do in my sleep. At 66 I haven't had a job in high tech for ten years. I'd point to a lot of high tech firms but I'd like to single out IBM for being the worst of the worst. Not only do they practice active ageism and H1B preferences but they are the absolute worst corporate neighbor. I live in a town with a 400,000 sq ft IBM facility. To get in they squeezed the town on taxes, contribute almost nothing to the local economy, contribute nothing to the schools or community around them and even refuse to allow such things as a Sunday Farmers market on their 300-acre parking lot that's mostly empty even on weekdays. If they went out of business and the building returned to an active farm it would contribute more to the town.
It should be noted that ALL manned flights by NASA had the same cryogenic propellants: liquid oxygen and either Kerosine or liquid hydrogen. Lots of them exploded before attempting a manned flight.
Back in the late 1960's, I had the pleasure of working on the IBM VM/CMS OS development. My boss kept changing the password for developer access without telling anyone (She worked 9-5, I worked 3-11). I got fed up so I embedded "Fake0ut" in the OS as a password I could use to get around her changes.
Then I took it one step further. Whenever anyone logged in I would generate a random number and roughly once in a hundred logins the response would be "The phantom speaks," and they'd be logged out. Ten years later, 1975ish, I had the opportunity to test my password. It was still there.
I suspect some programmer took great pleasure in making Alexia laugh and even greater pleasure in hiding the code. I love it.
Microsoft is going to lose big time here. The forced conversion to Windows 10 crashed all 10 desktop systems and an expensive server.Dell refused to back us up on these systems. As a result, Dell and Microsoft have been banned from the building and we are now going through a very expensive conversion to Linux servers and Apple on the desktop. May you rot in hell Dell and Microsoft.
I always thought that the TV channels sell ads by eyeballs. Retransmitting a signal only increases the number of eyeballs. Hell I know Comcast used to demand payment from smaller channels (like the Golf channel) because of that while the majors demanded payment.
I am beginning to think that an ALL Internet business model based on the sale of eyeballs has got to be the future and that, like the recording industry, the major networks will fade into oblivion. I hope.
If you have an iPhone you need to go to settings -> Messages and turn on "Send as SMS." The comment says, "Send as SMS when "iMessage is unavailable." The default (at least on my phone - ATT) is off.
ISP's should be classified as nothing more than common carriers, just like the phone system. Imagine your local phone company throttling your voice communications to some company because they wanted to blackmail that company into paying more to connect.
I pay for a certain bandwidth. Netflex also pays for a certain bandwidth. Verizon may have a legitimate claim that they are carrying more bandwidth than they are delivering to AWS. The conflict is between AWS and Verizon since Netflex is already paying AWS for bandwidth.
If it ain't broke why fix it? The only thing I can suggest is a thumbs up or down button. That might be a small bit better than the current system.... but not really.
I've said for years that I have a steel trap mind, I remember everything. Unfortunately, eventually the pores in that trap become full and data starts overflowing without sticking. I need a pill to selectively forget stuff that's now useless like how to code in Fortran and COBOL or who pitched in the 1972 World Series.
Indeed this is very old news. My 30 year old daughter is a type 1 diabetic. It was well known 25 years ago that coxsackie viruses are associated with type 1 diabetes. Specifically coxsackie viruse 23b if memory serves me correctly. It's called baby measles and all kids get it. Get one version of coxsackie and it's believed that you are immune from the rest. At least that was the state of diabetes research 25 years ago.
If you calculate the Schwarzschild radius of the suspected mass of the universe you get a radius that's roughly 7 billion light years which says that we are indeed inside a black hole. Now will someone explain to me how the big bang worked again?
Yet the system failed to detect Snowden. I'm guessing that they have the problem of having way too much information and little ability to analyze it. When you think about it they have missed quite a lot in the past few years.
I'm proud of my daughter who has the gumption to leave the US with no intention of returning. I'm proud of my sister and her kids who walked into the consulate in Alberta Canada and renounced their American Citizenship.
Reminds me of a confused Brit who was asked when he applied for US Citizenship 50 years ago, "Do you advocate the overthrow of the US government by force or violence?" He thought for a moment then answered, "Violence I suppose."
If I remember correctly, Nixon made the Social Security Administration invest in U.S. government securities then deducted the difference from the National Debt making it appear smaller than it was. Hyper inflation is the only way out of this problem historically.

I used to replace Cisco switches with throwaway Celetron PC's and cheap ethernet cards. They worked just fine and cost almost nothing.
Whatever happened to the low power stations, under 5 watts, that were promised in the '90's?

I hope it can be set up to say, "Backoff asshole - stop tailgating."

Bazinga!

As soon as businesses realize that a standing clerk requires less space they will jump on it.
If there is such a thing as justifiable homicide I would think this falls into the category of justifiable wiretapping.
Cops and other people in authority wonder why they aren't liked.
Geesh!

Is it me or did the summary say nothing meaningful in English? I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what he said.

With this law we wouldn't have Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. On the other hand - this is a good law.
I once got hired by an Ohio State PhD who said that if I was smart enough to drop out of MIT I was smart enough to work for him.
With luck this will end the vampire book and movie genre as we know it. Expect kinder and gentler vampires from now on. -SG

In other words: If a foo shits in the woods and there is no one there to smell it, it didn't happen.

It's time for a second American Revolution.
