  1. Gamespot Pics... on Phantom Releases, Retracts Game List, Debut Rated · · Score: 2, Interesting

Those pics from Gamespot of the console case could be slightly fake. They don't look very well made (when was the last time you saw rivets on the outside of you connectors like those USB ports?) and while it does have some impressive video out options, that power plug is INSANE looking. I dunno if I should plug it into it's power cord or if I should plug in my 220v clothes dryer into it. Only time I've seen cables like that was when I was a lighting/sound guy for a concert group at my University.

Plus I'm thinking this thing will have a DOS/Windows wrapper so you can drop it PC games and have it work...that's why there's so many games on that list that are so old. Hmmm. I still won't buy the piece of shit, I just find it slightly interesting following this thing travel downward in a spiral likened to that of a toilet flushing...

I find Winamp 5's Music Library feature to be quite nice at exactly that. It's well layed out, and you can rip and burn from it as well. You can set up "watched directories" so once it sees a new file it's automatically added to the library, and if the tagging isn't 100%, it'll attempt to figure out the information from the file name, a handy feature indeed. My ONLY problem is that it can't sync with iPod. I think I would truly die and go to heaven if it did that...

Well, I bought a Powerbook G4 (550Mhz with Gigabit Ethernet, so I guess that makes it 2nd gen) in December of 2001. One time (under the 1 year warranty) the hinge was slightly borked so I called up, told em whats wrong. They next day aired me a box with foam and all. I NDA'ed it back, and got it back 2 days later. Figuring that the warranty was worth it (especially for laptops. I can't just spend the $60 on a new sound card if it dies, etc.) I bought the AppleCare before my one year expired. I've brought it back twice and have been treated with nothing but respect. First time was due to a nasty little overheating problem it had (the fans weren't comming on.) and I brought it back for the same reason again last week (yes, it's slightly irritating to have the same problem twice, but it just could be the way I'm treating it, and since they get it back to me in 4 days I have no problem.) The first time I brought it back for the overheating problem, my powerbook had a bunch of scratches and nicks in the paint from two years of service, as well as the paint flaking problem. They replaced almost every external panel making it look brand new. I really can't complain, and in fact I'm getting a new 15 powerbook for my birthday in a few months. I called to check on it's status on Sunday and I have to say they were nicer to me than my ubernice aunt who tries to spoil me. I find with a lot of companies that you're treated as well as you treat them. Show some understanding and don't scream at them and they'll try their best to make you happy. I've yet to be shown otherwise, with the exception of Sprint's wireless representatives. Oy.

so everything you buy is supposd to last until the end of time? And when did a one year warranty (which is standard but can be extended a la every other laptop place in the world) mean it should work for ever? The longest laptop warranty I've seen is 5 years from Dell. Clearly they're not meant to last much longer if that. And yes, your Mac SE works fine, but there is a magnitude or two of complexity of difference in engineering and precision between the SE and your Apple laptop.

A very original FPS, it has cell shaded graphics and low poly counts, so it's very easy on the computer. It has an interesting story line and has many novel things that give it "comic book charm" such as instead of hearing footsteps around a corner you see "TAP! TAP!" through the wall. That and if you headshot someone with a sniper rifle a 3-panel strip fires across the screen in real-time showing you the results. The story line is interesting and the game plays very well. Highly recommended.

I've had the Nokia 3650 for about two months now. It's an amazing device and if you go to a place thats willing to wheel and deal (like I did) you can end up with the phone for $25 after rebate (yes, twenty five.) There is currently a $150 rebate through T-Mobile on the phone and I was able to talk the places down to $175 from the T-Mobile price of $300 (and T-Mobile is a great service provider as well, I've been using them for over two years now and I've yet to have a problem (with the exception of my first phone with them, the T68m but that wasn't their fault and they were still quick to make things better for me)

Ok, so now I'll run down on the phone itself...

104Mhz StrongARM processor with 4MB of RAM. (Cause every geek loves those stats...)

A very large fairly high resolution screen that fares VERY well in sunlight and any light situation. It's backlit, but only a slight lowering of contrast occurs in sunlight.

The camera that is built in is of amazing quality for a camera and one of the best I've seen. It also records video but it's not as usefull, as the resolution is only 320x240 and the quality is horrible. Good for BS clips but nothing fancy. The camera has actually gotten me rave reviews on my photography skills (more than a regular camera). The two following links are directories full of pictures and videos I've taken with my phone, feel free to browse them at your leisure.
Pictures of the beach by my house
Pictures of the recent snow storm at Rutgers Uni.

Being a Symbian OS based device there's TONS of programs for it, ranging from MP3 players (I used it once, not bad, but I prefer my iPod) to Game Boy Emulators (nothing like playing Mario Bros 1 in class) to usefull applications like file browsers, to Doom! (doom links: here and here) Plus its easy to get files onto the phone be it through bluetooth, infared or taking out the phones 16MB MMC card and putting it on there via flash card reader.

Ringtones for the phone are MIDI files so it's easy to find your favorite song or write your own and place it on the phone.

iSync is supported with the phone, as well as other nifty Mac bluetooth programs such as Salings Clicker which lets you controll your mac from your cellphone. Good for controlling iTunes (I have it set so it plays my music when it sees my phone so I come home to my favorite music) and can be used to control DVD Player or Quicktime, and can be set to perform AppleScripts...

Yes. the circular keypad is odd. It took me about a week to get used to it. After a month and a half with the phone, I'm back up to my previous typing speed on the T68i (I can go faster tho, as Nokia's predictive text is much faster than SE's...) and the only time it's a slight problem is when I'm inebriated, but even then all skillsets go to zero, so it's no so much the phone's fault. :) I put all my numbers into the phone book anyways so I rarely dial numbers.

Battery life and size: The phone is slightly larger than other phones, yes. But after all the times I spent digging in the tinest little crevaces of car seats, classrooms, and dorm rooms looking for the phone, a larger phone is appreciated. Plus it leaves room for a larger battery and antenna (and that's another thing. The 3650 has fantastic reception abilities and some have claimed it has the best of any Nokia phone to date.) and it just feels like less of a toy than other phones. I take pictures all the time and have many 5-10 minutes phone calls a day. I have to charge the phone every 3-4 days, but I just keep it on a car charger when I drive and when I sleep its in the charger, but you can get away with forgetting to once in a while with no worries (plus the batteries are the same as the N-G

Meanwhile a computer screen has no blur, its pretty much a slideshow on crack. Therefore human eyes on a "digital" display media need 60fps to see smooth continuous motion. Or at least that's how it was explained to me years ago when people were complaining why does it matter if this card can do 100FPS in quake 2 and this other can do 120 when 60 is all you can see.
