Funny, the doctor at the hospital told me it was the alcohol bubbling up and being forced out of her body by the stomach. And that was the only thing she drank. Of course perhaps someone slipped her a roofie or something, the house party I was at WAS full of sleaze and I wasn't in the room with her. All I know is that she was in the bathroom foamed at the mouth and guys were trying to keep her there.
When Carmack retires, I'm going to wear all black and act like I'm in a funeral procession. Why? Cause the man has been my God since lessee....5TH GRADE (junior in college now) and when he goes there won't be anyone with his magic touch to replace him. Sweeny's UT2003 engine work was nice, but I dont feel he's up to innovating something like a Doom3 level engine. The closest I figure will be the guys writing the Source engine at Valve. Without Carmack FPSes are gonna SUCK.
I've seen people go into FITS from drinking everclear. That shit's only good for two things. Killing brain cells and setting on fire. Only thing I've seen do worse to a person is that MD 20/20 stuff. Had to carry a friend that was foaming at the mouth cause she drank too much of it to the hospital 8 blocks down the road...
So you're admitting that "Hey, I might have raised a little dirtbag, so I'm going to compensate by pissing them off even MORE and making them hate me."
My parents followed me ONCE and ONLY once the second week I had my car. I saw them driving behind me when I was driving myself and friends to the movies. I can assure you when I went home afterwards, me and my parents had a long talk and it never happened again. Why? Because I paid for my car, it was in MY name, *I* paid the insurance on it, and I'll damn well do what I want with it. I respect my parents and god dammit they're going to respect me. I think if you put this on your kid's phone (and they're over say...14) you show you obviously have no respect for them, and they'll resent you for it. And your kids will learn a nice little trick with this one...turning the phone off. Then what? Be that "lunatic parent" and hunt your kid down when he doesnt show up on radar? Hoooo yeah. Glad I'm not your kid.
If I can't take left turns how the fuck did I get to work this morning!? (after consideration, it is LITERALLY impossible to get to my job using only right turns)
As a proud owner of a Powerbook G4, I can say two things about Gentoo with it.... 1) The drivers for the video card/LCD controller. Hah good luck. And 2) KDE with one mouse button is teh sux0r.
not neccessarily true. I go to Rutgers and while I did get a discount throught RU's computer store it certianly didnt get it for free (but I did save something on the order of $300. Apple is very good to those loyal to them. Edu discounts are usually better than other vendors and the developer dicounts are INSANE. You can get the low end G5 for $1500 when you're a registered developer (which I am:-D)
I can see him as president now:
American People: "Now don't kill anyone, ok?"
President: "Ah-firmative."
*France gets surly*
*President shoots France in the kneecaps*
American People: "I TOLD YOU NOT TO KILL ANYONE!!!"
President: "He'll live."
Thats IT!!! THATS why Duke Nukem Forever hasnt come out yet! Those sneaky developers. Always one step ahead of the man. Take THAT corperate dress code!!!....orrrrr I'm just bitter about my current coding job...
piracy prevention system. Release software thats an 80GB INSTALL. Not that its neccessarily a bad thing, as FCP4 is really like 4 programs in one, but who has the bandwidth and patience let alone the HARD DRIVE space to use that. I'm going to have to get an external firewire had drive for my powerbook g4 just so I can run it...
Well, thats one difference, yes. But I've used both, and can honestly say gentoo is EXTREMELY well made. say I don't know a package name... gentoo -s suddently every package that has it in the name and description come up. Wanna see what will be made if you emerge it w/o actually doing it? emerge -p (the p is for pretend). Yes. It takes a while, but the speed increase is worth it. Debian you have to go through all sorts of menus and stuff, when everything can be done from the command line with gentoo (I'm sure you can with apt-get and dpkg and such, but gentoo is just more logical and "uncluttered" I guess you could say... but then again everyone has their own preferences, thus the great thing about choice. Now we have debian OR emerge to try. Once they get the FreeBSD ports going full swing I think I'm gonna die and go to heaven.:)
Thats like saying "Oh, this virus that has the potential for taking down every major computing service on the face of the planet, but it's under the GPL so it's a Paladin compared to that black knight of an OS whose source is closed." Give me a fucking break. Companies need to make money. Very few companies (especially game companies) have found a way to be profitable using open source. Take Loki Games. They made some great games, but they died, because few people bought them. Valve releases the content code so you can make things like Counter-Strike. You can make new games with the game they made, but you can't touch the engine. I think thats pretty fair. id software releases their older games to public under GPL. Thats mighty nice of them. Think you can make something better than half-life, open souce, and make enough money to devote your life to it? Then fire up your editor of choice and prove me wrong. Yes open source is all well and good, but until a paradyme shift occurs (both on the business end and on the users end) I don't see open source prevailing as well as closed source. Most open source advocates think that free as in speech go hand in hand with free as in beer, and thats where the problem lies. They don't want to pay because they're used to the word free so it makes things automatically equate with zero price. Perhaps we should call it "Liberated Source" or "Disclosed Source" or "Buy me and get the code" source.
*shrug* My two cents, I could be wrong, but so can you so think that one out before you mod me.
Well, there were two game novelizations I liked a LOT. One was based off the Doom series. As far as I know, it was a 4 book saga. The first two covered Doom 1 and 2 (respectively) the other two went on some acid trip of a plot about mormons and aliens called "Freds" so I stick with just the two. The Resident Evil books have shown unwaivering quality in their writing, even the ones where the authors made up their own plot not existing in one of the games. The odd numbered ones tend to be the ones on games and the evens are non-game plots, but still good. I still would like to see a book based off of System Shock 2...
Not sure if it's changed since I took a stab at programming for the Palm platform, but there's no RAM/ROM division like PocketPCs/PocketLinux PDAs. Programs are run straight from the storage memory, no RAM needed.
Well, I may just be cynical but whats something MS would be pushing for with hardware and something thats key to their plans to the point they'd kiss another comapanies ass for? It can be summed up with one word. Paladium. (Or whatever the hell it's called. I could care less. If I can't use a PC without it asking someone else "Is it ok for them to do this?" then its time I go all-Apple. I'm impressed with my Powerbook G4 and their desktops are getting more affordable...)
For those of you bitching about the price...if you get those nice fancy weather resistant rubber-this and padded-that they can easily cost $80-100. If you want your iPod to be right at your touch, but dont want it to be easily lost, stolen, or broken, this is a nice thing for only $100 more. I have a fairly nice MiniDisc player that I listen to when I talk to class at Rutgers. I leave the player in my pants pocket and have the remote clipped to my backpack strap, but even thats too conspicuous. This someone will just see headphones and no interaction for me, so they'll have no idea what I have, and if I'm walking in a bad part of town at dark, no one will be inclined to mug me for my $400 toy cause they wont know if it's a $400 iPod or a $2 FM radio
My friend got the T68m about a year ago. I heard some good and some bad about the phone so I waited about 2 months to see how his was. He didn't have any major problems at all, so I went ahead and bought one too. Some sales people tried to talk me out of the T68 saying they were recalled, tried to sell me other phones (some crappy little motorola that looked like it belongs in a Fischer Price toy set) and I finally found a guy willing to sell (and for $150 mind you!) so I bought it and haven't had many problems. My original T68 died about a month ago.(I think I dropped it too many times) so I sent it back to T-Mobile. They sent me a new one, but it was locked to a certain SIM and there was no way to unlock it. They sent me another one and I'm back in business. I like the phone, and T-Mobile's customer service is way better than Sprint's. Unfortunately it depends on which one you get. One woman told me I should get a Nokia with Cingular if I want to get better service. I hung up, called again, got someone different, told them what the woman said, and I was 2 months of service and got a free upgrade to a T68i. I'm happy with it, although those new Nokia's are miiiiiight tempting...:)
True but the theory is that since YOU pick the songs you're not getting the filler crap when all you want of an album is 2 songs. Say you have about 7 albums where you only like 2 songs on each. Combine all 14 onto ONE CD and you have a CD with all the songs you WANT to hear and you've paid for it fair and square, no reason to bitch when they go after pirators. To me, that sounds reasonable. The only reason I haven't paid for most of the CDs I've owned is because I'm not paying $17 for TWO SONGS. If I hear more than a third of the CD that I like, I then proceed to buy it. Unfortunately that doesn't happen often.
Actually if you talk to Microsoft it's a "platform" We all know it's a OS (If you install Linux on an iPaq, is it no longer a pocket pc? does it magically lose it's ability to fit in your pocket?) but for ignorant marketroids, it's another "bonus" when you buy it.
Dude, this IS a G4 iBook. Seriously. I wouldnt be surprized if it used the same basic frame. Go to a store that sells the iBook and this new powerbook. They're IDENTICAL. I was walking around the store and couldn't tell the difference until I got up close.
I bought a 940c a year ago when I first moved into my dorm room, and thought it was the greatest printer ever. Thanks to this post I find out there was a recall on my power cord for it! At least they're sending them out free with no shipping costs to us. Mine should be here in two weeks at most HP says. Thanks to whoever posted this, you saved my printer!

it's quite easy really...just hide the Guiness.

If memory serves, they film at 60 or 90 to make the slow motion more flowing and natural.
They already do. Ever price out an Itanium? My student loans pale in comparison :)
