also your conclusion shouldn't be that money != happiness, it should be that generaly the more you make at your job the less likely you are to like it, your personal life may be very happy, which is the definition that counts for 99% of people ;)

And on rats lol, so you put a shaver on a rat, wouldn't that be like having an 8 foot shaver on a human if scaled to size? 10. Uphill battle, support the USA on Xbox for $99? Xbox 2 in 2005? · · Score: 1

They should just give them away with a game purchase. MS doesn't care what they lose on the consol, its all about preparing for the next gen release. Its definelty an uphill battle against the PS2 for the XBOX, but if they keep beating them on hardware, its only a matter of time before XBOX has just as good if not better game base than the PS2. And thats when they will start dominating.

Another thing I get really pissed off about is people in the USA hate MS and the XBOX just because they are MS. Well I don't agree with a lot that MS does and doesn't do, but people WAKE UP, it's far better to line the pockets of Bill G than some Japanese fat cat, so buy and support XBOX, not PS2 :D

  11. please no pops on Commercials Come To The Net (After This Word) · · Score: 1

I don't mind advertising, well I do but I can put up with it. What I hate is when they force the user to deal with them outside of the media they are supporting. For example there are magazine ads, bus ads, television ads, etc, but does a magazine ad magically litter your room with more maganizes which are full ad books? No, they include them in the publication, this is exactly what a pop up or under is for the web.

Advertising should strictly stick to only on page ads which are fluid with the media they are supporting, I think people understand and appreciate this much more than popped ads. Besides their revolutionary unblockable technology will only be a matter of a few days before its blockable, so whats the point, just make regular ads people if you have to make them.

  16. NO GOOD, WE ALL LOSE on Attacking the Spammer Business Model · · Score: 1

although this sounds like a good idea at first, it is not, yes most people would like to fight fire with fire, but in this case we all end up losing, why?

well for starters now instead of 40% internet traffic being spam, we up it to 80% since now we are responding with spam, slowing our internet down even further.

second of all most spam doesn't even have a valid reply address to send anything to, wasn't sent from a valid server, and might not even contain a url in the message to get at.

next up the spammers themselves could use the 'remailers' to send spam to us, so now you have a system just sending itself spam in effect, lol.

lastly we are not directly effecting the spammer, they will just grease their response mechanizm to take into account the replies, plus if we can't even make software that filters spam, why would be able to make software that auto replies to it correctly, so now everyone sending emails will get some spam reply by accident.

there's very few ways spam will ever end. a whole new email protocol is what we really need, but who knows when that will happen. fines, suits, and laws will have to save us in the short term, or we could just cut off the spammers ball sacs, i prefer the latter ;|

With performance increases of new CPUs getting smaller and smaller these days, tweaking is almost pointless (ie getting a P4 2.6 to 3.0 is a far cry from the old days of getting a P2 300 to 900) so noise is a huge factor for most and justly looked at. Especially since cpus now dissipate like 90W of power and need a monster noisy fan to cool it, having that humming under your desk may be ok for you, but for most they would rather not have it, just ask anyone who works in a real IT lab with a 100k BTU cooling system running over their head to keep a 200 node cluster cool, then you'll know the value of a quite room :)
