At this point, I kind of get a kick of seeing how the copyright system is thrown in favor of those who are responsible for most of the "content" (not worthy of the term "music" eh?:) that is put out there for your consumption. I can't wait for the pendulum to swing back hard. It's already showing some resistance (file sharing and what-not) to being in favor of one side heavily over the other with respect to the original idea of copyright. Some term extensions are fine with me. But the current system of life of the author + 70 years AND digital rights management is obscene and a kick to the crotch of the idea of copyright.
Seriously, that's some bullshit stips they have there.
**WARNING: I am under the influence of alcohol at the moment, so if this doesn't make sense, f*ck it.**
The only times I watch MSNBC is when Keith Olbermann is on (which doesn't happen often since I don't have cable) or if i'm sleeping somewhere else other than my apartment and I want to pass out. MSNBC is going to find out the hard way that they can't control political exhibitions in this manner. They should be glad that they got to plaster their name all over the backgrounds of the videos that everyone uses, no matter what station they broadcast on or what website they show videos on. Everyone will see MSNBC. They should not even be allowed to have rules like that on something that should be freely accessible to EVERYONE since many of us live in this country.
Message to MSNBC: You're treading on thin ice with this shit. Play nice, please. Piss the citizens (who give a damn about this stuff) off and you will know about it.
Lots of good music on vinyl. I also love the hand control over the music (yes I do a little DJing here and there). But there is one thing I would love to find for fun.
A Sony Flamingo portable record player.
It would be pretty cool to have a standing record player (nevermind scratching with it, although that would be cool) with a translucent disc inside it playing.
They based the movie off the books that Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver wrote. Seriously, I liked the whole 1st-person book thing. If they wanted to drag it out (like many movies nowadays) they could have had one movie for every book. And they wouldn't have had to butcher the story so much.
*sits down to watch movie* *tries to skip adverts* Me: WTF? *Tries again to no avail* *introduces movie player to business end of 12-gauge* *takes movie player back to store and says it was defective* *recommends same procedure to many friends*
You might not want to use that phrase. The problem isn't lessened when is just a few people experiencing it. That and the people I've heard use that phrase *cough*Congressmen!*clears throat* generally have something to hide or don't want you to think about when they say that.
I'm a music nut. I've tried the boycott thing with mixed results. But what has "worked" for me lately is buying CDs and vinyl second hand. Unfortunately, They may already have the money from the original purchase of the music, but if you buy second hand, someone gets money and you get a CD or record and the RIAA partners get nothing.
If you're into mech stuff, they're pretty good games. Also a great example of in-game slowdown. Get 2 players and a few enemies on the screen and it slows to a crawl frequently. Supposedly they fixed this with the next AC game but I haven't played it so I dunno.
Make self-growers have a license (20 bucks or so, renewed yearly) to grow up to a certain amount of hemp/marijuana. Something along the lines of a limit saying you can posess up to five plants at one time, size restrictions may vary.
Well, some reasonable limitation to homebrew devs that they can get by with but larger publishers can't (or have extreme difficulty) getting around. Maybe the mini-cds instead of the full CD-Rs.
Maybe what they could do is tier the licensing so that people can use the sdk free but only burn to CD-Rs and RWs, then charge more for DVD/R/RW/RAM and regular pricing for the Blu-Ray or whatever they plan on using.
Sure as hell ain't for DVR duties with only 8-10GBs of space.

How about this?
Set the copyright system back to the default 14+14 years. If the record companies decide to use DRM on their stuff, make it illegal for them to apply for the 2nd 14 years. That way people can make backups of their stuff unhindered by sh*tty copy protection, and they get to make a little more money.
-=OR=-
Let them keep their Life+70 terms and DRM. In turn file sharing must be legalized and royalty-free sampling and public performance made legal for everyone who buys a CD.
Seriously, with all of the ads that many stations (ClearChannel's to be more specific) are trying to squeeze in now, it really sucks. I don't remember what the machine/program that does this is called, but what it does is it compresses songs (I think by taking small chunks out of each fraction of a second) and has them play faster than what they normally do, making it sound higher-pitched. (ex. Hot100 in the Dallas/FW area) And the other two don't make any kind of sense (to me, whole limited income thing) unless you are a fan of the band, because they're already getting your money for something you know nothing about.
BTW this is actually how I found out about most of the bands I have on CD and vinyl now.
If you have access to a CD burner, download source tar.bz2 files for the programs you need/want and burn them at the university. Then dump them inside "/usr/portage/distfiles" on your computer. You'll be dointg this every now and then for big packages such as gnome or kde, but for the small ones, dialup should be fine.
Well, according to opensecrets.org, for the 2002 and 2000 election cycles, it doesn't look like too much went to the Democratic party. Diebold could have been donating heavily to the democratic party and I still would be pissed because they are biased (not to mention secretive) and in control of the voting process in many places.
Anyways...
Where did you see records of them donating to the democratic party?
The fact that they are a for-profit company (with a record of donating to the Republican party) in control of voting for some parts of the country seems a bit off. I don't believe these memos should have been leaked. They should have been publicly accessible. Hell, anything tied to their voting division should be publicly accessible to protect the voting process. And Diebold should be held accountable for having plans to screw voters over.
Of course everyone is going to be weary of the government doing stuff like this. Mostly because the government has abused power like this in the past for political gains. Who's to say the people running the government won't (or haven't) do it again with this kind of information.
This could be a tool to find the next 9/11 and I am all for it.
If you really want to see the next 9/11 stopped, start with foreign policy.

Armored Core 2 or 3.
Maybe distributed computing helps out in that area?

Here's a big one.
:)
Senator Bill Frist.
Feel free to google for more information on others.
Oh, BTW, and the paranoia has been justified by the actions of the "Republican" party and their closeness with fundamentalist christians with money.

see those things that you listed? Those aren't necessarily bad things. I think safety nets like those are kinda cool just in case you ever need them.
