When I resigned in a professional manner, they made me stay the whole 2 weeks. Sometimes they escort people out of the building that day for security reasons and still pay them for the remaining 2 weeks. However, I had to stay and fill out paperwork and go to BS meetings and suffer. What they did to you is pretty standard and has nothing to do with you or how you resigned.
Somehow you would have to include "the unknown ensign" into the game. The cannon fodder of the sci-fi world. Star Trek could not exist without this lovable yet disposable character.
Just buy your back up hard drive from a major manufacturer like Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, etc. Many of these companies have hard drive imaging software on their site for free to transfer the contents of any hard drive to their hard drive.
Not a perfect solution because you would need to buy a spare hard drive for every laptop, but it's free.
Only 80 games? That's pretty damn good. The movie industry is lucky to get 1 good movie a week or about 50 a year. I bet the TV industry has even less overall. Does the music industry put out 80 really succesful albums a year?
If the game industry can "only" put out 80 successful games a year and I only play 12-24 I will remain one happy gamer. Heck I may even pick up 1 or 2 unsuccessful games.
I wonder how many "break-even" games they make a year?
Apparently it only works at 4XAA and only on the X1800XT. There are also performance differences when playing multi-player versus running time demos.
This is a step in the right direction. However, this is not the OpenGL driver fix that everyone has been waiting for. It is a manipulation of ATI's new programmable memory controller.
It's been noted on many sites that these cards are not available for sale yet. ATI has been getting hammered lately over their decision to "paper launch" crossfire, while telling review sites that they would be in stores. Don't expect to see these cards for at least a month.
Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences. Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, loot stealing, and standing in a queue in order to complete a quest.
Guild Wars takes place in a large virtual world made up of many different zones, and players can walk from one end of the world to the other. In Guild Wars much of the tedium of traveling through the world has been eliminated. Players can instantly return to any safe area (town or outpost) that they have previously visited just by clicking on it in the world overview map.
Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience. Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild. As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat. Players can do battle in open arenas or compete in guild-vs-guild warfare or the international tournament. Engaging in combat is always the player's choice, however; there is no player-killing in cooperative areas of the world.
Players in Guild Wars can play with or against players from around the world in the global tournaments and arenas. And while players are initially placed in a region based on their selected language (so that there is a greater likelihood that others will be speaking their language) they can join up in the always-available International District to form parties and to play with anyone from anywhere in the world.
Actually I have enjoyed Guild Wars so much I am now interested in WoW. This "no fee" introduction may help more people get to know this kind of game and then they can move on to the monthly fee games.
Guild wars will be selling expansion packs in the future, to add new content and pay the bills.
So established businesses in London, who have contributed tax dollars for years to the city do not get to benefit from the event being there. The whole reason to have the games in London is so that the IOC can profit? Are businesses that do not sponsor the Olympics banned from doing business with people who show up for the games?
It won't be long until athletes are winning bronze, silver and gold coke cans.
I would be curious to see how many searches are run on eBay a day. I know it's not the same as a total web search, but it has to be a high number. When I'm bored I can run 30 searches or more in a day. I don't think I have ever done that on Yahoo.
" Wolf wrote: "The iPod continued to lure Windows users into the Macintosh fold (in the third quarter). Mac unit shipments rose 35 per cent, three times the PC market growth rate."
Mac unit shipment surged 43 per cent in Apple's second quarter. Wolf believes it's "reasonable to conclude" that this was "driven chiefly by Windows users buying Macs".
"Assuming that Mac shipments would have been flat year-over-year, these percentage increases imply that about 200,000 Windows users purchased Macs in both the second and third fiscal quarters," he added. "
The article makes a lot of assumptions without using any real data on Windows users switching.
Could the surge in the second quarter have been caused by people who already own Macs upgrading or buying a Mac Mini as second system? Or even Windows users buying a Mini as a secondary machine? I know several Windows users who bought a Mini but still use a Windows machine.
I was using HD-DVD as an acronym for High Definition DVD not for the competing standard. Blu-Ray with it's increased capacity can hold high definition video. The "HD-DVD" format calls for less storage but uses a higher compression to store high definition video.
The main reason I support Blu-Ray over "HD-DVD" is that eventually writers will show up for computers and I want the larger storage format for back up purposes.
Henry Ford, Bill Gates, and Einstein are driving in a car....The car breaks down at the side of the road....Ford suggests to check the engine to see if it's a mechanical problem, Albert suggests checking the electrical to see if there is a short, and of course Bill suggests to close all the windows and try restarting.

If this card was released at $400, no one would buy any of their older cards. The 6800GT's and Ultras would all have to be sold at a loss. It's no suprise that the fastest card on the market is also the most expensive.
I prefer the use of actual games when benchmarking a card. The synthetic benchmarks from 3dMark do not tell me anything other than how the card will perform in 3Dmark. With various game engines using a wide range of features such as OpenGL, DirectX, SM3.0, HDR, etc. you need to benchmark by using a wide range of "actual" games.
The PSP costs $100 more than a Nintendo DS. I will not be to suprised if the PS3 costs more than the XBOX even $150 more. You do get more power and features, so it will not be a suprise to pay extra for it.
I would also imagine that the next Nintendo will be less expensive than the other 2 systems.

Seems like game sales for the PS2 are still going strong. With recent releases of Soul Calibur III and God of War, they seem to be doing well.

Several games benchmarked at 2048x1536
1080p is 1920x1080 and many PC games can run at or above 1600x1200.

The lack of a monthly fee, has made Guild Wars a great introduction into the world of online RPG's for me. You can buy the game for $39.99 at Amazon and other places. I have been playing it for 6 months now so it's a bargain relatively speaking. They just released some new content for free in addition to the hours and hours of content the game already comes with.
Actually I have enjoyed Guild Wars so much I am now interested in WoW. This "no fee" introduction may help more people get to know this kind of game and then they can move on to the monthly fee games.

Further more what is the plural for a Mac Mini?

If Sony comes to the market with the first High Definition DVD player in it's PS3, $399 would be a steal of a deal.
My first DVD player was $300, I can only imagine what the first HD-DVD players will cost.
Maybe they will even bundle a 1080p version of Spider-Man 2 to with it.

Guild Wars had a major update on the 15th. With new (free) content coming soon. Did I mention that there is no monthly fee, I think I did.

Here are some screenshots I took recently, fun game.

Actually NVIDIA's old cards that have been out for over a year support H.264.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_16213.html
If you download The latest Windows Media Player and have a 6xxx series video card with "pure video" you can run hardware accelerated H.264 video.
Even the ultra-cheap 6200 line (which would work just fine in a mac-mini)can do this.
I would like to see a Mac running dual 6800's in SLI mode. Not only for gaming, but you can turn SLI off and then run 4 DVI monitors.
NVIDIA just released a chipset for Intel, so NForce4 for Mac could be coming?
I have not yet heard where the chipset for the motherboard will come from, but this would be cool.
So this is an announcement about the release date for the release date?
:-(
I hate slow news mornings
