  1. Digital Picture Frame on Making Use Of Old LCDs? · · Score: 1

I am currently working on a digital Picture frame project using an old LCD. It will only do 640x480 but that is just fine for showing digital pictures.

I am going to power it with an old motherboard and Linux so the cost will be minimal. An old 4GB Hard Drive will hold 1000's of pictures.

  3. Re:SCO should be nominated on Hugo Nominations Announced · · Score: 1

Ak! No, don't nominate SCO. That would raise the whole spectre of "should fantasy be included in the Hugo awards" that we dealt with during Harry Potter IV years.

Looks like the debate is over.

  4. SCO should be nominated on Hugo Nominations Announced · · Score: 4, Funny

Their claims against Linux are pure science fiction.

  5. Wood LCD Frame on Exotic Wood Computer Cases · · Score: 4, Interesting

I am looking into making a wood LCD frame. This is for a home built Digital Picture Frame project. Maybe a wood veneer over a metal frame instead of a true wood frame would work better.

  7. I for one like sequels. on Creativity, a Problem for the Gaming Industry? · · Score: 4, Interesting

A game does not have to be "new and different" to be good. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I think that certain sequels like Grand Tursimo 3, Soul Calibur II, GTA3 etc. are better than many of the so called creative games.

Not to mention that many sequels are very new and diffrent and have very little in common with the previous titles other than the name.

Games are currently outdoing the movie industry in sales....so games are dead, long live games.

  9. Publicity? on Infinium Labs Threatens HardOCP Again · · Score: 2, Interesting

You know if this whole lawsuit thing had not happened I would never have gave that article a second thought.

I read Hardocp, I'm sure I must have seen the article and forgot about it. Now thanks to this threat of legal action I will avoid Infinium products. While before all this I would have been blissfully unaware.

  10. HTPC on Shuttle XPC Linux Network Appliance · · Score: 3, Interesting

Shuttles make great Home Theater PC's. I have been using one for several months now. Linux support for this type of hobby is growing as well.

Using one of these you can build a device for your home theater that will handle MP3's, DVD's, DIVX, Pictures and act like a TIVO.

Adding Linux to the mix could make pre-configured HTPC boxes as common as DVD players. Maybe even for sale at Walmart.

  13. Webcam on Online Gaming for Couples? · · Score: 1

  14. Price still sucks, buy a CD on Exchange Rates Play With Online Music Prices · · Score: 1

Most CDs have about 10 tracks on them. Most CDs (at least here in the US at Best Buy or BMG) Sell for about $9.99. So for .99 a track I get a full CD with a Jewel Case, Liner Notes, Artwork, etc. and I can rip it into any format I want.

Let me know when I can download .wav files for .25 then downloading music will interest me.

  21. The Digital Darkroom on Would Ansel Adams Have Gone Digital? · · Score: 4, Insightful

A quote from a recent PBS documentary:

"He manipulated the work tremendously in the darkroom. He always said that the negative is the equivalent of the composer's score and the print is the equivalent of the conductor's performance, and the same piece of Mozart is conducted differently, performed differently, by different orchestras, different conductors, and Ansel performed his own negatives differently. ...I don't know, half or forty percent of the creative process occurred in the darkroom...."

I could only imagine what Ansel Adams could do with Photoshop!

  22. How I recycle at work on Creative Recycling: Dumpster Diving · · Score: 1

I run the computer lab where I work. And before I get rid of any old computers or computer parts I always offer them up to the people I work with. Many of the computers we now get rid of make great second computers for kids to do their homework on or to access the internet with.

Our company actually has to pay to have our stuff recylced so this way I save the company money and I get to help some people out.
