Honestly if someone ELSE has a virus and is sending out your emial address what is MS going to do over the phone with you that is going to stop it??
MS tech support did not write OE, the OE patch for this has been out over a year and making sure YOU don't get and send the virus is about the only thing they can do for you.
Don't want a virus? use kmail (*nix) or pocomail (win*).
That is a good point, there is a huge stack of "almost there" office products, it would be nice to see some of the organizations with the recourses to put them out combine efforts for a main stream product.
Once company alone will never rival MS on the desktop, that's why MS is against it. Nobody has the resources to throw 60,000 years of man hours of coding to compete against them, especially not starting from scratch when Microsoft already has such a stronghold on the market. Many small companies working on GPL software is the closest thing Microsoft has to competition, they are afraid of it and trying to crush it. It's simply a move on MSFT's part to try and prevent OSS from competing.
There are an abundance of mp3 players, cars portibles, home audio etc. But what I want is an 802.11b mp3 player for my car so I can program it and upload to it from the computer in my house. Is there such a product on the market yet and are there plans for it in the future?
Microsoft is looking at long term goals with the XBox, I don't think anyone thought the XBox would overtake teh PS2 for more reasons then I care to name here but if Microsoft were to release a backwards compatible XBox 2 and 3 with revamped hardware and additional network features they may have a chance to gain market share.
If they had sensitive documents that were harmful to the company what were they doing on a public web server with read permissions and no access restrictions in the first place? _I_ think the company should be liable to pay legal charges and damages to Google.
from mozilla.org: "Mozilla 0.9.9 is our latest milestone release."
RC1 is on the way but 0.9.9 is still quite stable, the big deal about the release of RC1 is that it will freeze the API.
How is a stripped down version of windows going to hinder microsoft? When I install windows the first thing I do is spend 3 hours tearing out everything possible and tweaking it before installing all my software. Windows being "bloated" is it's own weakness in my opinion. If Microsoft came out with a stripped down version of windows every techie I know with a CD writer would be on back order for copies of it.
No flashkit and other have an open source flash movie section, there are slightly cheaper closed source products such as SWiSH and Macromedia has a 30 day trail or Flash FX availible for download. but overall this question is _kind_of_ like asking "we would like to build a Visual C++ project but can't afford Visual C++"
Winfirst is a California based company that is offering last mile fiber internet connections to houses with a 10 meg up/down cap for $100 for install and $50 a month for internet service. They are also soon in line for the dot-death list but it can be done.
If you could bypass the dependency issue my grandmother could install software on Linux, that would be a start but I dare say this is one of Mandrakes strong points on the desktop. The Mandrake software manager uses the RPM system but solved the dependency problem, when you select to install an application with dependencies it will notify you that it is also going to install those dependencies. This saves time and if there is a new version of the package released you can just do an update.
For me it's not as much about having AOL users take em out, but the fact that websites will have to now be tested for non MS compatibility leaving an option for some of us that don't use IE. I use Galeon in Linux and Opera on windows.
4 RAID ATA/133's also non RAID capible and 2 standaed ATA/133. Hmm.. that's only 12 drives, the article said it's aimed at the consumer market because it uses ATA/133 instead of SCSI but who has a case that's going to hold 12 drives? On the plus side anyone that does use that many drives probably has most of the HDD's they've ever owned connectd to the motherboard, many of them before SCSI's time. That's where I think it makes sense to use ATA, no home user is going to go out and buy 12 SCSI drives and it's too early to have them laying around just yet. This does mark a nice milestone and I will someday soon enjoy running a quad RAID 0 system + my two CD drives. Now that the memory clock sppeed has bypassed AMD's FSB and many new chipsets are structured to run them out of sync you will see additional performance for DMA. It's good to see someone finding a use for it.
All graphics should be in ASCII, Anything else would be large and use more than.003% of my 386's CPU.:)

Actually by default hardly any email apps let you select a seperate inbox without setting up a filter, including outlook, outlook express, and Kmail. They all require an if-sent-to filter set up to do this.
Nope it's down also, don't click it. Don't even waste your time on it. I checked it's down =)
Downloading now, I hope I get it before it's slashdotted. :)
