    a few yrs ago russian war booty was on display @ the r.r bldg in d.c.: hitler's desk w/a glass globe w/ a swastika etched on it, military banners displayed on the floor (very symbolic, that;-) in front of ww2 photos of the banners, great stuff...

    and there was a comparative display of german & russian weapons: the german guns were beautifully machined, the russian were stamped steel, looked like toys, but they could crank 'em out, much like the u.s. advantage of many sherman tanks vs. fewer panzers...

    and each german gun took a round specially designed for its intended use, while all the russian guns, from pistol to machine gun, took the same round...u can imagine logistical advantages of that;-)

    funny, isn't it, that the u.s. has adopted the german design philosophy (better but fewer) while the russians went 4 mass quantities...

    at least firefox fixed that, but i agree that the mmi leaves much 2 b desired...

    i agree that unsanity has been very responsive, but i don't use windowshade because last time i tried it (for the minimize-in-place feature...i miss IRIX;-) X11 apps would become unresponsive:-(

    now _there's_ a blast from the past;-) great tunes, even scandalous: "i got a brand new pair of rollerskates, u got a brand new key" shocked a guy i worked with @ the time...seems so quaint now;-} and i remember seeing her @ the syria mosque in pgh...a buncha kids got up on the stage & sat around her while she was playing, so into it she didn't notice, and when she did, she did a double-take;-)

    they standardized on 1 design & worked out the bugs, reducing costs & risks, not 2 mention opposition;-) unfortunately, in the u.s. every new nuke is a unique design, with a new set of bugs to be discovered during and after construction:-(not to mention the hassle of unique regulatory approval)-: a guy i knew was hired to draft as-built blueprints of a nuke in michigan(? memory fades after 20 yrs; and, yes, as-built != as planned)-: he said he didn't want to be in the same state when it went online:-}

    it's caused by the disconnect between the motion the eyes see & the inner ear _doesn't_:-p any flight viz. does it 2 me... sim.sicknes has been known since the early days...a friend @ nhtsa tells me the driving sims back in the '60s make subjects sick...and the better rally drivers they tested got sick quicker...
