    The funny thing I always see is movies about prehistoric man.

    They always show them sloutched over, dirty as hell, grunting like idiots. Basically while they claim this prehistoric man was the smartest animal on the planet, they show him as the dumbest. every other animal I know washes his ass. You can NOT be making a spear and still can't wash your ass.

    You my frient, are a troll. I can name two projects off the top of my head (JBOSS MySQL) that both turn a profit and both are open source software.

    If you think the only money in software is selling the binary, you are again, lost. Try getting some free support on MS windows or MS office, etc. Try getting some free training for windows or office, etc.

    GPL has nothing to do with copyright which means you still have the right to sell that software and anything else just like anyone else. If you suck and are not even the best coder on your own creation, thats your fault. Blah blah blah, enough talking with you. I will not be egged on with such foolishness.

    I refused to buy wc3 because of the crime that was diabloII. I was not upto par with what I expect from BLizzard, so I assumed they had switched from pride mode to $$$ mode. I assumed wc3 wouldnt be much to talk about.

    Yep, I bought NWN. Having hard time finding reliable group to play with on a regular basis. awesome game, but its so purely D&D that you really need a real group a friends. battle.net style idiots wont cut it.

    This would not hold water in a court of law. Any other major company could produce a game called FreeCraft and Blizzard could try, but they would be unsuccessful at stopping them.

    Just look at the look-a-like perfume industry for a clue about that.

    Of course you are correct in that as open source lawyer-less group, they should have known better. but it really wouldnt matter, blizzard or any RTS company could try to shut them down for any reason. Thats why we have the FSF, etc. to try and protect our freedoms.

    disagree. I too have contributed to many open source projects without being a full member.

    Some project to do with sound on linux.
    JHotDraw
    NetBeans
    And about 2 others I can not recall.

    This likely happens because everyones computer is different, and sometimes it does not work on their computer. Every so often a person gets a spare moment and/or really needs/wants that piece of software on their computer.

    Yea, the DNS servers themselves were hijacked. So that you can connect to the hijacked servers is not protecting you.

    Not to worry though, this is *exactly* what SSL is there to protect you from.

    I agree, local TV stations in my city Detroit, have lots of 'watchdog' programs. Like 1 per major channel. Thier is a reportor that goes out tracking fraud claims. 100% of the time the users are being ignored by law enforcement, and when TV gets involved all the sudden stuff gets fixed...

    Funny. MCI was like the original internet big ISP. And thats exactly what was said 5-7 years ago. MCI was too big to provide good customer service in the ISP business like local ISPs could.

    I disagree. I have YET to hear anyone on slashdot say anythign to the affect of "thats not fair." What people are saying is "Thats not right." People are pointing out lies and misrepresentations they believe SCO is making. Nobody is simply crying foul.

    more than 1/2 the work of the lawyers will be research into the issue. The community has already produced mounds of information that lawyers can and WILL use in court. Look at what was found today about the Anchient UN*X code being shown, and the predicition of law suit.

    I think the Linux community is not a bunch of kids but intelligent working professionals that know exactly what is going down here and is offering their help in the best way they each know how.

    You doubt? Don't we have a good example set by the US government on this precise thing. Sure, we know their are WMD, but we'll just keep the proof to our selves. Yes we know Osama did it, but we will keep the proof to ourselves. Note that most Americans have accepted that Osama was responsible for 9/11, but no evidence to this date has been produced.

    Seems like a successful strategy even if not truly legal (I think its called libel and slander)...

    MD5 is their to show differences, not similarities.

    The slightest benign difference will throw off the MD5. Just like you can have a 1K file encrypted. in a text comparison you have 1 character difference. But in the encrypted comparison you have 1K differences.

    Its the opposite of what the MD5 is supposed to do and a backwards idea.

    Not to mention the copyright holder determines the license. So Linus could decide hes had enough of the GPL, and change to closed source anytime he sees fit as the copyright holder. This would naturally not affect already released code.

    This is why some open source related companies are looking at dual copyright holdership.

    In your alter-world where authors have no default rights, the GPL would simply play a different role.

    I do not consider BSD to be open source. IIRC It implies no requirement that the recipients of the code, open their code. So how can it be considered open source?

    It fails the age old bargain, Ill show you mine if you show me yours.

    Free yes, open no.

    Actually it sounded from the translation like SCO was not using Linux "code" to show that linux stole from SCO, but bits of code people had posted in the kernel mail list.

    Yes, this is a true fact that is comming to light. Even at my job, when you add more computing power, you do not reduce the time to takes to complete a job, just increase the overall quality of that job.

    I totally agree. Most of my coding strategy breakthroughs come when I am at home in the shower, or in the mall, or generally, elsewhere not thinking about code. If you burn me that hard, I will not think about code when I am not on the job because I will need a break from it.

    Thats when more equals less. Like having a car with the choke stuck. If you mash the gas, it will just stall...
