And generally, up until that point, the mac games always had better graphics and sound and were generally better games (id was the main exception to that rule).

I'm sure Sony, Toshiba, nVidia, ATI, Pioneer, etc, all have their share of similar lawsuits, we just don't hear about them because they're not as hyped.

during my 10th-12th grade years in HS (I graduated in 99, do the math), we had a videogame club. When we started, all of the machines were Pentium1/133s with 32mb of RAM and windows95 and we pretty much were only playing starcraft, duke nukem, doom2 and quake1 on the 32-computer network. We charged 10$ for the year to join and had constant fund raisers selling candy and soda and stuff like that (pretty much 90% of the funds we took in were from the people who were playing after school).

It was the only club I ever joined and we even went on a trip to Great Adventure (NJ's Six Flags). We used the $ to buy memory for the machines and later, voodoo2 cards so we could buy and play other games like quake2, GTA1, starcraft, total annihilation, warcraft2 and other games like that that I can't remember...

After columbine happened, we were reduced to meeting only once a week rather than 3 times, and the games were screened and only "less violent" games were allowed. The strange part was that GTA and quake1 were allowed, but starcraft and quake2 weren't. We played them anyway, though. =P

  13. Re:Real advantages over using Linux on Macs? on New Patches Let iMac G5 Boot Linux · · Score: 2, Insightful

I've run linux on my powerbook and there actually is hardware support for most of the powerbook's features. There's sleep mode support (for when you close the display), trackpad support, display support (for running X), LED support (you can have it blink with disk activity), PCMCIA support, and support for all of the ports on the back.

You've gotta remember that linux is NOT OSX. Just because OSX has a Unix (BSD) subsystem doesn't make it the same as linux. If you're programming in OSX and using certain Unix APIs, they work differently in linux and OSX and I've run across a couple things that are kept in different libraries and in different places.

Besides, some (albeit VERY few) software is distributed binary-only. I've seen software that's only got linux-x86 and linux-ppc binaries, and they will NOT run in OSX.

My primary reason for running Linux on PPC (aside from development to make sure my apps work in linux and OSX) is for my servers. I have 2 macs (450mhz G3 and G4) set up for that purpose. IMHO, linux is better on a headless server than OSX. Sure, I could use OSX-Server, but I don't wanna shell out the $ for it. And I want a streamlined system (yay, Gentoo).

Also, there is this great thing called "Dual-Boot" where you can have 2 or more (Multi-Boot) OSs installed at once and decide which you want to use when you start your machine.

And, lastly, in 5 years when OS12 is out and only runs on G6 and G7s, the G5 linux support will have matured enough to fully support your older hardware.

Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office.

While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.

Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

    Principal: "What is 3 x 3?"

    Harry: "9".

    Principal: "What is 6 x 6?"

Generally, I suggest getting a PC (a 1200$ Dell, in fact) to most people when they ask me what computer to get. Sure, you can get a 1ghz G4 eMac from apple for like 800$, but it's a piece of shit compared to a Dell that you could get for the same price.

Although, for 4000$, I think the PC you could get (pre-built, not built yourself, at home, mind you) are pretty close, and which is better is decided by your own OS preference/needs.

I say this as I'm typing into safari on my 800mhz, custom built G4 with 1.25GB RAM and it's struggling to keep up... but I'm downloading 6 torrents and have a 400mb photoshop file and a multi-page inDesign document open, not to mention countless other apps. I've considered many times getting a 2000$ Dell workstation, but it wouldn't fit my needs enough, and I can't stomach the idea of using windows at home. I feel 1000x more comfortable in OSX.
