In the USA, the scheme is to insure that your money is extracted before you die. So they will treat you with drugs that draw out the cognitive decline as much as possible. Then (conjecture here) when you have no more money to give the nursing home, they allow you to die.
Sorry you had to go through the long goodbye with a family member. Your bleak assessment has not been my experience with my Dad's decline though. His doctor and nursing home are not in cahoots to drain money. Whether to use drugs that may improve his memory or to alleviate other health issues has been the family's decision. The only time the nursing home chimed in was to control aggression.
As far as myself getting the disease, man I'm with you. Get out while you still know how. Otherwise, at some point, you'll be wearing Depends because you can't remember where the toilet is or how to use it.
and for something as important as taxes I don't feel comfortable relying on WINE, so I will have a windows 10 laptop for that purpose next year.
I run a Windows 10 VM on my Linux Mint system. Works just fine with my H&R Block tax software. Also use that VM to keep track of my finances with Microsoft Money. The nice thing about that is that both Windows 10 and Money don't cost anything. It's all legal. Money is free from Microsoft and Windows 10 lets you use it without "activating" it. Just some subtle nags and limited customization. If there are major features disabled, I haven't come across them yet.
Also have non-activated Windows 10 on a separate hard drive I dual boot into for those apps that need full system performance - like games and Photoshop.
There's no evidence that I've ever seen that Hillary intentionally gave away or sold state secrets. But what she did do, and the evidence is clear, was to demonstrate gross negligence in the handling of classified information. That is a crime and it's a crime many people have been sentenced to jail over.
Coders might have different backgrounds and political opinions, but nearly every one I've ever met found deep, almost soulful pleasure in taking something inefficient -- even just a little bit slow -- and tightening it up a notch.
There's also get great pleasure in reducing the complexity of code. If I can make the code faster/more efficient and simpler at the same time then I have one of those oh yes, yes, yessss moments.
Aren't flight control systems supposed to be triple-redundant anyway? Everything I've read about them says they are; three systems and if there is incorrect data it uses the two that agree.
Was wondering this myself. I can't believe the FAA let this one slip through. There must have been some other type of fail-safe mechanism Boeing used to convince the FAA that this system was safe. I'd like to know what that mechanism was.
It really is strange to me how someone arrives at their point of view over something like this - the device can't be used for military grade encrypted communications, therefore it sucks, the people who designed it suck, and their children suck too.
Like you said, "Mission Accomplished" for its intended audience. For me, I've got two of them. One is running my weather station and hasn't been rebooted in over a year. My only beef, and I agree with gweihir here, is the lack of documentation. I like to play around with bare metal systems. Last time I checked on the Pi, there was scant info on the SoC so I didn't want to waste my time with it. Maybe it's been reversed engineered by now or more documentation has been released.
At home I switched over to Mint and haven't looked back. By the end of the month my Windows box will be collecting dust. It's nice to feel more in control of my computer again. Haven't felt that way in a long time since Microsoft started down that road.
I just put Mint on a newly built PC. Pretty happy with it so far. I wish you could still legally or safely get Windows 7 as I still have some use for it. Will take a look at 10 in a dual boot arch assuming Microsoft still allows a trial period. My hopes aren't high though based on what I've read about 10's functionality.
Both parties are responsible for the huge debt and there is no disincentive, short of financial collapse, to keep these politicians from spending and spending. As long as their pet pork projects and policy objectives are funded, there's no way the debt will be paid back. And forget about a balanced budget constitutional amendment being introduced in congress. That would be like an alcoholic wanting to bring back prohibition. The amendment would have to be drafted in a constitutional convention by the states - which by law must have balanced budgets. I'm willing to bet 3/4th of the states would ratify it. We'd just have to be wary of some states trying to introduce nonsensical amendments during the process.
All TV's are dumb panels until you connect them to the network. You don't have to pay more, let all the other idiots subsidize the price with their personal data
I bet they are smart enough to find an AP your neighbor leaves wide open.
If your data and/or uptime is valuable enough, then ECC makes sense to protect that. We are talking about laptops here. Outside military applications, there isn't much demand for it.
This and "telemetry" uploads to MS are the things keeping me away from Windows 10. As one AC posted, there are several watchdog processes that keep the whole update mechanism functional. Has anyone had luck with blocking updates with firewall rules?
Unless you use your laptop often on commercial jets, ECC isn't getting you much extra protection closer to sea level. Even safety critical avionics for single engine Cessna type aircraft (FAA Part 23) don't require ECC.
CNN interviewed the brother. The "journalist" was most interested in a tweet Mr. Whelan made calling CNN fake news. God, what a circus journalism has become.
And you can fuck off with your partisan bullshit. A shutdown occurs when an agreement over spending can't be made. It takes both Republicans and Democrats to make that happen. You only blame Republicans because you agree with Democrats spending habits.
Yes you are right. Creative works are not property like a car. But creative works are intellectual property. You can own the rights to, you can sell those rights, transfer them, put them in your will, etc. They are a form of property like I said.

No kidding. It's like Adobe Flash updates of the past. Except now the bug fixes introduce new people killing issues.

While the pilot shouts "The override. Where's the override!", the co-pilot laughs at the unintentional Star Trek II reference.
You say this like it's established fact that the two actions are cause and effect, there is zero evidence to say one way or the other.
Hey look! Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined the conversation. Economics degree and all.
I'd prefer the Shock-and-awe budget option. Dumb bombs with JDAM kits. Guide one right into Zucks corner office window. Watch it live, on Facebook!
Because there are more users sick and tired of the AGW alarmism being shoved in our faces here.

And 20 percent of that 10 percent consists of the damn autoplaying previews.

And Obama said that under Obamacare you could keep your doctor.
and people are keeping their doctors! wow!
Why yes we have been able to keep our new doctors.
So just legalize it and get over it. You'd destroy the mexican cartel's income source at the same time. Win-win.
I agree but you also need to prevent the state from taxing it at such a high rate as to keep the black market profitable.

Or yours either. Maybe you dropped out of school in the 5th grade before you learned about what a metaphor is.
