Oh great. They either got rid of the L1 bridges or they've hidden them under that pretty little heat spreader. Now how are we supposed to overclock these things? Pop off the spreader? Probably crack the chip. I don't think AMD really wanted users OC'ing thier chips anyway so perhaps this is a little built in protection on thier part.
Anyways HACKERS GET CRACKIN, we've gotta OC these things before they're obsolete!
"you may be coughing up twenty kilobucks or more per month."
KILO BUCKS. hehe. Isn't a dollar in English units? I was told some time ago not to mix english units with metric prefixes. But Kilobucks! I like like it.
Hmmm, "War of the Ring game delves into Tolkien Books"
Well editors thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'd hope a game about Middle Earth would delve into the books from which it were written. It's not like the game programmers said "hmm let's make this game with some orcs, and hobbits and this kick ass wizard named Gandalf" like they pulled it out of their ass. OF COURSE IT DELVES INTO THE BOOKS! Without them there would be no LOTR......tards....
Ford got rid of the Torino scales years ago. Since they stopped producing them in the 70's they no longer needed to weight them so out the door they went!
Some of us slashdotters enjoy stories that aren't just SCO or RIAA articles. I could actually give a shit about SCO, but I like to keep tabs on satellite news. Guess that's just another thing that seperates us engineers from the programmers:)
Good to see that there are still those visionary geniouses-THE MODERN AMEDAUS-who know what's gonna happen & when, oh and really have a knack for stirring up the media.
Lemme give this a try: I see in our future....some lawsuits...and there will be a plauge....and some severe weather....run for hills! REPENT! Your days are numbered!
Maybe they should just stop announcing general things like that and just fix the damned security hole so no one has a chance to attack with a virus. But then again this guy also sounds alot like our Prez....today we will be at yellow alert..there may or may not be a terrorist activity of an indeterminable type that could or could not endager American lives....that is all.
Any self respecting parent who loves and cares about their children shouldn't have to have a law that tells them to lock up their guns. The shouldn't have to be told you need to teach your kids right & wrong. Hell, anyone with common sense ought to know if you keep a gun in your house, or anything else dangerous for that matter ie: bleach, bug spray, fire extinguishers, welding tanks, etc everyone in that house should be aware of it, it's dangers, and how to use the thing properly to be safe. My four year old girl knows not to go whack my oxygen & acetylene tanks with anything. The kids know not to drink bleach. The kids know not mess with guns-even BB guns, especially when they don't know how to fire one. Making laws like mandatory gun locks & things of that nature are mainly wastes of tax money & time. As a parent, YOU should be responsible for educating your child. Laws like these & lawsuits like the one the article mentions are merely ways of shifting blame away from yourself. And could anyone believe that maybe-just maybe-the kids just weren't all there? Alot people just can't seem to rationalize that there are just some fucked up people and there is NO amount of law, lawsuit, or supervision that's gonna change that.
Or how about that part about not running servers, or sharing the connection between multiple computers. That is why the sell multiple IP's for the same household and charge ya extra. At least Comcast was that way...
What is it with Extreme as the buzzword these days? When you hear extreme you think of people jumping off cliffs or launching motorcycles off tall things. Things that some may consider DANGEROUS or STUPID. It can also mean "on the edge" as in pushing the limits or ground breaking technology. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't want a computer that pushes the edge, is dangerous, or stupid. I want a nice stable (as in doesn't crash 10 times a day) computer that I can watch my pr0n on. Is that too much to ask? Extreme is worn out in my book-pick a new buzzword.
Well I'm glad to see that you guys aren't discriminating between Windows or Linux companies about sueing these days. I'd have figured the/. crowd would be dancing around a bonfire waiting for M$ heads to presented on a pike. Looks though like you guys just want ANY head on a pike:D
But hopefully Lindows is a company that honors it's customers requests and does not file anything until you do agree...or is any company, whether it peddle Windows or Linux, just as fallable and evil as the next?
Ya know it's that "thing" that comes with Windows that is SO important to the functionality and stability of the OS that you can't remove the damned thing. Ya know that thing you use to watch moving pictures of people humping.
Or maybe you're one of those lucky(?) Linux users that doesn't have to be tied down to Media Player.
I second this guys opinion. The/. world has been bitching & moaning about getting a windows desktop replacment based on linux for a long time. Now that Lindows has stepped up to the plate and created one people are still complaining. Look guys, just because it isn't perfect Linux and you have to pay (GASP!) for add ons and such doesn't make totally bad. Redhat & Mandrake, etc have the ability to do what Lindows has done but with thier versions which alot of you like. But they haven't. Gripe at them about it, not Lindows at least they have tried. What alot of you think is that any grandma should be able to do a Redhat install. Ain't gonna happen. Lindows kinda just works (most of the time) which is what Joe Consumer wants. I don't know anyone who wants to spend all day tring to get thier network card working to share with thier windows workgroup for files and printers which is what most home networks are about. I know I hated it. Lindows is also a BUSINESS. They have costs to cover so you really can't slam them for trying to make a buck by sell Lindows specific support & progs.
Stop shooting down everything that comes along. You guys ask for a Windows replacement. Ya got one. If ya don't like it let your wallet speak and go make your own solution.
Using Freenet & the like has one problem which many may or may not realize: Once you DL the file then it can be found. The network may be encrypted but most of us do not have encrypted hard drives. Play one of your kiddie porn movies in MS Media Player-chances are it phones home to let MS know what you're watching. Same thing with the MP3's you play. Noticed that "update ID3 tags" feature the new player has. Also someone could drop a trojan horse to open your PC to an HDD scan....look what we have here. Looking back at the RIAA past I wouldn't put it past them to figure some way of doing this or paying for MS media player stats & info. So really the only way to cover yourself is to keep you computer off the Net.
While I see your point, I really don't know how that would hold up in court. Just for your sake & a little CYA you should probably secure that network.
You absolutely correct, the maketroids do expect us to devour whatever they dish out. We've let ourselves become this way. Many of the responses I've gotten to this post have been the usual "well I never agreed to the EULA", it's not legal, copyright not ownership, tranfer of this and that. The point is people, that the corporations want products & services made this way. They own it, we don't. The want to milk as much out of the consumer as possible. If EULA's you never get to read until you open the box and then have automatically accepted it weren't legal then why are they there? Does anyone actually challenge these things in court? Maybe a couple people-I don't know-but not enough to make these things dissappear. You can tell me that it's yours and you'll do whatever you want but when the corps have the legal advantage, don't complain when they slap you with a copyright infringement notice, don't complain unless YOU think you can null & void thier EULA. Don't even get me started on the DMCA. I hate as much as everyone here.
My gathering from the feedback was that most of you thought I was actually defending M$. I wasn't. I was just pointing out that same legal flaw that's been there for a long time and how people think an old dog will do new tricks. Ain't gonna happen. And Lysium, you're response to this was a perfect addendum. It seems you were the only one that go it. Thanks.
A bit of semantics I suppose. Copyright, ownership, the line is so blurred these days. The RIAA wants to treat copyright infringemnet as theft. The shout from on high that it's theft. They seem to be sueing people as if it were theft-well some bastardized kind of theft. Whether you go to jail for theft or you go to jail for some loophole they found in the DMCA the end result is you still go to jail.
I've been reading the replies to this comment & I have to say that you guys know the stuff isn't yours. The hardware is yes but the software isn't. It hasn't been your software ever. You may own the CD it's on but the bits burned on to it are owned by the creator of the content. Every piece of NON GPL software has been this way since I can remember. The EULA states it isn't yours. That's why you can't just do whatever with it you want. You never have been free to hack it. The BIOS in the XBOX is yours too, but the software they put on it to boot-probably thiers. That's stretching it a bit but I'm sure some M$ lawyer could make it sound good.
Now before the flames begin, I believe that what I buy should be mine to do whatever with. But due to whatever rules that govern software it just doesn't happen. For instance, if I mod my Nokia phone with some new software I can probably bet that Verizon isn't gonna let me access their network. Yeah the phone is mine, but they don't have to let it on thier network if it's been modded. Lemme change some settings in my RCA modem to get better DL speeds on Comcast cable internet. Yep, Comcast will shut it off. Go mod your car's CPU and bet that Ford will say nope you voided the warranty, not our problem. Not all car mods are legal.
Software has never been anyone's it's been sold to. Why does anyone think M$ will change just because it's a video game system?

Perhaps the container still IS a half gallon, they just fill it an inch lower from top than before.
You won't click it if you know what's good for ya. BWT NOT WORK SAFE!!
Perhaps this worm does HEAL computers instead of hurt them.....NAH nevermind

I think he means he bought a wireless broadband router and has been wardriving around and leeching neighbors DSL/Cable from thier wireless AP's.
