One accountant I do work for put it to me this way: If you are in the service business the only thing you have to sell is your time (you don't have a product to sell over and over again). You have to price yourself so the customer knows that your time is valuable and will not waste it. At the same time you cannot price yourself out of the market. Don't be ashamed of your price structure as long as you are providing value. Be honest and forthcoming with everything that you are doing for them. Learn to identify and stay away from the problem customers. Or charge them out the ass (his own words). Letting them know upfront what you are going to do and asking if they need any clarification will help in dealing with them.
I have a few customer's on the side that net me about $30G US per year (for the past 3 years). I don't work on individual's PC's unless they are employed by one of my customer's. The reason for that is they know how I work and what they can expect of me.
These are guidelines I use to charge customers. It will vary based on the complexity of the job or my mood: $75/hour basic rate unless prior arrangment has been made. This includes troubleshooting, remediation, consulting and research. Bench rate is $35/hour If they bring their pc's or printer's to my house or I can do something over the phone or remotely. Billing is in 30 min blocks for the 1st hour, then 15 minute increments thereafter. Phone calls are free if they take less than 15 minutes.
My Bill Rate might be a little high for my area (Central Illinois) but it works for me.
As someone said in the thread already, musical scores usually aren't done when the trailer is released. For instance, the movie Gladiator used music from Conan the Barbarian in it's trailer.
I don't know how the GNUcash organization is set up but you've hit on something here. After they got it to a stable version they needed to focus on marketing and providing service for the app. That maybe would have provided some revenue to keep the coders happy. Users of Peachtree, MYOB and Quickbooks and the like are the target audience. GNUgeeks aren't
There's nothing preventing them from GPLing the codebase following this route. Plenty of companies are setup as Service with their GPL'd software as a product.
Bad management or short sightedness is probably killing this project.
It's the same in our Datacenter. The pipes are not charged though. Basically what happens is as soon as a fire is detected the power is cut in the datacenter then the valves are opened so the water reaches the firezones. This theoretically keeps water being dumped on live servers. It would be interesting to see if it ever works.
Yeah theres that. And I was reading an old ST novel a few days ago which seemed indicate that and Earth based arms manufacturer sold Cloaking tech that Kirk stole from the Romulans to the Klingons and Klingon Disruptor tech to the Romulans while the two factions were in a border dispute. Thats why I added the statment about inspiring all kinds of Fanfic.
since you obviously don't know what you are talking about I will geek out on you. According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, Klingon's and Romulan's both had a bird of prey model. The Romulan model was first seen in Balance of Terror (TOS) The Klingon version showed up in STIII The Klingon BOP came about because Kruge was originally supposed to steal one from the Romulans in the movie but that was dropped in later drafts. The name stuck though giving rise to all kinds of fanfic. I'm sure there will be at least one person telling me i'm wrong.
I've been running the dnet client under various OS's for close to 5 years on a AMD K6-2 300. the only slow response has been with some games. when it has served as a file server or test box I really didn't see any slower response with the client on. As for the power issue, most of my systems are up 24/7 for various reasons. So it's not that big an issue to me.
Car manufacturers do not make parts for cars after a few years. I think it's 3 years. Replacement parts are produced by companies other than the manufacturer. In some instances this is the same company that provided the part in the first place. For instance. Ford Motor Corp uses AC Delco parts in production but parts such as Altenators sometimes are not available in Auto Supply stores for a few years. (Usually after the warranty period.) After that time you will find Altenators from many manufacturers in the stores including AC delco. Your analogy failed in this respect.
You failed to remind him that Southern Illinois doesn't really start till you get past Hillsboro or even Centralia. For that omission I banish you to Winchester. >:)
The parent poster must be from Chicago, they think Bloomington is Southern Illinois as well.
There is no George W jr. George H Bush is the Father George W Bush is the son. you have to have the same full name to be a jr. Appropiate slights on him are: Shrub and Dubya. I'm sure there are others. His alchoholic daughters are hot. I'd poke 'em.
Amen. People look at me and my wife weird when our reply to "what's your kid in?" is nothing. Where we live if the kid isn't going to something every stinking night theres something wrong. The only thing my oldest (6 years old) wants to do is take piano when theres an opening with one of the local instrutors. Otherwise it's Play, Draw and whatever else there is to do till bedtime.
Well there would be more airflow. Especially with those boards that have sound and NIC onboard. No cards to get in the way, hence there will be better cooling. I might pick one of these up for my kids computer, but I wouldn't use it for my main system.

You didn't speak of this Beetlejuice more than three times did you?
That could lead to problems infinitly worse than warts.
The fear of "Federal Pound Me in The Ass Prison" keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Well said Sir! (or Madame if that is the case.)
To be "on-topic" you would have to make a joke about Linux beowulf clusters that render 3d models of a petrified Natalie Portman covered in HOT GRITS!

turn the lights out on your front porch.
Also pulling the shades down works as well.
This is another sucky holiday with no real meaning or justification.
