    I agree and if I had the mod points I'd mod you up.

    LaTeX is only straightforward if you use an existing document class. Otherwise it's a complete bitch. It's not even easy to take an existing class and modify it - something I've had to do a few times.

    what would the GNU OS be without Linux, that's right, not an operating system, just a (rather cheezy and worthless IMHO) replacement of another OSes userland

    So GNU was 'cheezy and worthless' before Linux came along. How old are you, 14? Ever heard of gcc for example? Any idea how useful that might have been?

    What do you call real work, anyway? Displaying slides with powerpoint? Use latex and build them using the slides document class.

    Have you ever actually tried doing that? I did once. Using scissors and glue and photocopying onto acetate was actually more efficient.

    Something I've wondered about the GPL, does it define properly what redistribution is? What if you leave it somewhere open by accident and people grab it? Or an employee sends out your proprietary binaries?

    I don't think he was limiting his remarks to either hardware or software-level protection. Like he says, 'The GPL requires you to give out sources to the kernel, but it doesn't limit what you can _do_ with the kernel'.

    He's probably right. we can't use Linux as a tool to fight DRM.

    Not only that but now they've sent him a slightly fatter and creakier model that is probably only used for household chores in the future.

    Anyone know is there going to be a reason in the movie why they sent him another old model? Instead of a fancy shape-changing one for example?

    Looking at the figures it doesn't look to me like IIS has gone from market leader to irrelevance. For the last 5 years - since IIS appeared - Apache has maintained a market share roughly twice that of IIS. But both shares have grown.

    yeah but properly designed hardware should fail safely, regardless of what the media standards say. The content of a CD should not be able to destroy a CD playback device.

    agreed. now it seems strategy = select large group of [spearmen|tanks|whatever] and click on the enemy. I guess the guys who wrote Cossacks seem to have tried to make the combat a bit more tactical but they still have the tedious business of farming and advancing up a tech tree.

    The only thing I've seen recently in the strategy genre has been Legion. Worth checking out; it's not exactly groundbreaking but at least it's not RTS.
