I wanted to find a copy of something called Lost. No, not the hugely popular recent one. This one. I contacted Channel 4 (praise be upon them - they're excellent!) to ask if it was available as a DVD. But it's not, and there are no plans of it. So I had to try and find it online. Which I can't, due to the "other" Lost. So "pirate" copies are the only way I am likely to be able to get it, but even they don't work. What's my point. I guess I'm asking on Slashdot to see if anyone can help me find the UK version of it:)
Just because this guy invented (or part-invented) an encryption technique, he is not necessarily an expert in any other field - no matter how much of a celebtrity he may be. Just because this guy invented (or part-invented) an encryption technique, he is not necessarily not an expert in any other field either.
Actually, seeing if cell-triangulation was accurate enough to measure speeds over long journeys was the reason I started with this. Now of course, I've "upgraded" it to GPS.
I'm sure you're a nice guy, and all, but no, it's not ironic. The performance alluded to is within KDE 4, not the web + sql server combo Polish Linux is using.
I'm going to mod you down whenever I get mod points, for putting annoying sigs in the body of your comment. If you want to have a sig, use the sig provided.
Well, you wouldn't install multiple versions of IIS on a non-dev machine because that would be stupid. So, because you can't think of reasons it would be useful, it's "stupid". Fair enough.
the point that there's no consistency in Linux, Perhaps that's because it can be installed multiple times on the same machine, in different directories, running as different users (yes, I know about suexec, etc). Wonder what would happen if you wanted to have 3 different installations of IIS running on the same machine on different ports? (Different installs, not merely vhosts.)
Imagine hiking up into the woods, and OK, crazy man. Perhaps you stop right there, and tell me what these words - "hiking", and "woods" mean first? Or just a URL where I can download it perhaps...
Hmm. Spin this right, and it'll make a billion. Something like the Truman Show: Big Space Brother. Find some charismatic, talkative convict, and it'll be TV for years.
Users typically copy and paste from one webpage to another. Internet Explorer 8 Activities make this common pattern easier to do... Oh god. This sounds just like the "Hey, let's let the email client run scripts", and "Let's hide the nasty, confusing file extensions from the users" decisions.
Some things should just be a little tricky to do. Like saving a file from an email, locating it, (chmod u+x in *nix), and only then executing it.
I.. realize that I don't know why they are doing what they are doing and it is best to work cooperatively with people, even if I have never met them. Absolutely. Well spoken, that man. We all use the same roads, and while someone driving selfishly won't cause *them* any ill-effects, someone else ahead of them, driving similarly selfishly will affect them. The answer is to try and drive in a manner that doesn't try and impose your views on others. You're not the police. I for instance used to drive fast, but now I have quite a few points on my licence so I have to stick fastidiously to the limit. It does annoy people behind me - and I wish I didn't have to hold them up, but I try and let them past as soon as I can.
We all inhabit the same small rock in space, and the nicer we can be to everyone else, the better all of our collective lives will be.
1. It's brakes. Brakes. Breaks is when something stops working.
2. This is obvious to anyone who has driven much. Try not to use your *brakes* on the motorway. Try to "iron out" the waves by ever so slowly dropping back when you see them approaching.
Interesting. I can sleep for a long time, but still not feel rested. (It's not oversleeping either - it's no matter how long I sleep).
I'm not overweight, which is what I imagine lots of apnea-ics to be - can it still affect me?
I once heard it summed up as : Microsoft are successful because they've successfully lowered everyone's expectation of computers.
The trouble is - with most Windows PCs, rebooting it a: fixes it, and b: is cheaper than delving around.
I however prefer to find out what the problem is, and fix it.

Das Experiment too. Very good.

And all the others you could possibly want! "Give a woman a fish and you'll be sleeping on the couch again."
Yes, I've had that idea before. Sort of a Panopticon.

I apologise then :)
:)
It's usually newbs that do that annoying paste-stuff-in thing, and something tells me you've been around a while.

Good point. However, "Every 10 minutes" is the weak point here. Make it a continuous ping, and then see how available it was.

Downside: You can't murder a dead body. Therefore, you'd be fine to kill for fun. "Running Man" TV shows, perhaps?
That's 'cos we're twice as gullible. (Wow, all those apostrophes, even correctly placed, look weird)
Well, "climate scientists" have a vested interest in doom-laden predictions.
Also, the fact he's just a blogger doesn't mean that he's not right.

With apologies to the poor soul whose server I've linked to.
