    They are terrible games. The first one was just atrocious, bland levels and terrible combat. The second one was basically a pre-cursor to Quake 4, which suffers the same horrible design ...

    "Oh look, a door is stuck half open, everyone stay here, Player, you go three floors down and turn the switch back on to make it open"

    The second one nailed the feeling of the Star Trek universe, but failed the feeling of an FPS game.

    On the other hand, it's in Blizzard's enlightened self-interest to make sure the newcomers can almost catch up to the veterans. It keeps both groups going.

    It's funny though, because out of all the pros and cons you could come up with out of a system with this desired result, the one thing that never would have occured to me is "the veterans will cry about the fact that the newcomers also get purple gear". It's not like this is even a Felucca vs Trammel thing, the fact that newcomers can have easier access to epic levelled gear has virtually zero effect on the 'veterans', who still have their purple gear. Unless of course you count "not being able to grind non epic-geared players you find out in the world into a fine paste as easily" as a huge impediment to your gaming.

    Yeah I wonder how much Dawn of Discovery/Anno 1404 specifically has been impacted by it's use of TAGES. I played the demo of Dawn of Discovery, and I was actually quite excited to get the full game as it seems brilliant. But ever since I preordered Sacred 2 and discovered it had some idiotic copy protection that limited installs ("but it's okay, because we allow you to retract uninstallations, and we'll be around forever"), I've always double checked DRM on any impending PC purchases. And after seeing something described as TAGES, and reading "3 installations", I've simply done my best to forget about the game.

    Out of curiousity I wondered if this wonderful TAGES software had been cracked. Sure enough, there are a number of torrents for both Dawn of Discovery and the cracked exe itself out there ready to be grabbed. Good work Ubisoft. I'm not buying the game, Sycraft-fu isn't either, and the TAGES system hasn't stopped the losers that are still stuck with their entitlement issues that feel the need to get everything for free and their retarded justifications for doing so.

    Us nerds see manned space flight as the beginning of a possible ticket off this rock. Between the insanity of religion, the idiocy of the general reality TV watching populace, and the greed and arrogance of politics, this entire planet is on a slippery slope to some sort of annihilation, and between the people that think their god will save them, the people that are too stupid to understand, and the people in power that just see it as another oppourtunity to make money, there doesn't seem to be much stopping its inevitability.

    If nothing else manned space flight provides the painfully distant option that maybe there is a way to escape from all this, while entertaining the brief thought that maybe the expansion of the human race out into the universe properly, and not just dudes in suits on the closest rock stuck in Earth's gravity, will provide a focus for humanity as a collective to recognize the insanity, the idiocy and the greed and arrogance, and maybe find that these problems start to solve themselves and that maybe we can mature into a species worthy of respect, if only amongst ourselves.

    Also, there is the remote chance of SPACE PONIES. Pink ones that naturally grow fairy bells around their necks and have the cutest little faces. They can also fly, of course. For fucks sake, do I have to explain everything?

    I think for scariness, first person is required. I personally cannot get scared by a game that is in third person. Obviously games like FEAR 1 and 2 are scary games anyway (shame the devs couldn't resist the temptation to have cheap full screen scares otherwise those games would be perfect for scary ambience, so the award stays with System Shock 2), but putting things in first person makes an otherwise normal game take on a creepiness when it chooses to. In first person, the crypt in Arx Fatalis becomes a nightmare in parts; the cradle in Thief DS - hell the zombie filled areas in Thief 1 - still scare. Even games like Oblivion can put you on edge because when you run from something, and turn around to see where it is, it's right in your face, not right in front of that other person on the screen that you're controlling.

    In third person, the game is scaring the character you're controlling, in first person, the game is scaring you.

    As for immersion proper, I think it's definitely a shooter related thing. I find the Gothic games to be incredibly immersive, yet I only play them in third person. I find older titles such as Freedom Fighters, Giants and Messiah to be quite immersive, and again I played them all in third person, but outside of Freedom Fighters, none of those games are really 'true' shooters. Maybe it's because Freedom Fighters feels like an arcade game.

    Yet if I accidentally drop Oblivion or Morrowind back into third person, the magic is lost for a second while I frantically try and return it to first person. I imagine that immersion is more than just perspective, although it's definitely genre related in some sense. I can't honestly see the Thief games working in third person, even though the third one had the option. Yet I think that, say, Freedom Fighters, would have lost so much had it forced you to play from the perspective of the main character. And Medal of Honor would have been empty had you played from over the shoulder.

    On the flip side, Dead Space should have been first person, Resident Evil 4 and 5 lose so much for their perspective, and ... well I honestly can't think of a first person game that should have been third person, because I prefer first person for most things, but some games shouldn't have forced your outside the characters head.

    there's only a 1 in 1000 chance it would be observable now. We've found less than 1000 exoplanets, so the math doesn't work.

    It's actually a positive story about how the future of mankind is in peace and unification. But because it nullfies specific religions that hate to be sidelined or regarded on a level pegging with others, some garbage was added about how the person that becomes the key factor in this unification (you know, probably Bill Clinton or someone), is actually against god and wants to actually rule the world and that all the special people that still latch onto their archaic belief systems will be magically whisked away to a better place before all the shit goes down. Add in some specific numbers and attach meaning to them, because you know, if there is one thing that makes simple, ignorant people believe that what you're saying is actually some revealed truth, it's co-incidental number arrangements that couldn't possibly be anything other than divinely inspired, and hey presto, armageddon outta here.

    The posts give the impression of a well read adult. The lack of capitialisation gives the impression of a well read 15 year old. We all see it, just ignore it.

    What the hell? People actually hate Syndicate Wars? What is it that people don't like about it? Personally it's one of my all time favourite games, and I like it much more than Syndicate. True 3D, destroyable buildings, a much more convincing cyberpunk atmosphere, what's not to like? Even more, what's to hate?

    The d-pad on the 360 controller is terrible, the triggers on the PS3 controller are a total joke. There, I hope that helps.

    The 360 devs learnt nothing from the PS2, I can't remember if the Xbox d-pad is bad or not, I don't have any games that come to mind that need it a lot.

    And hopefully future game console developers learn from the PS3 mistake. Don't make triggers that are hard to keep held down and feel like they are constantly slipping.

    In the second city of Crackdown, with the red colored bad guys, go on the main highway roads that head over the ocean. Eventually you'll come to a part where the roads go into a tunnel. You'll know you're in the right spot if there is a billboard off to the side. Stand on the south entrance of this tunnel, with two bullet weapons, crouching near the railing just outside of the entrance to the tunnel. Cars come through this area incredibly fast. Free target the wheels on oncoming cars to watch the brilliant movie-style blown tyre flip over of cars. I do this for hours sometimes.

    Doom 2. Map01. Activate the secret door that contains the rocket launcher, by going up the top of the moving platform in the final room (with the windows that look outside) then run off so you land on the raised block, which opens the door at the end of the main corridoor further back, the part that has the dead end knob bit.

    Map02, unlock the grating to the left from where you start by going through the door across from the start point and pressing the button on the left down the end. Follow this corridoor and get your rocket launcher out and the door on the left half way down. Open the door, the shotgun guy sees you and comes walking towards, once he is in the middle of the four pistol guys that can't see you, fire.

    Mucho gibs. I must have done that about a million times. I think I even have a fraps video somewhere.

    Regenerating health is a combination of lazy design and lazy gamers, and possibly console-itis as well. Why bother spending the time trying to plan locations of health packs when you can simply have the player regenerate their health every time they haven't been shot for a few seconds. Consoles make it hard to quick save every few steps, which is obviously a good thing, but on the flip side, but nowadays the mainstream gaming audience don't relish the challenge, they simply want to finish it, or hammer endless multiplayer. So make it so their health regens and the challenge of fighting an uphill battle to the next health location is gone; the next health location is right where you are, just stand still and let the magic happen.

    all you have to do is hit a little button on the menu screen to beat the game.

    Try the latest Prince of Persia. All you have to do is push some buttons and push the stick in the right direction for long enough, and you're done. Apparently the story is enough to keep people intruiged and happy with the lack of challenge. Hahaha.

    In Gothic 1, after the main base camp goes into lockdown (for whatever reason, it's been so long since I've played it I can't remember why), you can turn yourself into a meatbug, and slip underneath the fence, and then just go to town. Because you don't kill people in that game until you stab them while they are down, you can get an insane amount of XP for knocking over every single person, and stealing all their gear, without actually going on a murdering spree and creating a ghost town (which is fun as well). Just make sure you can turn into a meatbug twice, so you can get back out again to continue the story.

It appears that it's simply attracted about 50 people, all of whom think they are the first person to think of the fact that while it found life, NONE OF IT WAS INTELLIGENT HAW HAW HAW. Apparently a sign of intelligent life is realising that your ideas aren't new and that you've likely been beaten to them, therefore all those posters comments were self-prophecising. Well done chaps.

    At any rate, this is a new story because, err ... it wanted to get to the other side. Did you make a typo there or something?

    Also, this is everything we should have expected and therefore it should be ignored.

    While we're at it, shouldn't we be spending this money on feeding the starving?
