Guess we went through the lifetime of laptops being new and fresh! Now it is time to upsize, kingsize, something else size your laptop with dual displays.
If you thought you weren't going to use it before, chances are you aren't going to use it now, but better hurry and get one while supplies last!
Hopefully, the trend will continue onward, and it will bring down the cost of realistic laptop gimmicks.
Thats a design implementation, not a feature locked into by any particular operating system.
Take for instance xmms (an mp3 player for linux which uses winamp skins), this program takes both command line arguements and the typical mouse clicks.
I generally log in to the box upstairs and change tracks from my laptop without using X sessions. Any gui based application can be targeted to function in both cli and gui mode, many do, but its simply a chocie for the author.
The only benefit to onemain was they did nothing. Well they trashed indy.net through the wonderful process of integration. Well I can't say they did nothing, they sure did spend alot of cash.
Better management, skill sets, and generally easier people to get along with, I rated Elink much higher internally.
Well a few years ago, when I was with lovely OneMame... er OneMain we recieved some lovely mouse pads, keychains and a cheap clock. I was in awe.
After they were purchased by Earthlink (good for onemame, bad for earthlink) we recieved this completely kick ass bonus. It wasn't really a christmas bonus, but a year end bonus based on churn and profit goals. If things went well the total bonus could be up to 10%. While I have complaints elsewhere with the company this was just beautiful.
This year with the new company I expect it to be rather minimal, but better then a mousepad.
In any case, I never expected year end contributions from the company and I have every intention of accepting whatever it is they decide to give.
Management, well, they will get big fat whatevers for making sure the drones do all the work.
Wearing higher level armor isn't necessarily a bad thing. It will certainly begin to wear out an incredibly fast rate, but you are guranteed some bonuses.
I could go over all the algorithms and explain all the details, but you will just have to trust me that it does balance out.
I don't quite get where the original poster had said it wasn't very challenging..../me shrugs and moves on.
I'm sure that announcement relieved some of the stress from the other games out there. The industry standard is more then one account and no matter what the reasons people expect it.
Personally I enjoy have an alt around. Over time even casual players will reach a certain maxim. When that happens for myself, I don't want to switch servers just to try out another character.
He spoke of building strong communities and in my opinion nothing will fragment this worse then players being forced to other servers to try another character.
We know the real reason, casually dressed behind user concerns, they want to keep the total cost per player down.
Not that I have played the game yet, but the quoted storage space was quite high with regards to what I have been accustomed too. If it is such a big deal, have the total storage space as a shared resource between all characters for a given account. (ie, shared vault but individual storage on characters). In the end, all the characters are married to each other via the account ID so this can't be terribly difficult to implement.
My other guess is the worry regarding twinking characters, but no matter what you do this is going to happen. You can limit this to an extent but it would create inflexibilities trying to completely remove it.
Again, no matter what problem they say this character limitation fixes it is going to happen. The only difference now happens to be SWG picks up a few extra bucks along the way.
What is really sad is they KNOW they can get away with it. Damn you Star Wars fans... just try to be picky for five minutes.
The last mission was a treaty mission with the martians. I know, I know, martians on the moon? Really it was the best neutral ground to perform negotiations. We simply gave up a few insignificant earthly possessions. This included but not limited to: cow and other livestock mutilations, rights to human extraction and experimentation, and artistic grants with respect to indentures in agricultural area's. With the latter in mind we had no idea it would get so out of hand.... something about an open sourced method they spoke about.
In return for all of these great gifts the aliens gave us excellent insight into the mysterious and powerful microprocessor. While it has taken all of this time just to fully understand and develop from those early examples.
However, it seems to be time to renew the contracts being as the aliens added the Moores Law clause. Damned tricky devils.
Don't worry though, with our next encounter, we are a great deal more advanced now with regards to patent and contract law.
I read about a dozen posts describing where many PDA's now sit inactively.
Myself, I can't really waste the funds on a PDA, but wouldn't mind trying one. I've managed to get this far in life without one and I suspect I can get a little further along. I'm not really sure HOW much more mileage I can squeak out.
Right around the corner I'm sure there is event I just can't truely enjoy without the use of mobile palm sized computing power. Sure, its all fun and games until someone loses a meeting schedule!
I'm just PDA impaired. It is something I have to learn to live with.
I hope the other geeks won't laugh at me in the office!
What would really worry me is if someone cracked into a high traffic sight and added this code. The havoc it would cause would be interesting. ie. slashdot or cnn.com tainted with such code.
Does anyone remember the time when Yahoo finally found that someone had edited the text on their frontpage. White on white text that could be highlighted. I don't know the details, but I knew about it long before yahoo discovered this.
It *can* happen, but now companies are definately more security cautious.
Fortunately, I use mozilla, I made the full time switch and lived with the minor bugs the day Gator mysteriously installed itself on my system while browsing with ie. (there was a previous story on the incident with that exploit).
I've been playing online with the xbox for a while now.
My only complaint are games have not been optimized for online play... This will change with the advant of Xbox live, I just hope someone gets a reverse engineered public service going soon. I wouldn't doubt MS has added some provisions to delay this kind of activity.
In any event, its just been neat to play with, but I've seen nothing stellar on Xbox that really would keep me coming back to the system. (Note, I do not own one, simply play around with a friends).
Nokia went on to say, they were quite displeased with the warchalkers or "thieves" efforts. Nokia said it would use all of its available resources to fight this growing problem.
A community reporter asked if Nokia would be educating admins on proper security over wireless networks and how to take steps to defeat possible intrusion.
A nokia spokesperson said that such efforts were futile and they would need a more proactive reproach to the situation.
After a long winded discussion on the possible future ramifications, they unveiled their new tool to defeat warchalkers.
Nokia has specifically trained these chimpanzee's to clean surfaces that have been chalked. The test program initiates in New York and will deploy 100's of monkey's across New York to deal with the existin threats.
A Nokia spokesman commented, "We trained these monkey's to identify chalk and wipe it from the premise. They have been issued squeegies and a safe chemical substance that will remove the chalk."
When asked what the monkey's would do for food the spokeman declined to comment. Later, they itterated there existed plenty of dumpsters in New York that would allow for the monkey's to forage.
After the statement, NY's growing population of homeless vagrants began a protest outside Nokia headquarters. While no representative could be approached for questioning, they were definately angry about their food supply dwindling to those damned dirty apes.

Myself and a group of friends did this a while ago as a project for an embedded systems class.
We web enabled the washer for status of the load and time remaining statistics. Completely removed the controls and inserted our own front end device. (Even custom made a replacement front end to fit our display)
We went for the simplistic approach and used a touch pad interface with a basic display. However, we did not make it a credit-op machine. It was intended to be free for the dorm rats to use.
This is a fairly easy retro fit and can be done for around 400$? (you have to work with some crappy gear though, no bells and whistles on a stripped down controller).
Damn, had I known throwing a credit card swiper on there would have made me famous....
With the big players, its often easier to purchase the more expensive equipment necessary to provide a thoroughly enjoyable experience towards its users. ie, corporate entities that can make mega-deals and grab huge discounts on gear.
Where would you recommend looking for the necessary equipment to create a smaller ISP. At some other organizations I've worked for, we have had jointly purchased equipment with other smaller ISP's for a price break. These smaller shops drying up or selling out in the wake of the dot com bust, I would like to hear your recommendations and approaches on this subject.
Ideally, if someone could list some affordable vendors of goods I would be overjoyed.
I ate this once, but it's not entirely good for you. Tastey, but not good.
IceCream Sunday++
*IceCream (I prefer the 3 flavor stuffs) *Reasonable Amount of Peanut Butter (Reasonable must be determined by the operator) +Nuts are optional, but recommended
Mix the components quite well... do it quickly before the IceCream melts. (not a good idea on a hot day)
Add chopped bananas into the mix.
Top with Swiss Miss cocoa mix (preferably with the little marshmallows).
Enjoy!
This little bugger was created when I decided to take anything that was remotely appealing to me at the time and mix it.
The first one I discovered when I was broke and we had various items of food in the house, but nothing to really feed the three of us. Well, one person could have eaten well, but the others would surely starve.
1 Large Can of Beef Stew (generic beef stew is actually better) 1 Small Can of Chili Magic (beans, meat seasoning stuffs) 1/2 Bag of stale corn chips (this is all we had)
Cook the stew and the chili magic together. I would use your best guess which would be infinitly better then mine. Once cooked, serve your stew with as many corn chips as you can grab.
Generally the more spices the better, as you can never go wrong there =D
I buy Linux Journal and Linux Magazine every month. Journal can be a bit dry sometimes, but it is worth a read.
I do recommend them to newcommers. They often have some very good articles that are just perfect for those getting into the game.
I've read some complaints where the focus is too great on code snippets and programming... but you will never hear me saying such ardasities!
Buy em, enjoy em and lend em to your friends!

I've been downloading ISO's and performing FTP installs since version 6.0. With 5.2 we simply had a burnt copy sent to us from a friend.
I'll vouche for RedHat that at least the distribution I had gotten my hands on was free of major install bugs and whatnot. Granted sometimes even simple things were broken (ie, service script didn't take arguements in 6.2!). Issues have always been taken care of quickly.
I'm going to go ahead and buy 7.3. It isn't that I don't have access to bandwidth (full ds3), but I think it is time for me to support my favorite distribution.

I've known about the flaw in the master key system for a long long time.
Actually, in many circumstances you can get by the mechanism by continually retrying and wiggling your key until the fit hits.
Its not guranteed, but its a little better then using a file.
SearchKing is circumventing the aim of google's page rank, by artificially inflating the value of their google rank.
They know partly how google's algorith works and they are abusing that. Google knows what they are doing and compensated for this.
It isn't just about crunching numbers and pushing the algorith about... the idea was to logically weight pages... not drop a lead brick on the scale.
