Why does everyone cry "monopoly!" or something similar when Microsoft has a #1 product.
AC poster = flamebait, but why not? I'm on lunch.

Because, for the 15 billionth time, they ARE a monopoly. To continue the repitition, it's not bad to be a monopoly, it's bad to abuse it. This isn't under debate, it's a matter of law. Old news, move along, nothing to see here.

For good and sufficient reasons, not the least of which M$'s own internal communications, a lot of people who spent a great deal of time and effort showed M$ was gleefully aware of abusing their situation. And were looking for ways to accelerate the process. The quality of M$'s products, which is very much debatable, is irrelevant.

Not only that, but using ms update restricts you to using ms signed drivers. I for one don't wish to give ms that particular club to wield over anyone. They've proven to me they aren't responsible enough to be far to anyone, so I don't think they are entitled to be the judge of anything that makes it to my machine.
Secondly, there's no way I can believe that ms would acquire your data and subsequently throw it away. None. They are gathering stats and keeping them.

We need to put a foundry and a small biome on the moon. From those, we can build from those supplies.

A good point! Here's something that has stumped me for years: Why in bejeepers is everyone gung ho about mars? We've got a perfectly good stepping stone that's 9/10's of the way to anywhere in our solar system parked about 300k kms from us! Not only that, should the need arise, it's conceivable in time of need those stationed there could be evacuated. Perhaps I've just read too much Robert Heinlein (Methusalah's Children, for one. )
If someone wouldn't mind elucidating why the moon is such a poor choice, I'd appreciate it. Please, don't let it be merely that the moon is less interesting politically.
