  1. Where can I find it? on Sam Lake on Video Game Storytelling · · Score: 1

Ok, call be a bit out of the loop for not having heard about this earlier, but for the past while I keep hearing this game being brought up... but when I try to find it I keep seeing it as out of print. Anyone know a place I can get this (and other out of print) title?

At the end of the day, seeing into outer space is not absolutely necessary for keeping the nation/world running in the state it currently is.

Although not 100% necessary, it sure is convenient to have an excuse to have a large chunk of your military force in the region with a large chuink of the world's oil supplies. That and we just have to prove we're the biggest, baddest SOB's on the block.

Nice concept. I agree that the Gamecube is a decent console

Now if only you could tell that to some game developers, so that they would actually start making some decent (ie not geared for 10 year olds) games for it. If there were more than 2 games I liked on it, I might consider purchasing one.

So Im not sure why its a big deal if MS is sending free CDs to the army, I imagine that they have a similar licensing arrangement as we (navy) do.

The issue is that the discs are being sent to individuals. This is seen as accepting a gift from a corporate entity, and is bad ethics for memebers of the military.

We just got E-Pubs and with it pages of documentation on how to burn a CD using WinXP.

Most people I know don't want pages of documentation. They want to know what they need to know to get the job done, no less, no more. If I am asked a tech question by a non-tech inclined person, I answer the question. Any time I have volunteered data I am greeted by anything from blank stare to having confused the person so much that it screwed up the answer to the question in their head. If they need to know more, they can ask me. I am quite readily available (and my work number is stuck to every single monitor in the company)

Most of the common addictions (nicoteine, alcohol, caffiene) have a short withdrawl period, usually just a couple of days.

I recall being taught in school (so remember to consume the appropriate amount of NaCl with this info) that the actual chemical addiction for nicotine is approx a week. So every urge beyond that week is all in the head of the formerly chemically addicted. Force of habit is quite strong.

  12. Stock Cars vs Open Wheel on Game Theory at 190mph · · Score: 3, Insightful

One reason that I prefer stock cars over their many open-wheeled cousins is that you get the door-bangin'. They can bounce off each other, plant a couple donuts, and still be okay. Which makes for more entertainment, IMO. Also, with NASCAR rules the way they are, the makes have to be manufactured in the US. Which lends the sport a bit of patriotic 100% American-ness. Ok, so that could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

  16. Re:Guide+ on RCA PVR Will Use Free Guide+ Program Guide · · Score: 1

I have had a RCA tv w/ Guide+ for a few years now, and love it. Ok, so sometimes it doesn't remember where I'm from (so all the channels end up wrong) and it doesn't know what channels I don't get, but otherwise it ain't bad. And the fact it doesn't know when a program moves, or becomes an extended version episode, or what have you. Which bites. That definitely needs improvement. For those of us still using VCR's, the ability to record on the VCR by selecting record from the program guide is great.

Somehow in JP2: The Lost World the black boy and the white girl got condensed into a black girl who has some relationship with Malcolm that I never fully understood because I was on a bus down to Fla when I was "watching" it.

Re Congo specifically: it has been said that the only way to enjoy that movie is, with a group of friends, have everyone pick a character. If your character survies, you "win". Win what, I don't know, but it at least keeps you paying attention.

All in all, I suppose this is why I own a crudload of books and about 5 movies, and the movies were gifts.

Now to something in which my knowledge is very vague: even if CG is cheaper, is it faster? I'm sure there are plenty of people who do not have the patience to oversee that long a project. And would it be fast enough to be practical for weekly TV shows? (or daily, in the case of soaps)
