I did notice that the "Network Info" widget in Konfabulator no longer shows my WAN address. Otherwise no problems on my 733 Quicksilver, and still buying a 15" Alum. PB.
I enjoyed your article immensely, especially when the Geek starts calling everyone 'bitch'. However, I can't quite get the gist of it.
Please repeat your experiment of 4 guys installing 15,000 dollars of equipment at my house, so that I may understand *exactly* the trials of learning to use technology.
Well, to change the battery, I had to take the screen apart and all the colors fell out!
I called Apple and they said that that wasn't covered under Applecare! I have a paper due, and have 16.5 million colors to put back! Your problems don't amount to a hill of beans, Mister!
Here we are (happily) updating our Macs, looking forward to things being fixed, updated and working better, not to mention new features and faster performance.
Has anyone out there *ever* updated Windows and expected it to *speed up* your computer?
I look at Windows update with dread - not knowing what evil new EULA, spyware, bugs and exploits await every trip.
Software Update is something that Apple got *so* right. People *want* to run it. Hell, I check twice a day! Do most Windows users even KNOW about Windows Update??
What effect will this have on the dip to chip ratio? Will this prevent breakage under load? Has anyone measured the performance benefits of salsa compared to sour cream and onion?
Most importantly, will I still need my ThinkGeek 'I am teh Chip Haxx0R' bib?
I've got a new 15" PB on order, and am looking forward to an Open-source based OS. Sure, Apple isn't all flowers and pumpkins, they've got DRM on iTunes - but that was necessary to offer the Store.
I've got issues with companies that try and 'slip it under the radar' like MS. Perhaps MS should realize that people like me who admin Windows machines, and switch to Mac are going to tell everyone who requests 'Computer Help' to grab a Mac. No viruses. Easy. Powerful. And sexy-hot.:)
With the advent of the G5 kicking ass and taking names, there is less and less reason to go with insecure, unpredictable, untrustworthy Windows.
In the upcoming episode of Enterprise, Captain Archer and Trip use PHP to reconfigure the ship's computer to stream hot hidden camera footage of T'pol to the captain's ready room.
The beautiful power of PHP never fails to impress me.
I just ordered a 15" PB that has a modem, network, wireless and Bluetooth built in. It has a PCMCIA slot that I'll most likely end up using for compact flash or if I get crazy, GPS?
I just don't see that much use for one anymore. Why a new form factor? Am I missing some killer app I haven't heard of?
Really, this dongle thing is getting out of hand...
The principal was heard to say, "If you collect enough Campbell's Soup can labels next year, you can take the vice-pricipal's photo, Mr. Lucas. Just don't photoshop me in with Jar-Jar."
"We won't discuss the details of our security procedures, but I can tell you that the Windows key will be superglued, and the Alt and Tab keys will be switched. We also plan on putting a peice of tape over the taskbar, so would be attackers can't see what's running."
"Also, an armed guard will be standing by each and every ATM. You'll give him your card and your pin number and he or she will get the cash out and hand it to you. This guard is authorized to shoot anyone who mistypes their PIN, or looks funny."
"We think that these security procedures will greatly reduce the risk of a worldwide economic collapse."
Why does running Windows alwasy seem to be more trouble than it's worth?
And how can we be sure Scrooge McBill doesn't electroniclly transfer all the money to his giant underground money bin and swim through it every night at 3 am?
Uh, yeah. Let's ask the most compulsive reloaders and refreshers on the internet when website monitoring goes too far.
According to the 'Book of Slashbot', "A slashdotter must POST first. First must he post, NOT last, but FIRST. Then these STEPS must be undertaken, AFTER the FIRST POSTING: Reload to see if anyone has replied to the POST, then read the article, then reload to see if its slashdotted yet, then reload slashdot to see if a change in karma has taken place, then reply AC to an IDIOT, then RELOAD the article to check your facts or make your argument, reload slashdot for KARMA updates or replies, and reloading to see what new posts HAVE BEEN made while reloading the front page to make sure a new story hasn't been posted while reading posts, replies, journals, post histories of idiots, your own posts, your past posts, your AC posts, your AC post replies, your list of friends, foes, FREAKS, and fans, and lastly, the article."
"One is allowed to slashdot stories in the future if one is a subscriber, or reads FARK. One should also watch for 'DUPES' as they are gifts of manna FROM heaven, allowing one to slashdot sites that thought their TRIALS and tribulations were over. Slashdot these heavily, so that THEY might leave the web, leaving their knowledge ONLY in your brain, to be quoted at a later date as fact and law, flaming those who whore for karma, and those fools who have not proven thy worthyness."
Yes. We're experts here. I'd quote more from the scriptures, but I've got some sites to take down by manically refreshing. *click**click**cliclickickety**click**clickick**cl ick**clicick**click**clickety*click**
Ask Slashdot is about getting advice from tons of people who may have done, experienced, or researched your particular issue themselves.
He's not asking/. to do his job, he's asking for input so *he* can do his job.
If you've gone through life having never asked a question and forged on ahead re-inventing the wheel, please post your name and contact information. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would like to refer you to work for their competitors.
Allow me to to *your* job.

I bought some little organizer to put phone #s in, and the damn thing crashed!, and took all my data with it. Sure, I could have written it all down, but that defeats the purpose. The worst 9.65 I ever spent.
At least with a secondhand Handspring, I can back up to a PC or Mac.
Now Royal offers PC serial backup, but what's the point? Spend a little more, get something more reliable, supported by 3rd parties, and compatable with Joe down the hall.
Royal should stick to making pink "Secret Diaries" for 12 year old girls.
#1 - Atari 2600 Pac-man. A poor, rushed, half-clone of the arcade version pissed off a lot of sugar-shocked kids.
#2 - I'd have to go with Call to Power: Civ 3. It was the first game that I was sorry I bought.
#3 Duke Nukem Forever. Yes, it's not out yet. Seriously - DNF better wank me off for the amount of crap I've had to listen to. I've been teased less by high-school girlfriends.
#4 Duke Nukem Forever. Make that two times.
#5 Outpost - I was lucky enough to have this hyped to me directly from a Sierra rep. I also remember a exceedingly high rating from a 'reputable' PC mag.
#6 Michael Jackson Baby Drop - great for those with flash and without Bejeweled.
#7 Karate Champ for the Apple II - I actually bought this, copied it, returned it, played it, deleted it. Wasn't worth pirating, or hyping. I just thought I'd throw it in there.
#8 Myst - I thought I turned my screen saver to 'Starfield'? I beat on this one because they won't let it die.
#9 Diablo II - I was addicted. I played it all the way through. Hours and hours. Hey, I get to do it all over again! Nethack for people who like to know how movies end before they see them.
#10 Slashdot - What good is Karma when you're maxed out all the time from insightful posts like mine? Trolling is fun, but still waiting for the good gameplay patch.
Best games? Nethack, Rescue Raiders, Quake 1&2, Fallout, Ultima Underworld, Civ 2, Simcity 2000, Castles (by Atari- find this rom!), Comet and Cyclone (pinball), RTCW(demo:), GTA 3, Defender and some cyber-robot football arcade game that I remember from Pop's Arcade in Minneapolis. ahh, good times...

"You call this a wireless mouse? More like a wireless HOUSE!"
"Hmm. I like what you've done with this cabling - it's very Feng-Schwing!"
"I hope you're going for a grainy, 'Kiss me Deadly' sort of thing with this greyscale monitor!"
"Nice X-Box! Can we move in? And the controllers...I haven't seen anything that big since we did Kevin Mitnik..ss house... ahem.."

Another reason I just gave Apple my money.
Any guesses as to when Panther will be released? I have to wait until Nov 3rd! until I get my 15" PB! I'm hoping it will be included...

The new marketing buzzword is 'Shit-Hot', as in "The new Intel Shit-Hot P4!"
Thanks.

I'd be very curious to see how many others are being screwed in this manner. Where's my 150,000 x 6?

We added a 5th winner by popular demand! It's the *people's* choice!FP!
A librarian peeked around the corner to see where the noise was coming from, then put her finger to her lips and said, "Ssh!"
The kids ignored her and kept talking, completely and utterly exploiting the hole, and circumventing the 'Ssh'!
Never was I so frightened.
Sure, Bill, the brakes look great! Drive faster!
