You will find that Stuffit is no longer included, and that Stuffit has somehow overnight turned into another Realaudio, where you are required to jump through hoops and navigate 3 pages and wait for an email just to download the 'free' version, and that installs a menubar icon, and signs you up for spam. Sweet!
Admittedly, less software is being packed with Stuffit, and the built-in 'archive' works great. I had to grab the old version when I ran an 'archive and install' from my old restore disc, because there's still some stuff out there that uses it.
I'm rather disappointed that Stuffit has gone the way of Real, but oh well. Nothing like digging your own grave. I'll be interested in seeing how Stuffit is doing in 6 months.
It's rather telling that that is my biggest annoyance I've found so far - Tiger rocks.
IE and MS make the internet and basic software interoperability suck for everyone.
Including me.
So call me selfless, or selfish, but it's in my own best interest to have more bandwidth from less trojan, spam, and virus traffic, and it benefits me to have websites render identical in Safari as Firefox.
It all comes down to my wants and needs. If others get a bonus from it, I guess that's ok, just as long as my needs are served first and foremost.
It's the same attitude that drives our current Administration, except I don't get paid money.
Could someone hack a firmware update that fails to encrypt the white balance, ala the iTunes hack - getting the data before it's encrypted, so as not to run across the DMCA?
We see these things with DVD burners (Powerbook) and such. How many hardcore geeks with the capability to do this have a Nikon camera though...my guess is that it was avoided in the first place.
The people in charge don't want good design. They want plausible deniability.
When we've got a government that doesn't cater to its own survival, and politicians that are held accountable for their actions and inactions, those in charge will desire good design, as that will make serving the public easier, more transparent, and more efficient.
Until then, it will just call attention to the fact that the American people are getting screwed.
Kind of like the snake eating it's own tail - there's just no room for anything but itself.
Jim Allchin, Microsoft's group vice president for platforms, looked at my Apple PowerBook and smugly pointed out that the number of copies of Windows sold this year will be more than all the Macintosh computers used worldwide.
Jim, I'm not going to be one of those people, ever again. I don't care if you're smug. I'm happy using a computer (my powerbook), with an OS that is fantastic, and makes it easy to do things that were difficult, and possible to do things that I thought I'd never be able to do.
Jim, since I know you're reading this - it really is too late. Ever since I went Apple, I can't believe I suffered through your excuse for an OS, and I never miss a chance to show other poor savages what they're missing.
So good luck. I'm actually starting to think you're going to need it.
I'm trying to run the mac port of Doom3 on OS 10.3.8 under CherryOS running on Virtual PC on OS 9.2.1 running on Pear PC using OS X 10.2.4 under Guest PC running BeOS on my G3 Beige Mac.
All I'm getting is a black screen. Is there something wrong, or am I playing the game already?
This sounds like a perfect way to have the Justice department serve Microsoft tea and cakes again, while asking if they are comfortable, and if they can get Sir Bill a pillow for his feet.
And those pricks at MS are making it difficult. Not to mention that they are waiting til they have their own implementation out.
Dicks.
If Bill had to wipe his ass with the TP the 'rest of us' use, we wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately for us, he uses only the freshly washed hands of his underlings' children.
Well, Mr. Knowledge, where exactly is the line? And who (other than you) gets to decide what makes a journalist?
I have been under the impression that if you wanted to be a baker, a musician, a construction worker, or a railroad baron, you granted yourself that title, and there you were. It doesn't make you good or qualified, but there certainly are enough poor, unqualified people doing those jobs at present.
Just look at the 'Slashdot Editors'. Are they *really* editors? Are they good? Can they call themselves editors?
So back it up...where's the line? You work at a newspaper? So, the Salon guys aren't journalists? You need a circulation of 10,000? So the local news reporter isn't? Are people allowed to label themselves?
Meh. Why your comment is modded insightful, I can't figure.
It could be argued that shows like Star Trek were directly responsible for the successes of NASA, by getting people interested in space.
While I'm typing, why not ask why the War is using over 10 times the budget that was promised?
I'd rather have 'Enterprise' or the Voyager program than the War on Terror (otherwise known as 'the easiest way to siphon funds, rule by fear, and look busy at the same time').

Why would you wait for 2 years for 'bouncy icons' in the first place?
Why are you looking at desktop hardware when you've been waiting for a laptop?
How do you get through a day when you don't even know who you are, or what you want?
Congrats on your new laptop. I'm sure you won't miss a thing.
Yes you can change it - mine is option-space, as Launchbar is too handy as cmd-space. You can even assign it to a F-key.
I'm sure some Mormons were looking forward to the ability to censor movies for themselves, and frankly they should be able to.
So when are we all going to go turn ourselves in by the guilty millions, and plug up the courts, and bring some ridiculous attention to this?
Oh. Right. We don't *do* things anymore.
Including me.

I just ran Hardware Update, and everything is much snappier!
At least the market kicks the ass of those foolish enough to try this stuff.

Sheesh. No wonder AMD is spanking them.
Save the libraries! Grab the T-Bar!
After 5,6, and 7 with no sign of adding it for 8, I'm glad that Apple didn't buy them. Can't say I'm glad that Adobe got them either.
Well, back to studying for my Caltech entrance exams.
Anyone here know how to blow up a baboon?
All I'm getting is a black screen. Is there something wrong, or am I playing the game already?
You can thank me later.
Gleaning the Code!
Ugh. I'm going to slam my head in a car door now. Rad.

DAMN YOU, GATES!
Why bother? Most members of Congress didn't read it before passing it. In fact, IIRC, it wasn't even provided in a written form before voting.
Why should I have to read it to have an opinion on it?
