I don't think people can afford $400 for xbox 360 or 600 if they want same functionality as the PS3. I don't think price is a big concern in the era of credit cards and huge personal debt. now $250 for nintendos machine is probably the sweet spot regarding price (impulse buy) but its lack of HD resolution means it will look weird on HD sets. I think I read that in the US 1 out of 6 TV sold are now HD so some people are going to be upset that the new nintendo doesn't look quite right on their new TV.

But with people boycotting them over everything from rootkits to Lik-Sang, PLUS Sony's extremely poor E3 presentations, PLUS their general arrogance when handling the public, I seriously doubt that they're going far this generation."

Stop believing that a majority even knows and even if they did know that would care about any of those assholish and idiotic actions by sony. Only slashdotters and diggers and other like sites know about those problems with sony and even not all of them are against sony. Most people simply dont give a fuck about what goes on in the background of -any- given corporation.

Myself I wont be getting a PS3 because at the moment it is too expensive for me. My original xbox is a good enough media player and game machine. If the PS3 gets hacked or has an option get full mediacenter.de type functionality then I might save up for one. Its the same reason I didnt get the xbox 360.

I wouldn't agree that Mark Cuban is an idiot I will say that he is a tool. He used to be on the side of consumers that are getting fake HD from Directv and Dish Network then one day its like no big deal.

Fake HD being 1920x1080i transcoded to 1280x1080i or 1440x1080i and reduced bit rate beyond what the lowering of resolutions would provide for. Sometimes the "HD" that they send looks like a bad xvid encode.

One of these formats will fade away as will regular DVD. 19. Re:Who needs cable? on New MythTV Based PVR Available · · Score: 1

Subchannels = the death of HDTV. That is you like your HDTV all full of macroblocking everything there is a scene change. But that is beside the point I think over the air HDTV is going to fade away as more and more stations run more programs on subchannels. Eventualy I think HDTV from the broadcast networks will end up being a premium service on cable/FIOS and satellite systems ( I dont really consider satellite a true HDTV source especialy directv which transcodes all 1920x1080i to 1280x1080 and reduces the bitrate signicantly so that it is just DVD or slightly better then DVD). The stations will run a direct link of the full HDTV feed to the cable/FIOS etc and probably just send a 16x9 720x480p of the network programming over the air with the crap subchannels like weather and informercials.

Here is the website with DirecTV bit rates for HD http://www.widemovies.com/dfwbitrate.html
