I'm in Los Cabos. DSL coverage is pretty good since about 2 years ago Prodigy came in under the wing of Telmex, the phone company. In bigger cities, I'm sure there is some competition, but not much.
DSL through prodigy costs either 300 dollars installation and 50 dollars/month, or 60 dollars/month for 2 years (256k). A friend of mine ordered it for 60/mo. then upgraded to a 512 line, and he didn't have to pay the extra 10 dollars per month anymore, only the standard 80/mo. this is not guaranteed to work, though.
here's a link to prodigy infinitum (DSL) coverage in mexico: http://www.prodigy.com.mx/int/cobertura_4 .html
people around here can't make the money to justify the cost of just the OS. as an internet cafe buying OEM software because there was no other option available, according to the support at MS with whom i spoke, windows xp home and office xp small business (because that's all we could get) for 10 computers: $3200.00 hmmm.... so they can charge 3 dollars an hour?
...cash flow is lower here, and nobody's going to investigate here.
i try the linux thing. i can't switch most people over. i couldn't charge the internet cafe enough to justify the work it would have taken to set them up with a userfriendly system.
over the past 2 years, i've found userfriendly to mean much more friendly than i ever imagined.
i agree. i just don't agree under the circumstances. mexico city has a square where they sell pirated software.
it's ok because it's freeware. what keeps microsoft from making proprietary machines is the market, not their code of honor. it's a bad idea.
a monitor is not a portable mp3 player, most of which come bundled with software anyway. iTunes is designed for making money. Kazaa is designed for making money. Kazaa Lite K++ circumvents negative things people don't like about Kazaa, and so people use it.
your analogy is bad. if a browser came bundled with windows and would only work on a windows monitor, there would be no way to acquire another browser freely over the internet. with a music program, you use your browser to download another one.
if microsoft restricted monitor use, they would cease to exist. i stopped paying for windows after my first experience with the product activation.
as a computer technician, what do i tell ALL my clients? it's really a lot more convenient to install a pirated copy of Pro Corp. than a legal version, because if you do it legally you've Microsoft breathing down your neck. maybe their activation has helped them earn more money, but they have lost about 1500 dollars on my account because of making my life inconvenient.
they're gonna try and make money somewhere. the iPod's a great piece of equipment.
i agree that it would be nice to be able to use other devices with iTunes, but they're limiting the use of iTunes, not limiting the use of the Nomad, Rio, etc.
movie seats piss me off. and large people's bodies tend to wear quicker because of the extra weight, and because they can't sit comfortably in flights, etc.
i find it bizarre that back/knee pain is a triviality to you. but maybe that's because you're a midget.:)
here's a summary of my post: 1. eat less, more often 2. eat more fruit, and fewer processed foods 3. don't drink soda 4. don't beer 5. don't eat at night 6. eat right when you wake up 7. eat lean meats 8. skip fast food 9. find some sort of exercise you like, and do it 10. drink lots of water
as far as eating goes:
first off, if you drink soda, quit it. quit diet soda as well, it makes you crave carbs (and causes cancer and sight loss, but that's another story). this is the easiest thing to change, considering the returns. be careful of any drink with calories, because it's generally sugar. just drink lots of water. even limit juices.
don't eat fast food at all, it has way too many calories.
reduce your carbohydrate intake, especially to counteract the beer, which is carb-heavy. when you eat carbs, try to go for natural food, and avoid processed sugar. generally, the lower the caloric density is, the better it is for you (calories divided by weight), so an equal amount of calories from an apple is much better than from a cookie. the lower the caloric density, the more your body has to work to get the calories, raising your metabolism. this should also give you more sustained energy throughout the day.
also, you can watch the glycemic index of stuff, which is how rapidly your body turns it into blood sugar. there is loads of information on this for diabetics. the lower the glycemic index, the longer it takes for your body to metabolize it, so you will have energy longer, and won't get hungry as quickly.
beer's a bitch. if you have to drink, learn how to drink liquor without getting shitfaced. it doesn't have all the calories beer has.
eat right when you get up, because it starts your metabolism. eat something high in fibre. i generally eat yoghurt with fruit and bran, or oatmeal with protein powder. don't eat at night, or eat a salad with a light dressing, maybe oil & vinager.
eat more salad in general. watch out for breads, try eating only whole grains. buy leaner meats: chicken breast instead of chicken legs, lean ground beef, fish, etc.
and definitely try to eat 4 or 5 smaller meals a day if you can, and take your own food to work. eat once every 2 or 3 hours. if you can pull it off, do the zone diet for a couple weeks so your body feels what it's like not to eat a bunch of crap, and then relax the standards a little.
for exercise, i do pilates and dance. i run when i can, and do crunches. yoga's really good. it would probably be a good idea to take at least a few classes until you're used to it and get the general idea of something. maybe go to the gym with a personal trainer, and tell them your goal isn't to gain muscle mass, but to increase your stamina and tone your muscles. both dance and pilates have had great results for me after a few weeks, i feel it's a lot more balanced than the gym, but it depends on what keeps you motivated.
have some girl be your personal trainer if you get one. it's more fun.:)
don't worry about people looking at you funny, they probably did before and you hadn't noticed. and good luck.
i feel sorry for all the innocent afghanis who had to live through the US dropping bombs on them, now bill gates. i don't know if bombs are worse, or billions of shiny windows xp home cds.
without licenses, of course. you think bill's stupid?
adaware doesn't block spyware and adware, it removes it. i think adwatch will tell you if something is running, but it comes with AdAware pro, which you'd have to pay for or pirate.
EVERYONE, download spywareblaster (www.javacoolsoftware.com). it disables the activex controls for autoinstalling spyware. update it and protect against all items. i have never had trouble caused by this program.
spybot - search & destroy (security.kolla.de). update it, and under Immunize, click the immunize button. then tell it to block all bad pages. as far as i can tell it uses a blacklist, so it won't block friendly pages or popups. you can have it do it silently, or if you don't trust it, have it pop up a message whenever it kills a page.
sb-s&d is stronger than adaware removing spyware.
also at javacoolsoftware is spywareguard which is an app that runs in realtime and protects the ie hosts file from change. with all three programs installed, i went to xupiter.com with no adverse effects.
the interview didn't mention that many educational game titles. since people view videogames as bad, people are more reluctant to buy educational video games.
you can learn studying the structure of video games. quake is a structural wonder. the first real 3d open world with decent physics. quake's gameplay could be boiled down to a science, and you could kill any and all monsters with your axe if you had the stucture down.
except zombies.
i don't think at any point video games were presented as a replacement for books, but as an additional learning tool. if people see games as a learning tool instead of just a scourge on a child's mind, games will be more productive.
tell a child he's rotting his brain while doing it, he will rot his brain. point out structure and artistry, the child will try to understand the structure and artistry.
the base reason something like quake (or any shoot-em-up) is valuable is the human brain developed as a result of tactics of hunting, and our brains appreciate on occasion being able to use such abilities. speculation about how hurt your opponent is, WHERE he is, what he's going to do when he runs into the room.
what makes a good deathmatcher is mental ability. twitch reflexes and a low ping definitely help, but so does a functioning brain.
i don't always understand doctors when they are speaking medical jargon. but people don't talk about dumbing down medical speak.
we need to take into account that tech speak is relatively new. it used to be that people knew LESS about the medical field, LESS about cars, LESS about science.
but instead of changing the name of gravity to "downForce TX" people just kind of used to it.
yes, we call coronary infarctions heart attacks, but you still have numbers i don't understand for blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol. who here ACTUALLY knows what cholesterol REALLY is?
"sir, i don't mean to alarm you, but your blood plaque is in the red zone. not just red, but the little indicator light is FLASHING."
"Trying to twist Microsoft's arm..." I just had the most distubing image pass through my mind of Bill Gates being physically harmed. It WAS kind of funny, though.
I was going to say something about jet fuel not being the same as rocket fuel, and calling everyone on slashdot (bar myself, of course) an idiot, but I think I was beaten to it.
I would tend to trust the guy who said he didn't receive an adapter, considering the fact that one person said it CAME with and adapter, doofus, and the other said the video card has dual outs, doofus.
So I wonder who of the three is the one who's NOT a doofus? Is it possible that the first models came out with no adapter until people complained, causing them to release an adapter with the cube until their stockpile ran out so they could manufacture new ones with the built-in dual video outs?
Geez, what are we here? Doofuses?
*waits in anticipation for someone to call him a doofus*

no wait, i administrate an internet cafe with 10 computers, plus a few other businesses, which is about 4000 dollars SRP, right there.
plus my other clients. plus me.

can someone explain to me why it's packaged with OS X? it made me sick to my stomach when i saw it.
they're gonna try and make money somewhere. the iPod's a great piece of equipment.
i agree that it would be nice to be able to use other devices with iTunes, but they're limiting the use of iTunes, not limiting the use of the Nomad, Rio, etc.
it's a free app supporting a piece of hardware.
you can also run away from short chicks, especially with high heels. i've never had to, but i am prepared. women terrify me. the smaller the better.
//But I don't think I've ever seen her fling herself at me.
i've had women fling themselves at me and believe me, it hurts.
you were being sarcastic.
good for you.

a ha heh heh....
just when i was feeling comfortable among my gas-passing, dangly-bejeweled bretheren.
and and amazon woman, no less. ah, nerves.

its a great group of programs.
the funny thing about matrix: reloaded here in mexico is the translation. recargado is reloaded, but also "leaning on something"
so it looks to be the most mellow matix so far.
neo! he fights! he flies! he smokes marijuana! then he leans on shit for a while!
...like you've got your shit together. :-)
congrats.

Having flashable firmware means it'll be a week before some geek fixes it.
