The IQ is not and was not meant to be something to mean anything other than a test for these kids who are clearly functioning below normal standards. The Republican party also has the majority of people who have the lowest income and are farmers and other such work, and more religious and less scientific. Saying the Democrats are poorer or less educated is a joke. All the top states for education are also Democratic. Grow up.

As business clientele tries to become more tech savvy, regular stewardesses will be slowly supplanted with geeks. I am sure that a business person who just paid $30 to use the Internet would rather have a techie help him figure out how to connect than a stewardess, right?

So, these regular employees are now being threatened by US, technology people, because OUR jobs have been taken. How funny is that? That's right, you think you can move our jobs? Well, the geeks won't die off, they will just take YOUR JOBS. Then of course, as all stewardesses have become techies, at that point, people will realize that we can replace these american techies with FOREIGN techies picked up in foreign airports in the morning and dropped off in that foreign airport in the evening (for intercontinental flights.) Just like american stewardesses live in america and fly back and forth then go home in America, the foreigners will do the same, but on our planes. We'll just pick them up in their home cities when our planes fly there, and they will end their shift when we land back in their country and they get off. :/

they seem cool, but they are unpractical:

    1) screens become easier and easier to break as they are already expensive enough that making sure the thing actualy lasts (i.e., quality control) would make it cost prohibitive to actually sell a ton of them--at the same time, people compare them to laptops or agendas or plain pieces of paper, so they res has to be good, everything else coming after it.

    2) to get stockholders, the pda's have to sound awesome technologically. It doesn't matter to Palm if the screens break easily.

The problem with PDA's is that we assume that they are PDA's! Like actual things you can carry and not worry about. Like actual computers that are just smaller, that's all. Uh, no. You get the hassle not being able to leave it around by itself because it can be easily pocketed in .03 seconds while you could trust a friend to actually watch a notebook computer for you while you are away, on the other hand.
if you barely use one, there will still be a way to screw it up (probably the screen.) If you use one all-the-time, then think about that as well.

It is NOT a "$500 investment for the next five years" just because it has software that can open common file formats, and the screen is getting sharper. The freaking thing can drop and break instantly, like no other electronic object ever. Drop your watch, mp3 player, who cares? Even if you bust the LCD on the mp3 player, who cares, the player is still useful. However, on a pda, replacing such a part is very expensive, especially as these devices keep getting newer and never, the latest and most expensive of screens.

I would say to just save the money and buy an OLDER pda if you really need one, since technology is moving very fast and reviewers never care about it actually lasting the five years that would make a $500 purchase worth it. The thing is FRAGILE. Sony, HP, Dell, Palm are competing on tech specs to win the pda war, never mentioning that the new pdas are getting less about being a solid product and more on making it as loosely constructed as possible to accomodate all that crap while reducing the size.

    1) In theory, it sounds feasible, but I don't see how it can be done practically. For one, I've dabbled in computer programming, and the most popular game libraries, Direct3D and OpenGL, are 3D libraries, I think.

    2) Two, maybe I don't know about games too much, but in my experience, all controllable object models must be able to launch particles, and have multiple weapons. Again, I am not an expert, but that is from my experience ( I am 14 years old.) But I think there is some limitation like that Microsoft's Denomination Library Network explains. All games controlled by keyboard and rendered and sample game source code projects have a shooting mode, ALWAYS. So you can see that I am not stupid.

Or--people buy alcoholic beverages without any sense that it makes them susseptible to rapes, accidents, anger flares, smaller brain size, and irreversible changes in the brain. Might as well hit your head with a frying pan, it'd be cheaper--but don't tell people that! Show them young couples being successful and loved and cool because they drink--THAT's the kind of logic people want!

I LOVE THIS PLANET! But saying people buy bottled water is stupid is stupid. Why? PEOPLE ARE TRICKED INTO DRINKING sugary shit that ferments in the mouth and grinds away teeth, spikes your insulin level and drops it to the point that you can't function for the rest of the day, makes you fat and gives you diabeties ( a medical condition, not a cold or something temporary, but an OLD PEOPLE DISEASE). The people buying water are the ones who used to buy soda. When they see soda in the store, they buy water instead. At home, they consume that water instead of the soda they would otherwise be consuming. Of course, the next step in being a free-from-marketing person would be to bottle your own water, obviously, but the intermediate step of buying water is the step in the right direction--obviously coming from people who used to buy soda. You know that people don't just buy bottled water who have been fine drinking water from the fountain for 30 years (unless their water has become polluted)--no, the people buying water are the ones making the switch from soda and who are on the way to realizing THEY DONT HAVE TO BUY non-organic SHIT AT THE STORE PERIOD and that they can use their own water at home.

  25. Lycos was awesome on For Sale: Lycos.com · · Score: 4, Interesting

I only know the company only by their English web site - Lycos.com, having never spoken Spanish ever as far as I can remember.

Lycos was very important to the world.

    They had:

    1) A web search engine. Who else had a web search engine besides Yahoo and AltaVista?

    2) A web hosting service. Who else had a web hosting service besides GeoCities and AngelFire?

    3) An e-mail service. Who else had an e-mail service besides Yahoo and Hotmail?

    4) Web games. Who else had web games besides Yahoo and MPlayer?

    5) News stories. Wait, no they didn't. I know Yahoo had those.

All of the above was sarcastic.

As you can see, in all five important areas, Lycos was not in the top of each one. Sure, you knew they had each of those, but they weren't leaders at all in ANYTHING. Their idea seemed to be to JUST EXIST and the millions of people on the Internet couldn't just all flock to Yahoo or AltaVista, right? There would always be room for Lycos, right? Even without R&D? A portion of the Internet would use Lycos regardless of competition, and as Internet use grows, Lycos would grow in popularity, right?

Uh, no. They thought, if there are 5 stores in a mall and they are one of them, passerbys, who were in the mall for one of the other stores, many of htem would still visit Lycos, right? Or at least look in. Makes a lot of sense.

However, the Internet is not like that. You could place a store next door to a competitor and steal his visitors. You can place a phonebook ad and steal your competitors visitors as their clients check the phonebook for your competitor's phone number but see your ad next to it. With the internet, an analogy is links connecting the dots. HOWEVER, the problem is, THERE ARE NO LINKS TO COMPETITORS. In other words, if you visit one guy's site, HE WILL NOT HAVE ANY LINKS POINTING TO HIS COMPETITOR'S SITE. Furthermore, all links will be designed to keep you INSIDE HIS OWN SITE. Therefore, actually LIMITING your awareness of other sites.

So, Lycos thought (apparently by their lack of R & D) that they would just advertise and exist and as people flock to Yahoo and Google, they would get a share. Uh.. NO?

The one major remaining portal is Yahoo. They are still leaders in e-mail, games, bought GeoCities, searching, and they had news on their site as long as I can remember. All of Yahoo!'s competitors just 'existed'. Just like hundreds of businesses 'exist' but nobody cares about them. Yahoo made you involved in their life. Yahoo is still kicking, having bought Overture, GeoCities, WebRing, Inktomi, HotJobs: God knows what else.

Even now, with Google doing what they do, Yahoo! is still the overall winner and success story.
