I wonder how much Longhorn is going to cost exactly? A combination of Microsoft's obviously declining userbase and 5+ years of development costs needing to be covered is going to mean Longhorn's pricetag will have to be pretty steep if MS is going to profit directly from it.
Haven't more than a few corporate customers already footed the bill for this via the Licensing 6 plan?
Simple Solution:
Put a smoothwall box or another router between your home network and the new cable modem (as I'm sure many of us already do). Although the wireless access would be nice to use, 802.11b/g access points are pretty cheap these days.
even simpler solution: buy one of the many many many available router/wifi AP combos out there and don't pay the extra charges that comcast wants you to pony up...
But where are the ones that offer an "iPod Mini Dock", you know, just slide the think into a slot like a tape desk but shaped for the Mini. I dont' see these poping up anywhere.
What a brilliant idea!!! It's not like Apple never changes the size, shape, or connection that these things use. Not to mention that the iPod mini has been shipping for what, 3 months? I can't possibly fathom why somebody wasn't selling something like this months ago...
Didja see the new lens-flare algorithms? They're 16% more realistic than anything ever seen before. (Requirements: Dual P4, 300 gigs available on HD, 2 gigs RAM, etc...)
sweet! i guess that longhorn is gonna be using lensflares all over the place...
sheesh! i took more math classes than that [quantity and depth] and i walked out of school with a geology degree. i honestly would've thought that CS would involve far more math than a major for guys who hang out on the side of the road licking rocks [it was to test for granularity]...
Hmmm...Pentium 4 vs Athlon 64??? Well, I know that 64 is a much larger number than 4. And athletes like to to work hard. So I'm putting my money on the Athlon 64. Geez guys, simple logic really...
Well, when you put it like that it sounds like you could be describing any other form of entertainment - be it music, movies, or teevee [as well as some others I'm sure]. Bland media empires being built out of the ashes and ruiins of once great smaller/independent developers. Yup, it all works the same. Remember, support the independents as much as you can in whatever way you can! They are the ones who truly shape and drive the landscape.
In all that time, the only game console that was backwards compatible before the release of the PS2 was the Atari 2600/5200/7800, and AFAIK the 5200 and 7800 did pretty poorly
the 5200 advertised the ability to play 2600 games. what few people realize, however, is that this involved purchasing a cartridge adapter [which i believe ran about 100 bucks] as well as atari 2600 controllers to hook up to the adapter. for people who still had usable 2600 controllers, this was fine. however, all in all, it typically ended up costing more than just buying a 2600 to continue playing your 2600 games.
...If that's counted along with their work on NeXTSTEP->OSX, then that's 17 straight years of UNIX experience within the company.
and let's not forget their dabblings with MkLinux [mach based linux for ppc] that started in 95 or 96...btw, is there any meaningful relationship between mklinux and darwin, other than both running on mach?
Who in their right minds would ACTUALLY follow the steps here?
i totally agree with you about the absurdity of the whole situation. however, i will admit that i know someone who will follow these instructions to a tee. my roommate refuses to listen to anyone when they recommend using an alternate browser [firebird, mozilla, and opera have all been suggested numerous times by numerous people]. instead i get to sit there and laugh at him while he bitches about popups, security holes, and having to copy/paste links into notepad to make sure they really go somewhere he wants to go. i truly get the feel that some people purposefully put themselves through pain to try to make a point. what that point is, however, is totally lost on me...
1) read the trilogy in order [starting with #1 and ending with #5] 2) move on to tv shows, radio drama, infocom game, etc only after step 1 has been completed
Guh! Wireless speeds of 400 Mbps...Any chance this can give you cancer?
d'oh! i should read the children comments before answering a parent...
not sure if this is the same, cos i obviously can't be bothered the RTFA, but here are some clips for you...
It's so you can track your kids! Or, umm, so your wife can track you?

I give them credit for the attempt to make a "2d barcode" sound like it is somehow more than -- you know -- the one on my box of Lucky Charms.
/. will answer is far far easier].

Is it time to figure out what to do when your Napster WMA files go unsupported after Napster 2 dies?
easy! you just sync up your flash-based mp3/wma player one last time and make sure you keep a lifetime supply of batteries handy...duh!
