I'm a troll, and I'll tell you. The reason I troll is because I'm forced to read slashdot because its a good tech news website, but I also use windows and hate open source and linux and in general disagree with most of the agendas being pushed on slashdot. So I troll as an AC as a way to vent my rage. If you want to reduce the number of trolls of slashdot, fix the corrupt moderation system so that my pro MS comments have a chance of not being modded troll. I think the first step would be to remove unlimited mod points from the editors (Michael).

One more thing, the grandparent was not a troll, but a flamebait.

  10. Re:Downloading is worse than the library on Are We About To Enter The Age of Book Piracy? · · Score: 1

the library only has one copy of each book

Libraries will have more copies of popular books. I remember when 'The Lost World' came out my local library had about 30 copies of it. Also, I think the library argument is good. Not thinking about new books, which tend to have a long waiting list, you can go to the library and get any book that is older than about 2 years for free and you can keep it for as long as you want by renewing it. I really don't see how this is any different from going to the library. You also say that if less people go to the library politicians will give them less money. Think about that, online distrobution of books is like a free library, books can be copied and distributed at no cost to anyone. I'm not sure what the justification is for having libraries, and why it dosn't hurt the publishing industry more than it does, but I really don't see "book piracy" as being much differnt.

I know contractions think must think like the greatest thing in the world, but in this case, you want to say "we have", not "we've". I'm not sure what the specific rule is about that, but the way you wrote it is wrong. All I can say is that using a contraction in that case just dosn't sound right.
