50 years ago most boys aged 15-25 were fighting in a war with real guns and killing real people. How many of them came back and started shooting at people?
Assume an elephant weighs about six tons, she says, that would mean that water inside a typical cumulous cloud would weigh about one hundred elephants.
I'm a troll, and I'll tell you. The reason I troll is because I'm forced to read slashdot because its a good tech news website, but I also use windows and hate open source and linux and in general disagree with most of the agendas being pushed on slashdot. So I troll as an AC as a way to vent my rage. If you want to reduce the number of trolls of slashdot, fix the corrupt moderation system so that my pro MS comments have a chance of not being modded troll. I think the first step would be to remove unlimited mod points from the editors (Michael).
One more thing, the grandparent was not a troll, but a flamebait.
Solution: pay someone to develop this software

If this software is so important then why not raise some money and pay some developers to work on it. If the creators really believe in the project they should be confident that they'll make the spent money back in support (or at least t-shirt sales)
Libraries will have more copies of popular books. I remember when 'The Lost World' came out my local library had about 30 copies of it. Also, I think the library argument is good. Not thinking about new books, which tend to have a long waiting list, you can go to the library and get any book that is older than about 2 years for free and you can keep it for as long as you want by renewing it. I really don't see how this is any different from going to the library. You also say that if less people go to the library politicians will give them less money. Think about that, online distrobution of books is like a free library, books can be copied and distributed at no cost to anyone. I'm not sure what the justification is for having libraries, and why it dosn't hurt the publishing industry more than it does, but I really don't see "book piracy" as being much differnt.
What possible harm is there in grabbing a rom of a game that was on the market 20+ years ago and who's company has not existed for 10+ years?
What possible harm is there in running over a homeless person? They gave nothing to society, they were probably going to commit crime, you've done a good thing right?
The issue is that you're breaking the law (copyright law) and its not up to you to decide which laws to follow or not.
In case of an emergency onboard an aircraft I will literally bet my life on the instincts of a human being over the computational prowess of machine.
I'm sure there will always be a certain number of people like you, and so there will be a market planes that are flown by pilots. But when the cost of flying with a pilot is 10 times more than flying an automatic plane, I think a lot of people will take the money saving option. Also, if the automatic planes have a flawless record over a certain number of years, it will probably change some minds.
I am a gamer and a geek and proud, meaning I don't have to feel ashamed that I would rather play a game then watch "Must See TV".
What makes you weird isn't that you would rather play games than watch TV, its that you would rather play games than go to a party where you might actually have to talk to some people or there might be girls.
You said you are from Hong Kong, let me just point something out. I assume english is not your first language and I notice that you made a grammer mistake that a lot of Chinese people make.
Fortunately for us we've a lot of brave people
I know contractions think must think like the greatest thing in the world, but in this case, you want to say "we have", not "we've". I'm not sure what the specific rule is about that, but the way you wrote it is wrong. All I can say is that using a contraction in that case just dosn't sound right. You should try to read a lot of english books to help you understand the subtleties of the english language. Just for reference "We're really proud of them" on the last line is ok.
they'll just get them off kazaa. Maybe the artists should focus less on forcing people to buy their entire album and more on producing albums that people want to buy.
I never knew it was that hard to cut a watermelon into quarters and put it on a plate.
Umm, hello, an average watermelon weighs 20 pounds. Cutting it up isn't the problem, moving it around is.
And do you really want to eat 4 pounds of watermelon at a sitting?
When do they start sending me speeding tickets because I travelled too many miles in too short a time??
If you travelled too many miles in too short a time then you have been speeding so shouldn't you get a ticket? A GPS tracking system makes it easy to get caught for speeding but you're still breaking the law so what are you complaining about?
a child could easily see something really traumatic
I was probably 10 years old the first time I saw the goatse guy, and I probably turned out ok.
In Japan, Microsoft has a fair bit of prestige
I don't know about that, they still use the bill borg icon

But how many LOCs is it?
THAT was disturbing. Where the hell did you find that?
It just shows once again that they're interested soley in profit via tight control of a market...
Can you blame them? As a corporation what would share holders say if they were not interested in profit or having control of the market.
The program is given away by Microsoft for free, I think they should be allowed to do whatever they want with it.

I liked that one.

Currently I'm unemployed by choice.
Right, right, I bet you also don't have a girlfriend by choice.

I made that up.
Yet your moderation score keeps rising, go slashdot!

Gives out a much larger portion of the profits, and not just to pad his own wallet.
:)
That's true, but giving out 100% of $0.00 isn't exactly the same thing
here.
This will pretty much guarantee that the US telemarketing industry will be outsourced overseas.
I think that the fact that long distance calls cost a lot of money would prevent this from happening.
I think I'll share a few more albums to help out the poor Americans, I don't think the RIAA is going to launch any international lawsuits.
