I don't care how I am moderated since it is a fact that Apple is a niche productr, esp with less than 5% market share. Please take off those pink colored Apple glasses and look around.
Apple is totally insignificant when it comes to PC's and OS. I really don't care if small niche systems like Apple is not too secure. It will never gain much market share over what it has today anyway.
By going along with China's policy, you accept that what the Chinese government does. is the correct thing.
By staying away frm China, you close off a market of 1.2 billion people, not exactly a move that is going to win many points with the shareholders.
But, if you want to change the way China operates and not beeing seen as a supporter of China and it's oppressive politics, you have to stay away and then work towards change in the Chinese system. But then again, Google is an American company and they will go to hell and back for a dollar and they don't care about anything else. And as such, google is just continuing the traditiion from USA. The tradition is to say one thing and do something else.
Is there a company in USA that has some moral fibre left?
Sorry to say that if you believe in gods, santa claus, tooth fairies etc, you are not well educated. Logic and critical thinking is proably not part of your education.
I want the Beaujolais Nouveau to taste like Beaujolais Nouveau and not like a 40+year old wine. That is why we have Beaujolais Nouveau parties every year in the thursday the wine is released.
That's all fine and dandy as long as you know what goes on on a PC. 99.9% of all PC users do not. Why? They don't care, have no interest etc and that is how it should be. Why should a regular user have to have a Masters in computing in order to use it?
It's like me and cars. I can fill gas and wiper fluid and a couple of other things, but that is all. I have no interest in what goes on under the hood, to me a car is a transportation vechilel, nothing more, nothing less. It's the same with PC's for the wast majority of users.
I already have 16GB RAM so that is not the problem, but I sometimes (often) need all the memory for testcases I run. Even with a decent AMD64 I can use more CPU, so I really don't need all this crap that has zero value to ME. Ofcourse, my crap may be your gold, but damn it man... LOL
As an avid TV user I see nothing in TiVo that would mean anything to me personally. I have an HD-DVR from Brighthouse and the only issue is that i'd love to record more than 2 shows at once while watching another channel. This is not possible, you can record 2 channels at the same time, but if you want to watch Tv at the same time, it has to be one of the channels you are recording or a previous recording. Not good enough!
And I think I'm like 99% of all TV viewers, I couldn't care less if I can not attach to a network at home or can not copy the shows to CD/DVD or similar. The movies I want to keep, I prefer to buy a DVD rather than copy the content from a DVR. In most cases, I delete a show as soon as I have watched it. Network? PC? Record to CD/DVD? Couldn't care less. 7.1 ability? Now we're talking important stuff.
I fail at least 2 of them even though i live in the US, I'm not a citizen and there is no way I will give up smoking good herbs. I only drink once in a blue moon, but smoke weed on a regular basis, as i have done for the past 30 years or so. Much less problems with weed. As long as you stick to alcohol, FBI don't mind you beeing stupendously drunk each night, but smoking a joint while watching TV is bad. Go figure. And I will while smoking my devil head bong!
If RIAA don't like the way things are done in Russia, they are free not to sell any of their products in Russia, I mean, nobody is forcing RIAA to sell in Russia. They have the choice to leave and don't sell if they don't like it.
So, basically you are saying that between time 0 and 2^-43 s after the BB, matter simply started to exist, i.e. the matter involved in BB arose from nothing to a finite amount in that timneframe?
I still have quite a few issues with the BB theory, things like extremly high redshifts, 2 cosmic interconnected objects with different redshifts, the Great Attractor, The Great Wall (and other walls), 1 billion lightyear big galaxies can not have formed in the time since BB since they would only have had time to do 2-3 rotations. There is a lot of disconnected information out there that starts to question both the age of the universe and the Big Bang. And can someone explain how colliding galaxies are not a problem for an inflationary universe?
And do they have people on-call 24/7 that has intimate knowledge of the code and can create one-off patches? How much does this service cost per year for MySQL and who delivers and what are their credentials? If I am going to put the life of my busniess on a database, I need to know that I can access that data no matter what happens. It's life or death for a company.
I'm sorry, but i would never bet my business on MySQL.
I read through thre article and it was obvious from the start on that this would be an article that put MySQL on top and surprise surprise Editors choice was : (drumroll) MySQL.
I don't know if I should cry or laugh, but the whole article is so stupid that it's not even worth discussing. It selects MySQL adter comparing a few selected crtierias which makes MySQL look good, but if you look at the comparison chart between the various databases, it should be obvious that MySQL is the least desirable database. Just because it's OSS doesn't make it the best.
How do I get a one-off patch for a bug fix in MySQL at 2am Sunday morning when I need the fix in order to get back into production? And don't tell me to do it myself because that is not how businesses functions. It needs to be a MtSQL supported fix.
I don't hate France, but then again, I have many many years of visits to France whereas the wast majority of France haters have never been outside Shitville, USA. If they have, it's on a daytrip to Backwater, USA. None of them have ever set foot in France nor do they have any idea of all the great things that has come out of France and true, some things didn't turn out that great, but then again, what can really be done for USA anyway?
Most hated country? In USA maybe, but in other places around the world, USA takes the top spot.
I agree with you. Here is what I do:
- I shop at let's say Winn-Dixie, I don't have a shopping card, but want the discount.
- I have friends or co-workers who do have the card.
- At the register: "I've forgotten my card at home, my phone # is (xxx)-yyy-zzzz (friend or co-worker with card's phone #)
- -Discount and no tracking or annoying spam in my mail-box.
Flamebait? LOL

Depends...

What I want to know from /. editors is why they sendt off at least 6 questions related to security?
/.
Of 10 questions 60% was about the same topic, that is a high number of 'dupes", even for

Exactly!

More bloat I have no use for, eats memory and CPU and feeds you stupid ads.

EVDO? CDMA? GSM? HSDPA? mbps? kbps?
I need a speech therapist!
Clap, clap, clap!
That was brilliant! Pure gold! I've seldom met an evangelical standup-comedian of your calibre! Great Stuff! Where do you perform?
NO!
And people wonder why there are so many openings?
I fail at least 2 of them even though i live in the US, I'm not a citizen and there is no way I will give up smoking good herbs. I don't pick them up, I lay them down... Geezzz... No wonder you are not getting laid!
Tall? Wide? Geeezzz.... So many choices.... I think I'll drink straight from the bottle...
